I Recently purchased a home here in Madison, IN. Moved here from my home state of California (Los Angeles). In my new found interest in Mid Century design, inspired by my 1956 ranch home, I found myself looking high and low for period furniture of quality and fair pricing. While out for a drive, I stumbled across this unassuming store in North Vernon, IN on a sunny afternoon. Upon entering the store, to my surprise, I immediately noticed the level of quality and selection, as well as a nice mix of furniture styles to be had there. Honestly, I did not expect that, given the location: Never judge a book by its cover! By the way, nothing at all wrong with the nice town of North Vernon. Anyhow, they even had, to a lesser degree, Mid Century styled pieces too. What I didn’t know, but know now, is that the owner; Eric Kimmel, and the rest of the helpful staff, are willing to help you find specific items through their myriad of vendors with which they deal, as they did with me. For example, I just recently ordered these GORGEOUS retro-looking custom covered swivel barrel chairs through one of their vendors: Best furniture. They arrived a week ago at the store, I just recently went into the store to see them, before having them delivered. My first impression was; OMG!!! WOW!!! I felt like I experienced nirvana!! They had me choose the fabric (700 fabric choices), and leg color. When I sat in them, I was extremely impressed as to how comfortable they were as well! I can’t remember a time when I felt this pleased over a furniture purchase in my 58 years on this planet! To my delight, I was informed that Best furniture makes their product here in Southern Indiana. What a fine, fine job: quality, workmanship, design and fabric choices!! Honestly, I was hoping, at best, to just not be too dissatisfied, as I try to be when it comes to buying anything new. This time however, I am actually overly impressed; blown away!! My new chairs, the way I feel, look as if they were actually manufactured in the early 1960’s, then immediately preserved in an air-tight time capsule, only to be saved for their 60 year unveiling. It’s EXACTLY what I’ve been searching for! You won’t find these on Warfair, Joybird, or anywhere else, except through Best furniture. Lastly, I want to thank the Furniture and Things staff for putting up with my specific furniture needs and desires, and being kind and patient with me. Thank you Eric, Kathy and Lonnie.
Regards, Your happy customer,
John...
Read moreDo not buy anything here. The staff was dishonest about the time it would take to for me to receive my mattress. I was told 3-5 business days, and after two and a half weeks, they still didn't have it. When I asked for a refund, Cathy was rude and tried to talk me out of it. In the most disrespectful tone, she said, "all sales are final." the owner who was in that day intervened, and he gave me a refund, but he was also extremely argumentative and tried to get me to buy something else. When I told him my concerns about what happened, he became defensive and denied everything. They have high-quality goods in there but have poor business integrity. Responding to Owner: With the owner response, my point is being made. He completely ignore the fact that Cathy was rude and the staff being dishonest. Also Eric rather talk about how great his store is instead of addressing the problems that do happen. He did it to me then and he is doing it in the review. I was upset at the fact that I called twice to see what was going on and they said "we will call you back" and never did. When I tried to tell Eric this he ignored me and went on about how "we have high quality" and "we don't receive sales commission". He continues to do this responding to me. Dont trust this place they only...
Read moreFurniture & Things truly stands out for its commitment to quality craftsmanship and creating a fun, welcoming shopping experience. My mother and I were assisted by Lonnie, who enthusiastically walked us through some of the most unique and thoughtfully designed pieces I've ever seen—from couches to bookcases to entry tables. These weren’t just beautiful; they featured clever details I had never encountered in furniture before.
In a time when so much modern furniture is mass-produced using particle board or MDF, it's refreshing to find a store that offers solid wood, Amish-made pieces built to last. What impressed me even more was how reasonably priced everything was, especially given the level of quality.
Although I only purchased two side tables during this visit, I’m already looking forward to coming back once I have a clearer idea of what I need for my home. Highly recommend Furniture & Things for anyone who values durability, design, and a personalized...
