I have used this resort several times in the past mostly as a group of 4 - 8 golfers using it as our 1st stop of 2 stops on the way to Myrtle Beach. I'm not fussy when it comes to lodging as long as the place is clean, I only need the room as a place to sleep, shower and change. However, I do enjoy the golf course (Lakeview) which is the only reason for coming here. My girlfriend and I decided to go on a golfing road trip to South Carolina starting on July 16th and returning home on the 24th so I booked us a room at this resort in early May for the nights of July 16th (our 1st stop on the way down) and July 23rd (our last night on the way home). After a 6 hr. drive from Toronto, we arrived about 10:30am. We were quite surprised that our room was available at this time. Our room was on the 3rd floor which meant carrying our bags, coolers etc. up 3 flights of stairs as this was easier than the trek from the 1 elevator. We golfed at 12:30, had a small dinner at Legends (not great), a few drinks and retired for the evening. The next morning we went for breakfast at 6:30 and paid $12.50 for a hot breakfast buffet that was cafeteria food at best. Garbage. Before leaving we re-confirmed our booking for the 23rd. then hit the road for our next leg of the journey. We were suppose to depart South Carolina for our return trip on Tues. July 22nd, but as luck would have it, it was suppose to rain all day Monday so we decided to depart a day early. This meant arriving at Lakeview on the 22nd instead of the 23rd so we had every intention of staying there for 2 nights. Unfortunately, the resort was booked solid for the 22nd so we could not stay there that night. We tried a nearby Holiday Inn Express and a Super 8 and they were both at capacity. We then found a Springhill Suites (Marriott) about 10 mins away that had 2 rooms still available. We booked a room there but were told it would not be ready til about 4pm. This was fine as we had a tee-time booked at Lakeview for 12:40 so would probably not be back until 5pm. or so. After a 5+ hour round (a single playing 2 balls in front of us who refused to join a 3some in front of him and a 4some about 4 groups in front of us who were 3 holes behind) and not a course attendant to be found. Once finished we went to Legends for a drink or 2 and decided we were going to leave for home on Wednesday morning as Thurs. was calling for heavy rain and we did not want to drive 6 hrs. in heavy rain When we went to the front desk to cancel our reservation, we were told that they had a 48 hr. cancellation policy and that our payment was 100% non-refundable. This to me was absurd. For the sake of $125, and I know they would have had no problem re-booking our room, they have probably lost our golf group (probably $800 - $1000 in revenue) this October and many other Octobers to come. What kind of Customer Service is that? I consider myself a repeat loyal customer but it means absolutely nothing!! I will never return to this resort for this reason and will urge my golf group to do the same. I will be calling management at Lakeview later today to voice my displeasure. The one positive that did come from this disservice was the fact that we found an absolutely fabulous facility in Springhill Suites. The room was 10 times nicer than Lakeview and the free breakfast in the morning was much nicer than the breakfast we paid $12.50 for at Lakeview. I will continue to go there (Springhill Suites) to stay and just golf (reluctantly) at Lakeview but will not spend a nickel more on...

I got excited to see a "Trademark by Wyndham" (allegedly one of their best) property at a really amazing price, so we took a chance. What a mistake. As a Diamond Wyndham Rewards Member, I am allowed early check-in, but when I arrived at 2pm I was scolded by the manager and told to wait in the bar, which required me to walk through an open construction area. Arriving at the bar, I had to teach the bartender how to make an Old Fashioned, and watched as she was cleaning out her coolers and disposing of expired beer. She also comped a beer to another patron to get him to taste it, only to find it was skunked. After getting back to check in, I waited for fifteen more minutes as the manager argued with her staff about rooms that were open or not, and when it was finally my turn, I was told the pool, hot tub, and wi-fi were all officially closed but that I could give the pool a try since I was a responsible adult. She also said we'd have to drive around the back to access our room due to several stairs inhibiting my wife who has mobility issues. (The website says all these amenities were available, and that the property is handicap accessible.) I did give a look at the pool area. The lock on the pool room was busted off, and the water was cloudy. The hot tub (again an advertised amenity) was empty and had garbage in it. But the kicker was upon entering my room, we almost immediately saw the telltale signs of bedbugs. I saw them on the curtain first, and a quick look at the mattress saw the same traces. (If you haven't seen bed bug tracks before, I've included the curtain photo, and you can see the telltale brown dots of bed bug "fecal matter" which is basically the parts of human blood they don't digest. Yep, it's nasty. And nope, they didn't even bother clean it. These were white curtains, you'd think housekeeping would at least try to bleach them or something, but they just left it there.) So, that was the last straw, and we opted to go somewhere else, only to find that the manager was on break and the covering attendant didn't know how to cancel a guest. (I demanded check out paperwork.) So I had to wait a half hour for the manager to come back, only to be told the printer somehow miraculously now wasn't working. But she did give me a verification number and promised I'd get an emailed confirmation which never came. I did bring up in the conversation that I was also unhappy they were advertising amenities that did not work, to learn the hot tub especially hadn't worked in years. (But... again, it's still advertised on their website!) I was also told that despite being a part of the Trademark by Wyndham brand, they really have no idea what the Wyndham Rewards program actually is and so didn't know what it meant when check-in screen was telling them I was a diamond member. (FYI: It's their top tier Rewards customer, meaning I spend a lot of time in Wyndham hotels, so know a flea trap when I see it.) So, I'll be doing the dance with my credit card company to ensure I get my refund but doing so from an "upgraded" and completely bug-free room at the...
Read moreThis was the worst “motel” (def. Not a hotel and most def not a resort) I’ve ever endured- yes endured. The best thing was the staff- they actually seemed to care. They checked me in early— which started out with them trying to give me the wrong room- a double, instead of the “deluxe king” I had prepaid for through Airbnb. The double was half the price- remember that.|My room was about as far away from lobby as you could get- causing me to lug my bags up and down hallways that were dark, dilapidated, smoke filled, and falling apart. An ice machine was pouring out water… it was creepy and scary. I got to my room. Right across from my room was a storage unit filled with old furniture and Lord knows what else— easily could have been infested…|Most of the lights in my room did not work. The room smelled awful-musty, dank, it was dark, dirty, and awful. No phone, no fridge…… I left to meet a friend who convinced me to stick it out and that I was just being a princess. Ok.||I came back that evening.. freaked out because I’m walking alone in these dark corridors with no security..I felt very scared and unsafe. I got to my room and locked it and settled for the night… I woke up 4 hours later— decided to take a shower. Bathroom was definitely run down, but seemed “ok.” I get in shower… shampoo in hair and hear popping sound… jump back and rust comes pouring out on me. Luckily had several large water bottles— I rinsed off, turned on sink— and sure enough— rust starts pouring out. That’s it… as I grab my stuff I see a huge spider. I’m trying to figure out how to kill it without it jumping at me… kill spider— throw my stuff together, grab everything and go to front desk. It’s not even 7am— I say I want my money back- I’m outta here- they offer to change room but only have double— I said is it updated and closer to front? I’m told yes. I asked if I get discount since my “deluxe” room was almost double the price- I’m told they can’t do anything about that. I had already left several messages with Airbnb telling them the problems— I go to new room—it was definitely newer— all the lights worked (bonus!) but still old and outdated- the chair at the desk had a huge rip— so I didn’t use it… ||This “hotel” is atrocious. I cannot recommend you stay away enough. It is a health and safety issue. The elevator is so old— I was sure it was going to get stuck (it didn’t) the place is a wreck. The area is great- they need to tear down these buildings and build a proper resort… but in the meantime, should begin by showing what these rooms really look like- ||I usually take reviews with a grain of salt— someone is always complaining… but believe me— I would not want my worst enemy to stay here. I feel so bad for the staff— I’m sure they hear these complaints every day. ||As for resolution— I did get word that they were going up refund me 120.., which I guess is something.., but in the grand scheme of things— it’s a pittance compared to what I endured. Stay away. You will...
