Very disappointed in their customer service. First, they do not answer there phones and I had to call 3 times before a guy answered. When he did, he mumbled and the phone was very quiet. We booked two rooms to be next to each other for a bridal shower weekend. We reserved 3 in one room and 4 in the other. We were promised to be at least near each other. I called at 12:15pm to see if the rooms were available for early check-in. From what could be made out of the conversation, he was trying to tell me we would be on separate floors if we checked in early. I decided to drive over and talk in person since the phone line wasn't clear. Once there, the same guy I talked to on the phone came to the desk to talk to me. He told me the hotel was completely booked, but he would see what could be done with getting our rooms near each other. After a few minutes of looking, he said we actually could be next to each other, but that we would have to come back at the normal check-in time after 3pm. I confirmed we would be back around 4pm.
When I arrived about 4:15pm, I walked up to him saying I was back to check-in for our two rooms. He had me sign my room first. In the meantime, the a few more in our group came in as he pulled up the other room on the computer. My friend signed for her room and I asked what room number she had. Mine was 512 and hers was shockingly, 324. Completely on the opposite side of the hotel and two floors below ours. We quickly turned around and asked him how that could happen.
He said it can't be done (when he confirmed we were together 15 minutes before when I first walked in). He kept repeating that it couldnt be done and then then proceeded to say that it was not a party hotel, making the assumption we were going to trash the room or something. He also made the snide remark saying extra guests were not allowed. Not wanting to deal with his unprofessional conduct, we went upstairs with the plans of talking to his manager later. When we came back down 20 minutes later, we asked to talk to his manager. He proceeded to laugh and smile saying no manager was on site for the day. He said she would be around on Monday, two days later. He very rude and even immature.
He ruined the start of our night. All traveled far distances to see each other and we wanted is to have our rooms near each other to get ready together before dinner on Main Street.
The hotel rooms themselves were fine but had some makeup stains in one bathroom. This is the only reason I give them 2 stars.
We will never go back unless they change...
Read moreMy sister was rushed to the hospital local to this hotel on Saturday evening and placed on life support. My mom and I live in different states and traveled a few hours to be by her side we brought very little with us as we were in a hurry to get to her and had no clue what was in store when we arrived. ||When it became clear that we were going to be in for a long haul , I called around to a few local hotels. The first and second one that I called actually quoted me over 300 for what would be a 5 hour stay and then raised the rates as I was on hold. Candlewood suites was the third hotel on my list. Latoya answered the phone and I immediately felt at ease and believed that she would help us. I explained a little bit about what was going on and she just took care of everything. She said , you just get here and we will work it all out." ||We ended up staying the week and have booked another in the assumption that we will need lodging while my sister wakes up from her coma and is slowly taken off life support. (She has done both at the time of this review!)||In a time when I question all of humanity, I cannot explain what it means to my family to have a hotel welcome my distraught family with open arms, provide us with clean and comfortable accommodations and inquire about our sick family member each time we enter the lobby. ||I hope that this review makes its way to the right people. Having a woman like Latoya as the first person to greet you is the absolute right choice. She is spectacular and when we look back at this horrible experience, we will ALWAYS remember her grace, kindness and empathy.||I would also like to thank jay who was also so kind and accommodating and Nikki who helped us more than she could ever know. ||To the powers that be: you have an incredible staff ! They are all deserving of...
Read moreI recently stayed at Candlewood Suites Newark south University of Delaware, and I have to say, it was quite disappointing.
First off, the kitchen appliances were a big letdown. The gas stove was barely working, and the dishwasher wouldn’t close, making it completely unusable. The strong, unpleasant smell coming from the cabinets was so bad that I didn’t even want to use any of the kitchen utensils or appliances. It was really frustrating since I expected to have that convenience.
The furniture in the room was also in bad shape. The sofa was uncomfortable and showed a lot of wear, and some of the chairs were damaged, which made the whole place feel uninviting. It really affected the overall vibe of the room.
Then there was the bathroom. Honestly, it was a mess. The shower leaked water everywhere, creating a slippery situation that made it hard to use. Plus, I didn’t ask for accessibility features, but the bathroom layout didn’t seem to accommodate basic needs, which was really frustrating.
To top it all off, the strong smell coming from the cabinets made the room feel unclean, and the odor was quite funny in a bad way. The overall cleanliness left much to be desired, with dust and grime in various spots.
Overall, my experience at this hotel was nowhere even close to ok. With the broken appliances, uncomfortable furniture, a leaking shower, and that awful smell, I can’t recommend staying here. There are definitely better options nearby that I’d suggest...
