Ruby Slipper Uptown — Restaurant in New Orleans

I don't usually write reviews for places but this experience was so disappointing that I had to share it. It is my first time in New Orleans and I had heard that it is best to make reservations for restaurants. Trying to be responsible and be on time to all of my activities, I decided to call and make a reservation. A lady answered from this location, she told me I could make a reservation online. I chose this location because I had a tour in the Garden District a few minutes away. I mentioned to the lady that the minimum I could make for a reservation online was for a party of 8. I only wanted the reservation for my partner and I though. The lady told me that it is fine to still make the reservation but to put that it is only for a party of 2 in the notes section. I followed her instructions and made the reservation. I get to the restaurant and immediately the hostess was rude to my partner and I. She was annoyed that I made a reservation for just 2 people. I told her about how someone in the restaurant assured me that it was fine when I initially booked the reservation. She basically called me a liar and said "well I doubt one of my girls told you that baby, they know better than that". She was close to adding me to the wait list but I showed her my confirmation text regarding my reservation. She made an ugly face at us and just started walking away with menus. She then turned back to look at us when she got to a small table and made an ugly face at us motioning to go to the table. Clearly this isn't the first time she has been rude to customers because there is another one star review on here that includes a picture of her. Clearly no one has told her anything because she still has a nasty attitude. Please don't call people baby because they're not your baby. It is rude and uncalled for. Next time just stay home. The food was good yes but not worth the disrespect. I recommend eating somewhere else that has amazing food and good service. Our waitress wasn't great either, she would forget to check on us and was noticeably nicer to the table...

Why 1 star review? Because of the absurd my wife heard from the hostess. Let me start with the good things.

The environment and atmosphere of the place is great, lots of natural light, spacious, and it feels like you’re in a new and clean restaurant. (5 stars)

Our server, Kelsey was spectacular, we had a party of 8, and she handled like a champ always with a big smile and very attentive to our needs. (5 stars)

The food, you can’t go wrong with anything in the menu, everything tasted fresh, well made, big portion, and delicious. (5 stars)

Now, you must be curious why the 1 star. Well, the lady in one of the pictures, when we got in and asked for a table for 8, as she is preparing the menus, my wife asked. Ma’am, may we sit on that table by the window? She remained silent for a couple of seconds and replied with the most sarcastic tone: “Would you like to do my job? We are hiring!” Even my cousin, who doesn’t speak English and was visiting from abroad asked my wife. “What did she tell you? I didn’t understand, but she didn’t seem happy with your question.”

We have this thing to not complain before getting our foods (for safety reasons) and at the end, we chose not to report her unacceptable behavior because we were on vacation and didn’t want to add stress factors to our trip. But on our way back home, I felt the need to expose her behavior, not to have her fired, I hope it doesn’t get to that point, but to give her an opportunity not to treat customers like that. My experience was not so great here mostly because of the hostess that sat me and my significant other at a table in the back of the restaurant where they store the to go plates, cups, straws napkins. As we arrived and was waiting to be seated at a table. Mind you there was only about 4 tables taken and the rest of the place was emptyyyyy. As she was walking us to the back she had no hesitation saying" just a reminder this is a family establishment" I was confused as why she was telling me, I wasn't speaking any cuss words, showing any kind of meanness, but she continued to say with no hesitation again" ima sit yall here in the back, you can do as yall please" I didn't know that I was going to do anything besides eating breakfast at a restaurant. I have never felt so disrespected and so hurt. I was very uncomfortable for throughout the time we was barely checked on. The waiter that was attended us kept looking at me up and down and for people claiming it's a family establishment I have no idea why the owner would allow such hateful people or nasty personality to work there. I would never recommend this to any friends or family especially if they want to feel welcomed. Your food may be good but your employee is crap. I will stand behind this 100%. The only person that was so kind to us was the gentleman who brought me my food. He was wonderful as for the other 2 "Ladies" not so kind.
