BONAO RESTAURANT — Restaurant in New York

I decided to meet a friend here as I've ordered from here multiple times on Uber eats. The food is great but that's not my issue. First off, I arrived before my friend did and the server comes over within 2 minutes and literally says "you ready?" - no greeting or anything. I tell her I'm waiting for my friend and I'll order when she gets there. My friend arrives, we order food + drinks, everything is fine. Skip to when we ask for the check, we ask her to split it evenly on both cards. She brings us the check (and my mistake) I don't double check the receipt total and proceed to write out a tip and sign the receipt. My friend notices we were BOTH charged (almost) the total of our check (Original bill = $44.55, we were both charged = $43.82). Luckily, my friend spoke Spanish because our server communicated better that way. My friend explains to me that the server says she only charged my friend's card and not mine, and she will refund us back in CASH (this makes no sense) but then we have to give her back the $1 and change that she didn't charge on the card?!?! WHAT?! This absolutely makes no sense. We sorted the bill (or so we thought) and head home. The following day I decide to double check my account and see that my card was INDEED charged the amount she claims she didn't charge me. I call the restaurant and immediately ask to speak with a manager, the woman says the manager isnt there right now, do I want to leave a message? I ask will the manager be back at any point that day (it was about 2/3pm, still early in the day) and she tells me "I don't know when the manager will be back to be honest" huh?? Okay, so I leave my number and she then asks "Do you want to leave a message? They'll only call you back if you leave a message" WHAT???? So I explain to her the situation and she remembers it! She asks me "are you sure the charge isn't pending?" I say NOPE, it's definitely been taken out of my account. Later that day the server that charges us calls me and immediately speaks in spanish (thinking I'm my friend) and I tell her I don't understand, does she want to speak with my friend. I give her my friend's number and my friend later tells me the server is acting like she doesn't know what happened. I call my bank to dispute the charge and TODAY, 2 days later I see she even added the tip that I accidentally wrote on the original receipt and my friend tells me the same thing happened to her the night before! These people are scammers or that specific server shouldn't be charging people's cards when she doesn't know what she's doing. Unfortunately, I genuinely like the food here as it was my suggestion to go there but I will never return or order from them again...

I visited this place with my friends for her birthday and off rip the manager was constantly watching us and making comments on the things we did. However, when the other patrons, who were Hispanic, did the same thing there was no comment. While I understand that this is a Hispanic ran establishment, the majority of the music will be Spanish speaking music when we asked to play our music ( which was only two songs) we were told “ we don’t like to play THAT KIND of music” by the Dj. Talk about a microaggression 💀 To ice the cake when the “happy birthday “ music was playing for my friend it played for 15 seconds, versus the other happy birthday for the other patrons included flashing lights and a longer duration of music play. As for the main course I found it to be very mediocre and very overpriced. I had the Camarones Reventados, which is essentially stuffed shrimp with crab meat. The crab meat was imitation crab meat & I found the overall meal to be very bland. The drinks however were very good, I had a passionfruit pina colada as well as a mango one. My only ick was that I it was too syrupy. We also ordered the sweet chili and spicy wings which were the best thing we ordered quite frankly. Overall I DO NOT recommend if you are BLACK. They seem to favor people of their own kind as if we are not all...

I went here with 2 of my friends. I’m a local and I didn’t want to go far for a nice time out. So we decided to come here. This is a nice spot for all ethnicities because the DJ catered to both crowds the Hispanics and the African Americans. So if your with a mixed group great spot. However I’m giving this place 1 stars due the customer service from one of these bottles girls. If I had known her name I would of include it. Long story short I was the only one leaving of my group. As I’m leaving she tell me that I didn’t pay the tab. I proceed to tell her that I’m the only one of my group leaving that the other 2 are inside and they are paying and she knows that I’m there with 2 other people. As I’m outside she sends some random girl to yell at me outside that I didn’t pay. One of the security guards tells her that I’m not alone that the other 2 are inside. I find that extremely unprofessional and embarrassing what if the security didn’t vouch for me ? Then I called my friend who stayed behind to inform her of what happened and she proceeded to inform me that the waitress charged her card twice. These women need to work on their customer service skills because it wasn’t there. If I go back I refuse to be...
