My wife and I recently spent a Saturday night at the Doubletree Hotel in Mundelein, IL. We booked the room as part of a hotel block for a wedding that we were attending, so I can’t really comment on the price.||||The hotel is located on a fairly busy highway with various commercial businesses, including some fast casual restaurants, nearby. ||||The hotel is quite large and has almost 200 rooms. I was told that it was built in the 60’s, but it obviously has had a recent remodel with a Craftsman/Frank Lloyd Wright vibe. The lobby was sort of sparse, but did have some Stickley-style chairs for lounging.||||Parking and wi-fi is free.||||There several meeting rooms and a business center, which was temporarily closed. A fitness center and indoor pool are also off the lobby. (We didn’t use any of these amenities.)||||Breakfast was not included in the room rate, but on-site dining is offered at the Karma Pub.||||Check-in was courteous and efficient. As is apparently customary at Doubletrees, we were given warmed chocolate chip cookies when we registered. ||||We were assigned room 112 on the first floor, which faced a quiet courtyard. There was a second door to access a dedicated outdoor patio, but there was no furniture outside. (See pic) Maybe it was already. stored for the season? ||||The room was clean and decorated with earth tones in the Craftsman style. All the furniture had a Mission-style to it. A flat screen TV was on a tall two-door cabinet. (There were three small drawers in the cabinet, a dorm-sized refrigerator and a coffee brewer with fixings.). Other furniture included a wide desk with office chair, an upholstered bench along the courtyard window, and a Stickley knock-off lounge chair/ottoman.||||A fairly small closet contained an iron/ironing board and wall safe.||||The king-size bed had five pillows. The bed was a little soft, but comfortable. It was flanked by mis-matched nightstands with lamps. There was a digital clock on one. Two power cubes each with four USB ports were also in the room. || The bathroom was average-sized. The vanity had lots of counter space. The shower was generously sized. There was a hair dryer, wall-mounted toiletries (hand soap, hair/body wash, and body lotion) by Crabtree & Evelyn. Shower pressure and water temperature were fine. ||||Overall, we were very pleased with our stay and would recommend it if you are looking for lodging in the Mundelein/Libertyville area.||||For more specific details and pictures, visit the...
Read moreWhy am I bring charged Hilton prices for a room that has a phone straight out of the 90s and no microwave. Breakfast is all carbs and sugar with no other option. (So my $10-$12/night food and beverage credit is not being given bc they are giving away free breakfast bags that I will not utilize) The room is clean, but very out dated. I'm in a pretty high level of shock.
Update: The TV has a terrible display. Also, No Bravo TV channel
I am a Diamond member and they refused to upgrade me. APPARENTLY 190 nights in 14 months means nothing to this circa 1981 hotel.
In response to the hotel reply: Upgrades are available for Government Rates, for every other hotel I stay at. And I did not eat breakfast on 1/31/22 and was not offered a food and beverage credit.
Hotel is terribly out of date. I simply wanted a King Room with a pull out couch and the usual amenities (ie Microwave) and a decent offering for food and beverage. The Queen room was thr SAME RATE as the room I booked. It certainly was not an upgrade. The front desk clerk Dan tried to put me in a King Suite to accommodate the standard of room that other Hiltons offer. Yet the one showing available when I booked, he said. was taken out of service. So he put us in the Queen Room. Which was NOT.an upgrade. Oddly. it remained available the next day. When I discovered I couldn't heat up my food, I again requested Dan put me in the original upgrade that he had mentioned. He CHECKED FIRST and said he had one available that we could move to on 1/30. I made it clear I had to work and would move at the end of the day. When we got back and tried to move, I was told it would be an additional fee. So the hotel brought some cheap little end table and a microwave to my room. It was at that time, I decided that this property was not Hilton brand and certainly does not provide the service that I have grown to expect. I do understand this brand, as I have stayed 190 nights since October 2020.
Food and beverage: At check in, there was no food and beverage credit for Diamond members because of the free Breakfast. The brown bag breakfast was seemingly for a small child full of carb-packed junk food including an apple sauce cup and offered protein. So I did not partake on day 2 of my stay. The Manager replies to my google review stating there IS a credit for Diamond members if we do not eat breakfast. Well, I did NOT eat breakfast on 1/31/22. This hotel is grossly outdated. It was empty, yet they had no room to upgrade a...
Read moreThe interior has a pristinely clean older royal traditional wooden atmosphere, the outside is a little lack luster but makes up for it with the courtyard surrounding the indoor glass enclosed 9 foot deep pool. The breakfast was disappointing, the pancakes were from frozen and pre toasted dry and the eggs and meats were bland of flavor. I wouldnt reccomend anyone spend $15 on their food when you can go out for much better.
Personal experience - I had booked with the family fun package. Which at that time included breakfest up to 4 guests and premium in room wifi. When I called for the premium code, I was actually still given the standard free complimentary wifi which was not ideal for my uses. Then when I called to get the premo code I paid for, I was already locked in by their network and the landing page to get premo access would not show until their cache reset. A lil peeved but that didnt ruin my overall experience. In the morning though, after attending their breakfest, I received a food bill. I simply wrote that it was paid with the room package, and left my room number and last name for them to verify. She quickly came back and argued that I did not get free breakfest with being a rewards member. I tried to tell her It was because of the package I paid extra for. She then rudely said that I cannot get things waivered for free because I complain. I wasn't asking for free breakfest, but stating i already paid in advance. I tried to sort the bill up front, was not charged double for the breakfest, but was double charged for the premo internet I never got to use. We just needed to pack and leave so I could take a breather. I called today and spoke to Allen. He is so wonderful, he knew exactly the package I was speaking of, he was informed on what benefits were suppose to be included, and was completely sympathetic to my situation. The double charges were removed and the billing issues were resolved reasonably. Allen was genuine and I appreciate their help.
Overall, I was not impressed, and not trying to factor person feelings about how I was treated and getting frustrated, but I would say it was about a 2.5...
