Yuck. The company I work for books all the rooms I stay in when I travel, and generally the Sleep Inn is a safe choice. Had I not gotten in so late, been exhausted and not had the energy to deal with the hassle and the extra time it would have taken to accomplish, I would have placed a call to my company to get a different place for the night as soon as I saw the room. Next time, I’ll find the time, because this was just gross. Pros: The desk clerk who checked me in was friendly and helpful. The sheets & towels appeared clean; bed was decently comfortable. Walking distance to several restaurants (fast food) and a store Cons: Tough entrance/exit to negotiate. The entrance/exit to this hotel is on a very steep slope. Getting into the lot wasn’t awful, but getting out the next morning took a LONG time, as the road the parking lot exits onto is heavily trafficked. The front desk/reception area smelled HEAVILY of a very strong cleaning fluid. I thought when I checked in that perhaps something had just been cleaned, but the smell was just as strong all six times I walked through. Very old property, which hasn’t been updated very recently, and even those updates weren’t great. The corridors were dark, the carpet was funky, the doors were worn. Along the same lines, the room was tiny and very cramped. VERY POORLY CLEANED. My room had several just NASTY places. There was a big dried booger on the lampshade (and not in an out of the way place - it was right at eye level, straight in front of you as you walk toward it). There were an extensive amount of dark reddish-brown “residue” and stains on the curtains, and several more on the wall. The cleaning staff has apparently never heard of dusting. There was dust thicker than three pennies on the cable box, which was hanging down under the TV (so not an “out of sight” thing that got missed). Every hard surface had a layer of grimy dust. The TV remote was so gunky, I’d be surprised if it ever got cleaned. The only places in the room that were decently clean were the bed, and the bathroom fixtures. Well, except the vent in the bathroom, which had so much dust caked around it, it’s only a matter of time before it catches fire and the whole place burns down. Smoky smell. This is billed as a smoke-free property, and when I checked in I had to initial the form agreeing to a $250 charge if I smoked in my room. Every time I left my room, I distinctly smelled cigarette smoke in the corridor. It could just be that the carpet is so old, it still smells from a time when you could smoke on the property. Or it could be that there were guests smoking on the property and they just don’t care. Mostly unfriendly staff. As I mentioned, the desk clerk who checked me in was friendly and cheerful. The woman who checked me out in the morning was surly and rude. As I was trying to maneuver my belongings down the hallway in the morning, the housekeeping staff had parked a cart in the hall with a large laundry bin right next to it, basically blocking the hallway. Two members of the housekeeping staff and the manager all watched me walk toward the obstacle with both hands totally full and none of them even attempted to move it. I ended up having to use my foot to push the laundry cart out of the way so I could edge past. I even put the laundry cart back where it was, but no one apologized...all three just glared at me like I was the rude one.
I didn’t bother checking out the breakfast, as it was served in the area where the strong cleaning fluid smell was, and I was generally too grossed out by the property to want to risk eating anything prepared there. Despite the fairly easy access to local attractions (like Gaylord Opryland and the mall), unless you don’t care at all about cleanliness, stay...
Read moreMy email i am writing this review under is not the name my reservation was made under so i will save you the trouble.
Yes I did stay at the Sleep Inn Nashville North located at 3200 Dickerson Pike, Nashville, TN 37207.
No i am not confused. Nor do i care if you dont believe i stayed there as an attempt to discredit my review. This is for the people I can save from staying here in the future.
Now that ive addressed all of the terrible responses to prior reviews I will leave the blunt bullet pointed truth of our experience (pics attached as well):
Rude staff (especially to women) Not family oriented at all. They will make you feel weird for bringing your little ones. In our experience, they will attempt to convince you to take a room downgrade with no money back for the difference despite having prepaid. The rooms are trashed. Like im talking... people book this room for an hour on the side of the highway at 2 AM bad... (see pics) The AC wouldnt stay on The bathroom lock didnt work The bathroom smelled overwhelmingly musty and had drips on the wall with black growth in the grout under the shower. The floors are so dirty that in the time it took my daughter to walk barefoot from her door to the bed for a diaper change her feet were almost black with grime. The "included breakfeast" was no hot food except a questionable waffle maker and some dry cereal. Attempting to cancel our second stay at this location was super difficult since choice hotels doesnt often reimburse or transfer prepaid bookings to another one of their locations however our case was bad enough that they made an exception and could only say sorry so many times.
We stay at Sleep Inns often. This is simply the most laughable, disgusting, and easily forgotten one among them in our travels so far. I speak at national travel agent conferences on occasion and frequently book my clients in Nashville.
This year my findings for this location will certainly make for an interesting topic of discussion amongst my peers, and at the very least i can save my clients from ever going here again.
Do better. Because when people like me stay here the ripple effect costs your location a heck of a lot more then a one night fare. Families deserve safety. Not possible mold headaches, tactless staff, and...
Read moreI am utterly disappointed at our recent stay at Sleep Inn. We reserved our room (Single King size) 5 days prior to our stay, but we were told that there were no more king rooms available when we arrived. The desk clerk was very new at her job and had no idea what to do. She literally spent 30 minutes making phone calls to figure out what was causing the problem (which we couldn't care less about) and did not help at all in actually finding a way to remedy the situation. She also told us that we weren't the only people with this problem - there were 3 other reservations that haven't arrived yet that are in the same situation! Apparently, Choice Hotels has a practice of overbooking their rooms in the hope that you'll just bend over and take whatever scraps are left.
She asked if we would accept a double room, to which we refused. We told her that we would accept a King Size room in another hotel as long as it was closer to downtown Nashville. Somehow, after much waiting and more phone calls, a king size room "magically" opened up. However, to our disappointment, the door to this room would not lock from the outside - therefore, we could not leave any of our possessions in the room while we went out for the night. This was also unacceptable. The room was also missing its chest-of-drawers, and the bed was a fold-down. The mattress was extremely hard. The room itself was clean, and everything else about it was acceptable. We ultimately had no other choice but to take this room and deal with the fact that it could not be locked from the outside.
I will never ever book a room with Choice Hotels again without confirming that the actual room that we reserve is literally ready and waiting for us before we get there. Choice Hotels can also learn a LOT about proper customer service and training their desk clerks how to handle situations like this. Maybe most people will just suck it up and accept less than what they paid for - but this is an unacceptable practice and will only create unhappy guests and a bad reputation. Shame on you,...
