Berrysweet cafe — Restaurant in Newark

Hey, Fam. I do not suggest eating here if you are a BLK-person, as they do not seem to like us, but do enjoy our money. I came here for the first and last time tonight, Sep 30, 2025, to order crepes, but needed to use the restroom first. Hashtag, MOM LIFE, lol—IYKYK. I used their bathroom, but noticed the toilet seat was raised, which was off-putting because I am a woman and physically disabled. There were no grab bars, but I still managed. Afterward, I ordered almost $40 worth of crepes and a shake. I was waiting when I noticed how nice the atmosphere was, and I wanted to see if there was another, more woman-friendly, handicapped-accessible bathroom other than the one I used. I also wanted to see what type of other accessibility they have, as some in my friend group are in wheelchairs. As I began to walk into the back, just past the bathroom to peer into what I hoped was another bathroom (spoiler alert: it was a dingy mop closet), the owner began to SHOUT at me, “Hey, Hey!!!” as if I had just Apple paid $40 to steal from him. I was appalled. I still am. Three UD girls soon came in and they received the VIP treatment, which I hope was not because they are hWite. Anyway, this would have been the perfect place to host my next BOD meeting, but, alas, I must find a more accommodating place, preferably one that does not serve Type 2 Diabetes as “crepes.” See image, where toothpick shows the level of chocolate sauce they covered with my crepe. Yes, you will be discriminated against—AFTER paying them—AND served a heaping of hyperglycemia for your blood glucose levels....

Went in to order the Dubai Strawberry cup & the customer service was OFFFFF! Once I placed my ordered, I watched as the cashier put gloves on to make my cup, cool! Then halfway through, she took one glove off, picked her phone out of the pocket and proceeded to send a text or whatever she was doing. Mind you, she still had one glove on. She did this twice & the second time her pointer finger and thumb of the gloved hand touched her screen & she picked up the strawberries with the same gloved hand and fingers that she touched her phone! THEN, she was asked by the second cashier to open up soda cans, which she did with the gloves on! I don’t know about anyone else, but germs are a thing that I can’t stand! & to watch that unfold in front of me, I quickly asked for a refund. I was then talked about by both the cashiers in my face! Service was great. Employees very attentive and helpful. However, the food and the atmosphere is not what I expected. Since it is a "cafe", I was expecting it to be more cozy. Also, I didnt spot any espresso machine. Footagewise, it is spacious but felt too cramped for some reason. It looked like a deli joint more than a cafe. The crepe and the fruit bowl were not at the temperature I expected. The crepe was done fresh but when it was served, it was just cold and the fruits were at room temperature. I expect my crepe to have that delicate balance of warm crepe and cold toppings. The fruit bowl I expected to be refreshing at chilled temp but the fruits were just room temp. The coffee was ok.
