Lucky — Local services in Napa

I normally will ONLY do positive reviews and abstain from the negative trap, but I have to make an exception in this case. This is 100% my opinion based upon my experience(s) at this store.

I have to give them 1 star to do the review--they don't allow zero or negative stars. Horrible store. Prices are just stupid at this point, and they go up more frequently than every week--particularly since the new ownership group took over, not that they were much better prior. These increases are way beyond the "covid" or "supply chain" excuse that has become so popular--this is about elevating profits post-purchase. The service is SLOW, understaffed 100% of the time, and most of their employees either don't want to be there or are miserable an buying time until they can retire and get out. Good luck getting a paper bag--it's plastic all the way, to save money--but the employees have been coached to lie about availability, fact is, they don't order because they cost more than plastic! Stock status is sparse and consistently unreliable. Your best hope is to do their work yourself, but they shut down the self-check out stations early, leaving no choice but to hit those horrible lines, that move slower than traffic on HWY 80 near the bay bridge. After 7 years, I've made my last trip, I'll see how Safeway does. Makes one feel...

Very rude employees... When it comes to customer service they definitely need to remember they are out of grade school and are working for a public establishment and need to act accordingly. Nobody has the right to assume or judge a person's character based on an appearance. Not everyone goes to the store dressed to impress. We all have our bad days and shouldnt have to worry about being accused of doing things because of the way they look especially when all they want to do is get breakfast for an elderly woman they take care of. So basically this store isn't my first or even last choice to shop at... It falls way behind in the list of preferred stores to go to. I suggest shopping online and having it delivered. Always an easy experience. Always trying to keep the lines down and moving fast. Great selection and helpful staff. It's been my go to grocery store ever since I moved to Napa.

edited post renovation The new renovations completed beginning of 2020 are great. This Lucky now has a self serve salad and hot bar with many options for a quick lunch or dinner. There is seating at the front of the store if you want to eat your food before you leave.Their new frozen entre self serve option seems quite interesting although I have not tried it yet. As always the shelves are neat and faced and full of stock. Lucky prices are higher than other groceries but the shopping experience is above and beyond its competition and, I believe, worth paying a few extra...
