Almost Heaven Desserts & Coffee (but like, only almost) 📍Cheat Landing, Morgantown, WV ✨Aesthetic: 10/10 🥧 Dessert game: emotionally unstable
Okay besties, buckle up. This is the story of how my daughter’s 21st birthday dessert plan derailed faster than my New Year’s resolutions.
So the squad (me, wife, daughters) links up in Morgantown to celebrate the Big 2-1 with some Thai food and light consumerism at Ulta and Old Navy. Mood: festive. Dessert vibes: HIGH. I volunteered as tribute to grab treats while they shopped. Original plan? Apple Annie’s. I pull up, heart full, only to find it’s closed on Sundays. Like, what is this? Chick-fil-A logic? Close on Mondays, be normal.
Plan B: Almost Heaven Desserts—close by, cute, and vibey. I roll up and it’s giving modern farmhouse café-core. Cozy seats, cute decor, free WiFi, and two gender-neutral bathrooms fully stocked with diapers. Like, a shocking number of diapers. Okay then.
☕️ Atmosphere: • Honestly, 10/10 for interior vibes. • The barista was deep in their own world, which was fine. Felt like I was in a slow-paced Paris café, minus the croissants and plus a dessert case that stared into my soul.
🥧 The Order:
I start snapping pics of the dessert case and drop them in the family group chat. Votes come in: • Coconut Cream Pie — the Beyoncé of the bunch. Silky, creamy, and the crust had me humming. • Raspberry Cheesecake — elite choice by the Mrs., raspberry + chocolate = soulmate energy. • Peanut Butter Pie — the birthday girl’s only request. And here’s where things went left.
There’s a full uncut PB pie in the case. Like, pristine. Glowing under the lights. But when I ask for two slices, the barista hits me with the, “Sorry, we don’t slice into full pies that’s the bakers job.” (I’m paraphrasing she was NOT rude, no CAP.)
I’m sorry, what? It’s dessert, not a Fabergé egg. You’d rather let the PB pie sleep in the fridge than make a 21-year-old’s birthday? Brutal.
I offer alternatives. Another coconut cream maybe? Nope. Also a full pie. Not for slicing. Vibes? Off.
Birthday girl ends up with Reese’s Cheesecake which, plot twist, tastes like neither chocolate nor PB. It was giving dry crumble-core. I chose the Cookie Butter Cheesecake which looked cute but tasted like it had dreams and no ambition. Sad.
Only the M&M cookie came through — it slapped and was promptly devoured.
💸 Price Check:
$5.95 per dessert slice. Not bad, honestly. Big portions. Made fresh. But freshness ≠ flavor, apparently.
Final Tea:
If you’re in the Cheat Lake area and want a solid spot to sip coffee, scroll your phone, pretend you’re studying, or just vibe — this place is a yes. But if you’re out here with a craving for PB pie or birthday-level expectations? Proceed with caution.
And to the staff: maybe slice the pie next time. The emotional damage was real. 😩🫠
TL;DR: Come for the cookie. Stay for the aesthetic. Just don’t count on the pie.

Read moreUpdate on 1/21/22: My wife and I decided to come back to this location... Against our better judgement. Hindsight is 20/20. This place is still struggling. We steered clear of specialty coffees due to our experience last time. My food was good and came out on time. My wife's, however, wasn't as timely or correct. She then waited over 15 minutes for them to correct it. Staff complained about order tickets not printing but didn't do anything to fix it or even write down orders. Everyone around us was getting the wrong food or drink. They were out of basic ingredients for food but didn't advise people when they ordered. Only after waiting some time did they inform the customers of the lack of ingredients and then made them wait some more. Overall, it took at least 35-40 minutes to get our two coffees and the correct food. At least the shop was cleaner than last time, I guess...
Original: This location is quite disappointing. Staff is rude and more occupied with their phones than actual work. I needed a splash of milk for my coffee, and if I wouldn't have spoken up at the register where 3 of the girls were standing, they would have never noticed me or my wife. Speciality coffees are over saturated with syrup and borderline unpalatable. The location is covered with gnats and flies around the cash register area. The bottle of half and half was warm and sat next the the sugars and trash can, for God knows how long. Staff is unfriendly and unaware of customers when they are in the shop. I love the original location but this locations brings down the great name AHD has made for themselves...
Read moreManagement really needs to read these constructive reviews and take them seriously as there are actionable changes to be made that can keep paying customers coming back. We’ve enjoyed the food and drinks from the Bridgeport location and were excited for the Morgantown location to open up. After giving it several tries, it’s really hard to say I’ll be back. The online order ahead options don’t match up with the in store options (items that come in the salad) so I’ve had no choice but to go in which inevitably leads to a long wait time because the service is not fast. On my most recent visit, my drinks and a food item were completely forgotten about and once I reminded them, it was still another 15 minutes for two drinks. The ice in the dirty iced chai latte immediately melted because they actually steeped the tea to order and then poured it over ice? I would have changed my order if I knew it would turn into a lukewarm tea, coffee and milk mixture. Spa Roma down the street does chai lattes right if you aren’t also looking for food. The avocado toast was not actually toasted, just mushy bread. There seems to be several people working but I observed a handful of customers walk in and stand in line at the register for several minutes before being helped. The inside of the cafe is quite a welcoming setting and when the food and drinks are done right they are tasty and have kept me coming back. The opportunities I see are for consistency (do what you say and offer what you advertise) and training/efficiency enhancements with staff. I hope to see this...
