This is the most disgusting hotel I’ve ever been to in the United States. This place is nasty, many would probably say revolting. You decide. It started off bad when the front staff tried to hustle me for $50 for an early check-in, which I didn’t need. I just needed to leave my bags there but was told they didn’t have room for them “You have to be kidding,” I said. They reconsidered and found space for our bags after unsuccessfully lowering the hustle to $40. The rooms were small, but that’s okay. No space for a closet. Not a big deal to me. What is not okay is that they had no hangers or hooks anywhere to hang a coat so the only spot was the floor. The floor? Not an issue for me until I took a shower and the black soot that came off the bottom of my feet from their floor filled the shower basin. Seriously. The whole shower basic had black stuff floating. My god! When was the last time they cleaned the floors? I got that answer by peeking under the bed. I couldn’t believe it. There was a layer of grime, dirt and other debris that was shocking. A bottle cap was there. Other things were there. The attached photos do not show the layer of crap on those floors. It could not have been cleaned in at least a year (see photo). My guess would be 18 months to 2 years. After the first full day in the city I came back to a room that was just like I left it. I thought there had been no cleaning service at all but they did change the towels in the bathroom so there was evidence they entered. But that is all they did. Beds unmade just like we left them. Filth under the bed aged one more day. I’m forgiving and don’t expect perfection. With me, effort goes a long way and I can overlook all sorts of things, but this place is a pigsty. The staff was helpful, I'll give them that, but that's about the only thing...
Read moreIt is conveniently next to the metro station, however the J line in this part of town is above ground, so, yes, the train is loud, as it runs by the hotel. The noise did not bother me at all; I grew up next to train tracks and found it relaxing. The only reason I didn't go 5-star is because their wi-fi didn't work as advertized.
Reports that the neighborhood is "bad" are ridiculous. Like most of Brooklyn, it's very friendly, and the actual density of people looking for a hand-out is pretty low compared to the number of people there. It simply isn't a white neighborhood, nor is it a "gentrified" neighborhood. Instead of going to Starbucks, Chipotle, or Patxi's pizza, you're gonna have to pretend to be a real New Yorker and walk down to Kennedy Fried Chicken across from the J stop. Observe a few things, if you dare: 1: If your skin is white, you're in the minority here. You may even be the only one. The restaurant has an A health rating You're about to get twice as much food for half the price you're used to paying. Their menu is huge, and they serve way more than just fried chicken. The spaghetti is delicious. You may have to wait a while. If you consider carefully the cost of living in Brooklyn, the shoes, jewelry, and clothes that people are wearing, as well as the cars they drive, you'll soon realize that most of them make more money than you do. After all, you're staying at a Super 8.
If you're comfortable with the above 4 things, then this is the hotel and the neighborhood for you. If instead you need a Starbucks and no sound from the train . . ....
Read moreWhen I read the reviews from people that stayed at the hotel, I was kind of under the impression that I was going to a hole in the wall. Well my reservation wasn't supposed to start until 3:00 I read online that for early check-ins you had to pay but I called at about 12:30 1:00 and asked can I come for early arrival and staff was courteous allowed me to come check in early I had an issue with the remote not working I called the front desk, he came straight up to my room and fixed the issue. I've been to motels or hotels in New York City with much smaller rooms than the ones offer here the room was a decent sized we had two beds showers a little different but it was just great work just fine I didn't go to breakfast so I can't speak on how good or bad that is but the eating area was very clean the microwaves was clean and I was able to heat my food up because the rooms do not have microwaves they have refrigerators which is another thing that is common in New York City you ever get a microwave or you get a refrigerator and most motels or hotels. Overall for motel I can say I was impressed by the super 8 I have nothing bad to say about the place it had I listened to the comments and not tried it for myself I would not have went it was a great experience for the fee you pay. There is a elevated Subway right in front of the hotel and the trains do come through very frequently but that's expected in New York City...Decent place,I have no...
