BEWARE
Lets get into my horrifying night......let's just say you better get an airbnb if you plan on coming to New Roads.
Made it to the hotel around 10:20 pm. We walk inside the lobby and immediately notice its hot! A/C barely working. There's small floor fans everywhere.
We get our keys and go up to our room 219. Overwhelming smell of something. The floor is sweating.
About 30 minutes later I notice the floor around the A/C and the whole right side of the room was wet. I go back to the front desk and ask for another room.
We go to the other room 328 and it's hot in there, the thermostat says 85 degrees. So I turn the a/c down with hopes that it will be cool by the time we move all our stuff from the other room there.
We move out the other room 219 and go to the new room 328 and guess what, the thermostat must not work because it reset itself back to 85 degrees.
I go back to the front desk and the lady gives me keys to a new room 329, this room is right across the current room. This room, the thermostat isn't even on the wall so the a/c wasn't on at all.
I go back to the front desk and I tell the lady that the thermostat isn't even on the wall. She doesn't believe me. She tells me to hold on and wait in the lobby. She goes upstairs to the last room 328, and comes back to the lobby to tell me the a/c is working and I need to give it a chance to cool off.
She tried to explain to me how a/cs work. She also said she couldn't check room 329 to see what I was talking about, I literally told her the thermostat was removed from the wall and sitting on the counter. Therefore no ac was on at all.
I know how a/cs work. When you set them, they will gradually get to the temp you set. This a/c wouldn't keep the set temp, it would reset back to 85. I told her that but she insisted that the a/c was cooling. She gives me the keys to 328 anyway, so i pack up all my stuff again and go back upstairs
We open the door and guess what, the room is hot. I check the thermostat and it is set at 85 degrees. At this point I'm extremely frustrated. It's 11:45 pm and I'm still not in a room.
I call the lady at the front desk and tell her what is going on. I ask her could we just go back to 219 because atleast the a/c worked. She said there's another room on the second level and to give her a second to check it out and she would call me back in 5 minutes.
Literally 20 minutes go by and no call. We're hot anr frustrated so I decide to go to the second level back to the first room 219 because atleast it had ac. I remembered that i didn't close the door tight when we left.
Remember the whole hotel is hot. We went in there for relief and we were tired of going up and down stairs multiple times with all our stuff.
She finally calls me and tells me I can come down to get my new cards. We finally go the room, and it's cool. By this time, it is 1AM!!!! She apologized to me. She was nice the whole time I just wished she wouldve believed me the first time about room 328 not cooling but she set us back up there like we were stupid.
It was after 1 when we finally got settled. We woke up late and went down to get breakfast and there wasn't much to choose from.
This was the worst hotel experience I've had since being alive. I taste this hotel -15 out of 10....

Charged my son’s credit card twice (for two different amounts) when normally payment isn’t made until checkout. Waited approx. 30 minutes before being assisted. After finally getting keycards for our rooms, the rooms were filthy, trash cans filled with the prior guests food and trash. Towels were used and on the floor in the bathroom, and the bed clearly had been sleep in but covers loosely tucked. Went back downstairs to request another room. Another couple (who checked in before my family) had returned to complain that their room had a filthy tub. After 30 minutes of waiting, we got another keycard. Went to the room, and the keycard didn’t work for the door. Returned it, and waited another 15 minutes for another keycard. The front desk lady took the next keycard to the room herself and confirmed that it worked. When my family and I got into the room, it was filthy and clearly had not been cleaned….at all. Frustrated and disgusted, I went back downstairs and asked her if she had looked into the room when she checked the keycard herself? I answered for her….Apparently not because she would have seen that the room had never been cleaned. I advised her that management needs to hire new cleaning staff if the condition of the rooms were all the same…uncleaned. My family and I left and booked another hotel 30 minutes away, and I wished we had not wasted so much time at this hotel because we were finally able to relax and rest. Typically, I never say never, but….Never ever will I book this...
Read moreI’ve stayed at this property many times over the years—back when it was a Best Western, newly opened and well-maintained. It’s always been my go-to place when visiting family in New Roads, often during difficult times like funerals. I’ve appreciated the convenience and familiarity, and I was surprised to see it had rebranded as a Wyndham Garden (I was told the change happened last year).
Unfortunately, my most recent stay was deeply disappointing. Upon check-in, the front desk staff was courteous and welcoming, which I appreciated. But when I entered my room, it was immediately clear it hadn’t been cleaned properly. The floor was greasy, pillows were disheveled, and there were hangers scattered on the ground. I requested a new room, and while the second room didn’t have grease on the floor, it was still in poor condition.
It was late—around 11pm—so I decided to tough it out. But the room was dirty and uncomfortable: rust on fixtures, a marked-up toilet, cobwebs, a dusty AC unit, chipped walls, a cracked ice bucket, and a broken lampshade. The ironing board had no pad, and overall, the room felt neglected. I took photos of everything because I couldn’t believe the state it was in.
I informed the front desk in the morning during checkout, but the experience left me extremely uncomfortable. It took me hours to fall asleep due to the condition of the room.
I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously. This hotel once represented reliability and care, and I’d love to see it return to...
