I chose the Candlelight based on the reviews that people had left which In my opinion are not a true reflection of the property based on my experience. I always try to be absolutely balanced and genuine with my reviews and I would summarise the property as being very tired and in need of significant investment to justify the prices being charged. I started to become concerned about the booking I had made with Candlelight when prior to our trip I messaged the property via Booking.com and also via direct email requesting advice and information on wineries to visit and received no reply to any of my messages. When we arrived at the property I rang the doorbell several times and nobody answered. I managed to look through the window into the kitchen and could see people moving about and despite ringing the doorbell again nobody responded. In the end I had to knock on the kitchen window to attract the attention of a member of staff. It was interesting to note that we witnessed other guests arriving who had the exact same problem. It is a Ring doorbell which can be linked to a mobile phone so there is no excuse for this experience after a very long journey. This is a managed property and the owners are absent. At check in we received basic information about the common areas of the property but nothing about the room itself. The room was a huge disappointment. A lot of the reviews refer to the property as olde world but in truth you can create an old fashioned feeling with newer fixtures. Our room was plain tired. The carpet in the bedroom was so old the pattern had worn off in the main walking areas. It did not look clean and in my opinion should have been replaced years ago. The room also had an odour to it that was unpleasant. There was an unnecessary huge bathtub in the rooms which took up so much space leaving no room for suitcases etc. The jets in the bath did not appear clean to me and it was similar in the very small shower in the bathroom. The internet in the bedrooms was constantly disconnecting and it was a very poor. A previous guest must have disconnected the cable from the back of the Television which meant that it did not work until I resolved the issue myself so it clearly had not been checked before our arrival. The breakfast was really good if you like eggs but if you do not eat eggs you will struggle. The bedding was of good quality and the bed was comfortable. The grounds of the property are really nice. The property is in an area surrounded by more modest homes and a car is required to get into town. Having now visited the area I would not choose to stay in Napa next time and would look at St Helena or Yountville which are much nicer and prettier towns. I am not sure where these 5 star reviewers have been staying but i guarantee you they cannot be used to a proper 5 star...
Read moreWe stayed here for 3 nights with friends and came so close to cancelling ahead of time. The inn had a real problem with responsiveness, which was surprising based on some of the reviews. Emails took at least one reminder to get answered. We were asked to complete a survey of our interests during our stay. Absolutely nothing came of it…time fully wasted. No one reached out to us to do any planning. On my second request for help with restaurant recs I received them, with an offer to reach back out to me once reservations were available at one. That never happened, so I made it myself. I received a text with a phone number to text them with any questions. I had a couple. No answers for 10+ hours or more with a second or 3rd required and in one case a phone call. We had just left a similarly priced inn with nicer accommodations where they could not do enough for guests. This 10-room inn did little to nothing ahead to make guests feel like this would be a personalized experience. We asked for 90 minute early check in and told we’d have to pay a fee, which we did, though other guests showed up simultaneously and seemed to just check in with no mention of this. I made the most basic request ahead to have our “one glass per person on arrival” of wine delivered at a certain time to our patio (a one minute walk from reception) in order to coordinate a birthday surprise, and was told no, wine was only given directly to the guest at check in, but received an unsolicited list of overpriced special occasion add-ons I could request instead. ||Once we arrived, the 3 separate staff members we encountered were lovely and helpful. They put a little sign in our room wishing my husband a happy birthday. They worked very hard and might need back up if short-staffing is the reason for the very poor pre-arrival experience. Our room was spacious and clean, but dated. The gothic woodwork gave it a creepy feel. We received housekeeping only on one of our 2 days, though we were out of the room from 9-3 on the first, with no DND sign on the door. ||The common areas are inviting, with a roaring fire in the fireplace, daily fresh baked treats in the living room, and available cheese plates in the communal fridge. Breakfasts were ample, but didn’t wow us. The backyard pool and landscaping are beautiful. They are a big selling point. The pool deck needs more regular cleaning (bird excrement, etc.). Overall, it was a fine stay, with the best part being the innkeeping staff once on-site. I do not see us returning when back in Napa. I think they can make some...
Read moreOur stay at Candelight Inn is hard to put into words. From the moment we arrived to the time we left it was exceptional and memorable. Sam, Lori, Dan, and the rest of the staff always went the extra mile in making sure our stay was nothing less than stellar. I booked this as a surprise trip for my wife and I's 10 year anniversary and was ecstatic that I chose here. We stayed in the cottage and would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Every detail both big and small seemed to be well thought out and everything flowed from the planning stages of our stay through our time there. The grounds were stunning, the pool was relaxing, and the cottage was our own personal sanctuary. The moment we arrived, Dan offered us fresh cookies he had just literally pulled out of the oven while showing us around the Inn, the grounds, and to our cottage. I had read in some reviews that people thought there was areas or decor that needed updating in the cottage, and my wife and I couldn't disagree more. Although it is not our decorating style, we felt the cottage was perfect and appreciated the character it had. It is not this sterile, vanilla look that everywhere you stay at seems nowadays, so we truly enjoyed the change of pace that it provided. Everything was clean, fresh, inviting, and relaxing. The breakfast was amazing, the bed was a dream, and everything we could ever want or need was provided with more than enough space. And, nothing beats the privacy and the views from the room and especially the patio! Not only was our fridge stocked with delicious goodies and beverages, we also had access to the main house for anything we needed replenished. We also spent time together relaxing out by the pool and in the lush lawn beside it while visiting, reading, and just lounging. We also loved the location of Inn as it was just a short 5 minute drive to almost every dining, shopping, destination we experienced. Every need, want, or desire was always taken care, and Sam, Lori, Dan, and staff were always around in passing asking if there was anything they could do to make our stay better. Thank you again for making our 10 year anniversary an amazing memory, and hope to...
