First stay: Staying for a few nights. First night staying in Louisiana and despite the $20/night parking, the service that Janet the bartender is providing is making up for the inconvenience . Great drinks and friendly service this is so good you don't need to travel out. However the bar is walking distance from a lot of good food opions and is clearly a different level of hotel from others in the area and representative of the Tapestry collection of Hilton. Try the bacon wrapped Gator bites with a Sazerac. Oh did I mention that everything in the kitchen is gluten free? I travel all over the US and this hotel ranks higher than 95% of what I have stayed at (all Hilton brands).
Update: Night 2 I had the GF calamari fries and made me feel like I was eating wheat again without celiac. Again, did you know that the kitchen is completely Gluten Free? Dinner alone with Janet serving is all you need at the end of the day.
Hotel Monroe is a diamond in the rough.
Update Oct 8th: This is my fourth stay in 3 months at the Hotel Monroe and the gloss is starting to wear. The site is now under new management and it's not looking promising.
By my fourth stay I have now stayed in 8 different rooms. The AC unit controls are pointless. Two rooms didn't have any heat, while 3 rooms didn't have the ability to turn off the fan which blasted the AC all night. The general maintenance of the rooms (doors not closing rights, toilet seats falling off, drains clogged) isn't what one should expect from a Tapestry tier of Hilton or for the price for hotels in this region.
My work colleagues and I chose this place because of how friendly and genuinely happy/excited the personnel were at this hotel. Now, much of the wait staff have left. If they ever lose their chef this place no longer justifies the price.
Hopefully the owner looks at reviews.
Update October 20th: THEY LOST THEIR CHEF! Docking another star.
The morning wait staff is friendly and helpful even if the food is lacking. Frankly they are the last asset to this place. The bartenders are friendly but can't mix a balanced drink.
If you stay here you now have to look elsewhere for drinks and food. I suggest Parish around the corner (several former employees now work there and the food and service show it).
My room has either cold water or burning hot in the shower. The blinds are broken and won't close, but this is the first room I've stayed in that actually has a fully functional AC unit.

Read moreWe visited the Monroe Star Bar last night, excited to finally check out the space after seeing it advertised as a new upscale lounge in the area. Unfortunately, our experience left a lot to be desired.
We arrived at 9:40 PM, not realizing they close at 10 on weekdays (we had previously heard 11 PM). We were still hopeful to enjoy the atmosphere and grab a quick drink. However, what should’ve been a warm welcome turned into an uncomfortable experience.
A woman who appeared to be the manager (Jessica) came outside with a noticeably cold and uninviting attitude. Rather than greeting us kindly, she immediately stated that they had already called last call and that we could only order one drink. Once we agreed, she repeated the closing time in a sharp tone and told us we’d need to order and close out immediately.
We decided not to go through with ordering since we didn’t want to inconvenience the bartender with five separate drink orders so close to closing. We politely asked if we could at least take a quick look around the space, and the bartender kindly said yes. As we walked through and took a few pictures, Jessica returned around 9:50 PM and abruptly told us to "wrap it up," even as we were clearly preparing to leave. She began picking up the very cushions from the couch we were sitting on—despite there being several others she could’ve started with that weren’t occupied. It felt rushed and unnecessarily passive-aggressive, especially since it wasn’t yet closing time.
To be honest, we were already hesitant to visit due to several TikTok videos and reviews mentioning the venue not being particularly welcoming to people of color. Sadly, this encounter only reinforced those concerns. A simple smile and respectful communication would’ve made all the difference.
We still want to believe in the potential of Monroe Star Bar, and we’re willing to give it another try in the future. But we hope management reflects on how their approach to guests—especially new ones—can make or break...
