Sweets & Things is my favorite new coffee shop with the added convenience that it is only down the block from me. The owner gets the coffee directly from farmers in the Dominican Republic. I'm a big fan of the flavor profile especially as someone who prefers to drink coffee black. (Not like those people who prefer to ruin their coffee with a ton of milk, sugar and sweeteners) When you go to your regular degular Starbucks and order black coffee, it tastes burnt. Black coffee at Sweets & Things is rich, smooth and flavorful. It also gives me the motivation I need on the days I work from home.
My typical order of an iced black coffee (formerly a double expresso man) and a pastry is always greeted with a smile and light conversation. One of the baristas has even memorized my order and knows around the time that I'm going to arrive. Speaking of pastries, while Sweets & Things is well known for their delicious tres leches cake flavors, I must say that their pastries (cookies, muffins, etc.) are extremely underrated and delicious.
I'll close by expressing my excitement to see a neighborhood with not many choices outside of bodegas and small restaurants finally have a coffee shop that is owned by someone from the neighborhood. Too often change comes from the outside and unfortunately tends not to benefit the working class community that it should serve. Sweets & Things is an example of real community service. I look forward for what shall come...
Read moreI haven’t had a chance to stop by the shop yet, but my mom got me a few treats for my birthday after I shared a video of the owner. I grew up in Cypress hills and my mom still lives there, so I’m excited to stop by for the full experience some time soon! Especially after being blown away by these tres leches.
When my mom went the first time, they were sold out of the ube but the girl let her know they will be making more tomorrow and it would be the last batch for the season until summer. We’re so thankful she let us know because it was our favorite out of the 3! The frosting on it is unreal, so foamy and not too sweet. The ube was so rich, absolutely loved it and will look forward to its return!
I also tried the guava and the coquito. Both absolutely delish. On thing I noticed is that each of the flavors varied in texture, with the guava having the most milk, the ube the most cake-y and the coquito somewhere in the middle. I don’t mind it at all, I think they were all unique and the taste was fantastic- but something to think about if you prefer your tres leches a certain way (I loved how milky the guava was).
The packaging was so cute and such a special touch. You can tell a lot of thought goes into their product and brand, I was so impressed by everything. Cannot wait to go to the store and try some of their drinks and more of...
Read moreWe went all the way from Jersey City to visit this place, and it was really worth it. The moment we walked in, we liked the vibe. The place looks nice, feels cozy, and is kept very clean. You can tell they take good care of it. They are well known for their tres leches, and they have many flavors to pick from. We tried the lychee coconut tres leches, and it was amazing. It was soft, creamy, and full of flavor. The mix of lychee and coconut was different but very tasty. We also ordered a strawberry shortcake. It was soft and fresh, with just the right sweetness. Along with that, we had a strawberry white chocolate coffee. The coffee was smooth and sweet, and it went well with the desserts. The staff here were also great. They were friendly, polite, and happy to help. They explained the menu to us and suggested what we might like. It made our visit even better. Overall, this is a very nice place to enjoy desserts, especially if you love tres leches. The food, the service, and the clean, cozy setting make it a spot...
