Truly beautiful home but not quite a bed and breakfast if that's what you're wanting. Breakfast is Keurig coffee and biscuit from a can with some precut fruit. We got lucky the 2nd morning and got a croissant. We read that a simple Continental breakfast was served, not an actual breakfast, but still ended up severely underwhelmed.
Rooms was clean and very adorable. Our first night, the hallway lights weren't dimmed and it was extremely bright in our room since there's a window above the door and a light right by it. Sleep was awful and no way to block the light. I had to request for the lights to be dimmed the 2nd night.
It's very challenging to take a shower. I'm not very tall and still had to awkwardly bend to stand under the shower head and the water pressure was very poor. Took forever to rinse out my hair thoroughly in a weird, hunched over position. Not enough towels provided. Two person room only provided 2 towels for two guests and only one towel hook. The bed is extra, extra firm, with one thick firm (brick like) pillow and one very thin pillow pp. I requested an additional thin pillow and was told they don't carry any extra since they're a small inn, which is very odd in my opinion.
We live locally in the greater New Orleans area and we're looking forward to spending our 10 year anniversary weekend here, but left wishing we booked somewhere we could have relaxed and been more comfortable. $200+/night for a pretty place with amenities equivalent to a motel 6.
We like to spend the weekend in the city for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries etc. Unfortunately we can't add the Grand Victorian to the list to...
Read moreOk... I have to be honest about this. My Husband and I were married at this place. The home itself could be lovely. It has the bones for it. Our room was the honeymoon suite. It was cute but the curtains were full of dust. LITERALLY FULL. Also, they were pinned up. Really bizare. We were to have a drink on arrival. It was some low quality brandy. Ugh... We had to carry our own luggage up the stairs. The breakfast, which was supposed to be homemade, was boiled eggs, muffins, old breakfast bars. You get the picture right? The day of our wedding, the host was there to assist. I dont know why she was there. She did nothing. We had champagne for after the wedding, she had no glasses set up. My Husband had to go upstairs and get them himself. There were no plates, or utensils for the cake. It was a dissaster. That's not all that happened. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and left the next day. Sad that the host knew about the wedding and never went that extra step to make it special. My advice... just say no. I would not want another couple to go through what we did. Sorry Grand Victorian. You need to work on quality and really practice being a good host. Also, when you say you're a bed and breakfast, make an effort! Don't feed your guests horrible food. They pay a lot...
Read moreThe Grand Victorian is a true New Orleans gem. It’s a beautiful old house, tastefully decorated with antiques, so that alone makes it worth a stay - but when you consider its location, it becomes a must-stay. I can’t recommend the Grand Victorian enough, ESPECIALLY during Mardi Gras. We were amazed with the entire Mardi Gras experience. Dozens of parades run right by the Inn. We could walk outside and be at the parade. As locals, we truly understand the gift of this - people park miles away and hike to get to the parades that were on our doorstep at the Grand Victorian. If we were tired in the middle of a day of parades, we could hop back to our room for a nap in the beautiful antique bed. If we didn’t want to be right in the middle of the crowd, we could sit on the beautiful porch and watch the floats go by.
There is so much to offer in addition to Mardi Gras, too. It’s walking distance from the Inn to Commander’s Palace, a bucket-list restaurant. And the streetcar can take you to so many other great restaurants, historic homes, haunted tours - you won’t be bored.
We loved our time at the Grand Victorian. It was a wonderful break from day-to-day life and let us step back in time and...
