I'm here now, after having rearranged part of my road trip to stay in this totally cute themed airbnb that I thought my teens would love. I seriously spent extra money to stay at The Delaware Hotel (in Leadville) on a weekend, just to stay here for a night (since it was only open for this room on Sunday). I loved the Delaware Hotel, btw, but this was a disaster. First of all, they advertise that you can have two extra twin beds. Perfect for a family with 3 teens who don't want to share a bed! Except they don't mention there is no room for these beds in living room (which barely fits the pull out), so one bed is currently in the kitchen with a red blind (for the theme) and one is in the main bedroom. This is not convenient and could have been mentioned in the ad. When I asked about the red light streaming in through the blinds in the kitchen, the owners' suggestion was to have my teenager sleep with a towel on their face! She claims her husband does this and finds it's very comfortable... I honestly didn't need this level of detail, and I can't make this stuff up. Even more important, the two reasons I booked this place (other than that I hoped to comfortably sleep my family of 5) was the video arcade advertised as the kitchen table and the historic inn. Well, apparently the inn is closed for dinner Sunday night, and breakfast for Monday morning, and there is no other lobby, so all we get is a view of the outdoor staircase you climb up the back of the building to access the apartments above the restaurant. Not much of a history tour, though we do get to see the dumpsters on our way in and out. And then it turns out that you need QUARTERS for the video arcade! So much for an hour of my kids playing... I didn't happen to bring hundreds of quarters, and I have stayed at other airbnbs where this is an advertised perk, and guess what? If they don't mention you have to pay for it, and advertise based on it, it's included and it's free.||||When I explained all of these disappointments and problems to the owner over the phone upon my arrival, her solution was the towel over your face (see above). Or I could leave - though they wouldn't refund the one night's stay. Not only did she refuse to offer a discount (or some quarters for games), but she threatened me that they have my credit card on file, and they can charge me more if anything is wrong. Nothing will be wrong with the place, since we are super responsible people who have stayed at dozens of places (see my other TripAdvisor, Airbnb, and VRBO reviews - I also try not to put up bad reviews of people who demonstrate care for their guests, even if the pictures or the ad are sometimes misleading). Corey Webber, the owner, also said point blank that she has no interest in helping me, since "the place is always booked anyway." I'm going to try and get back to my vacation, but if you want to stay in a place with people you can trust (esp. when you give them your credit card), I would avoid staying here. I love people who pour their heart into restoration projects... and I respect what they are doing. But that needs to include caring about your guests if you want to run a...
Read moreThe Ore House Inn is more a collection of a few separate AirBNBs than a traditional hotel (not necessarily a bad thing—just a different set up). We experienced both good and bad during our stay.
GOOD: Our room (Jurassic Pok) came loaded with entertainment (board games, video games, swimming gear, etc). The location is great (just a quick drive from Glenwood Springs), and the bed/couches were comfortable. The price was also extremely reasonable considering the area and size of the suite.
BAD: The room felt slapped together. The flooring didn’t match throughout, the paint didn’t reach edges, the finishes felt cheap, the layout of the room was strange, and the shower was extremely small—almost to the point of being unusable. There were even a number of opened, half-used paint cans in the closet (which had had its doors removed), and the extra bedding was kept in a plastic utility box. The renovations to the building just didn’t feel very professional. We were also disappointed by the kitchen. It didn’t seem fully stocked. There weren’t any measuring cups, there were very few cooking utensils, some of utensils seemed dirty, and there wasn’t a table to eat at other than the cocktail arcade table.
Overall, the stay wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great, and some of the things we disliked were just a matter of taste. As a side note, remember that the room is in an old building. The walls are very thin (light sleepers be warned) and the stairs are steep. These weren’t problems for us, but they might...
Read moreI was booked this room for work. I got in about 630pm. I was given instructions by text a few days prior and given the code(s) to get in hours before. There isn’t a ton of parking so that was hard, especially because it was already dark when we arrived and snowing. The back stairs are a little sketchy and icy so be careful. Front access needs a bigger indication that it’s for the Ore House because there is also a store front downstairs. The hallways are stacked with Rubbermaid totes and storage boxes. We stayed in Winterfell which is themed Games of Thrones. It was fun seeing the other rooms’ names. The building is obviously very old but quaint. We were given the code for the lockbox outside our door which held 2 keys, one for our room and one for our restroom which we were assured was only ours and right across the hall from our room. The room was pretty cold so we immediately turned on the space heater. There was a nice little kitchen in the room with all the necessities someone may need to cook. The tv and sitting area was nicely set up with GOT memorabilia placed around the room. The bed was a nice size but the bedding was worn and rough feeling. The mattress was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The room faced the Main Street so we could hear everything going on outside. Thankfully, it’s a pretty sleepy town so it wasn’t too loud past 9pm. The bathroom was clean and...
