So here was my experience...
You leave immediately because your wife and kids are panicking while concerned for their safety due to intoxicated young adults in the parking lot yelling, the air conditioner barely working, the lack of included breakfast (as advertised), and human hair in the bedroom. You go to a hotel down the street because you've been driving for 12 hours and need a place to stay, then pay 4x what you could afford and don't have a reservation. You contact the front desk night man and politely tell him what happened. He accuses you of failing to come to the front desk and says you will be charged for the first day. He then denies what happened even happened even though he wasn't in the parking lot. You're confused, so you call out to the Corporate Office and explain the situation - they say you have to reach out to the manager at the Hotel to get a reconciliation and a credit. They apologize for the experience and insist under these circumstances a credit should be issued. You finally get ahold of the manager, he repeats what the night person said to you. In essence, it doesn't matter if you and your family didn't feel safe. You had to come to the front office and keep your family in danger so you could cancel your room. You're even more confused, you call the corporate office again and explain the situation. They say they are not authorized to credit the amount charged, they can only give it back to you in hotel points. You ask to speak to their supervisor... who also tells you their entire department can only issue points, not an actual credit. You ask if there is anyone else you can speak with - they say no. There is no one. Not one human being who can issue an $88.03 credit for a family forced to potentially be in harms way in their entire organization. In shock, you call the credit card company and ask them if you have any options. All you can do is file a dispute - which I'm not sure if I'm going to - because who knows if Choice Hotel's lawyers have closed that hole as well? You go online to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau only to find out Choice Hotels is not part of the BBB, so there is no 3rd party route to file a formal complaint to their corporate offices.
The only choice left to you is to take their points or file a report to the FTC for Fraud. They have setup their entire organization to keep your money no matter what happens. It doesn't matter if your family is potentially put in harms way because of a failure of their own security enforcement... to be honest, it doesn't matter what happens at all from what I can tell.
It makes sense why the owners were smug about not giving the refund - they knew how their organization was setup. They knew no matter what route you went, their money would be safely deposited in their bank account and you would be forced to take points instead of getting a refund.
Never in the history of my 40 years on this planet have I experienced this level of customer malpractice... and I don't use those...
Read moreThe only thing ok about this place was the guy who checked me in. He was very professional and had a good vibe about himself! I’ve been here for 15min. 1st I walk in and instantly have to hold my breath because it smells so bad. I asked if I could get a nonsmoking room and was told they don’t have non-smoking rooms. Which I don’t know what I’m going to do because the smell is giving me a migraine. I’ve never been to a place that I’d be sleeping in and been so uncomfortable I chose this place based on ratings and reviews on the Vio website. All lies, unless they just put me in the worst room they have. I wanted a hotel/motel that was clean with clean towels and sheets. Seeing that these towels are used over and over by random strangers. They should be white so that they can be BLEACHED! But I know these towels are not clean because they have stains on them and the towels in the bathroom half of them were on the floor and they are tan/light brown colored towels. For a hotel/motel this is unacceptable. The bed smells of cigarettes and the sheets on the bed are tan/ light brown as well which means they have not been sanitized properly with BLEACH! All hotels I have ever been to and I’ve been to quite a few 5 star all the way down to 2 star and they all have 1 thing in common fresh bleached WHITE Towels. The cheaper hotels you can smell the bleach, upscale hotels you can’t smell the bleach but you can tell they are sanitary and clean! The room is dark and dreary like a cave. I feel as if they stuck all the black people down here in this little nasty, trashy corner because there’s no way that the pictures and reviews I chose this place based on were in this room. Their are no lamps or pictures on the wall. The bed spread is old like the ones from the early 2000’s their are holes in the bed spread. I don’t even want to bring my things in from out of my car. Econolodge I really thought you guys were going to be better than this. I am VERY DISAPPOINTED!!! You should not be putting your guests in rooms of this...
Read moreI have stayed here unfortunately a couple of times. So where do I start, will first I want to say that I am a member of Choice Hotels and I have been now for about two and a half years I do a lot of traveling and my job pays for overnight stays in hotels. The Econo Lodge is part of the Choice Hotels franchise on their lowest tier. First off my very last experience there I told myself I would not go back and stay there ever again. I booked a reservation for a king bed and the room was a non-smoking room. I am formed the clerk at check-in that I am a choice member on the diamond level which means I am one of the top members of the company at least stain a minimum of 40 nights a year this year I have already accumulated 60 days Plus. So I informed the clerk at checked in to give me one of their best rooms. I was given a room to go to I went in and do as I normally do inspect the room make sure it's clean fully no one previously left in the items, but this room was probably one of the worst rooms I've ever seen D Clerk constantly tells me that the room is a non-smoking room and you'll be charged a smoking fee if you smoke in the room. I told her if I wanted to smoke I would step outside, however on Entry of the room the first thing I noticed on the nightstand was an ashtray. So I then check the rest of the room the bathroom was okay but I noticed that the clothes rack or closet rack had completely come out of the wall on one side. As well as the room telephone didn't have a cord to it. I immediately go back to the office informed them that I didn't like the room. As well as called Choice Hotels customer relation. Informing them about the incident I was then moved to one of their best rooms. My question is to management is to check all the rooms make sure the rooms are up to par because I just don't take anyting glad that the matter was able to be straightened but first impressions are...
