Let me start by saying I am giving a 2 star review because I rarely give 5 stars and give 4 for stars for some of the best service and experience and save 5 star for beyond exceptional. With that said I feel I need to review this restaurant from my experience. This is the first time visiting this restaurant. It appeared neat, clean, and had a very asthetic appeal to it. It looked much like any other nice family Mexican restaurant we might visit. Our server was very nice, I had no problem with her. My son ordered the egg and sausage scramble and it came extremely dry and over cooked (stuck together, dry, brown, crispy) We sent it back and although we received a better cooked scramble, it still did not taste very good.My meal was a taco/enchilada/rice combo. The beef in the enchilada was not seasoned and lacked flavor. The rice had a weird flavor. I don't know how a Mexican restaurant can mess up rice but it was horrible. Nothing was seasoned well and our meals were overall below par. Mexican is our favorite restaurants and while they differ I quality, they usually all taste about the same. I have never had a Mexican meal I didn't like until this restaurant. The food just didn't taste right. It was awful. I would have sent our food back immediately and asked for a refund (I knew all meals would taste like this) but we were so hungry and had a long drive home (Plus our meal was pretty cheap.) I will never return to this restaurant it was so bad we found ourselves looking around the place and watching other people's reaction, but not seeing anything. I then went to check reviews and noticed there were pretty good ones. So.. I don't know if it was the cook on our shift (lunch) or if people in North Vernon just think this is what Mexican food taste like...but it was terrible. My son ate a small portion of his meal and wanted the rest in a doggie bag...I feel bad for taking him there, to be honest. It will never...
Read moreMy experience here was only ok. The hostess seemed preoccupied on the phone and acted like we were an annoyance to be there. We were given a basket of chips and salsa immediately but not asked for our drink order or anything else. We finished the basket of chips and salsa and decided on our meal and still no one came to wait on us. After finishing that basket of chips they did bring us a 2nd bowl and finally took our drink order. While she went to get our drinks a guy finally stopped and asked if our order had been taken and took it when we told him no. I ordered the Fajitas with all the meats. When it was brought to the table the platter was not sizzling like a normal Fajita platter and the food was barely warm, the refried beans had a big gob of burnt beans in the middle and so I was only able to eat half of them. They did bring me a 2nd drink when I finished my 1st and someone slammed our bill on the table and marched off. I was a bit taken back by the whole experience and doubt that I will be back for...
Read moreBetween five of us we ordered 3 different dishes. The steak was too chewy, too fatty, and too rare on one of the dishes. Also on this dish, it came smothered in mushrooms. While this wouldn't be bad the menu never said anything about mushrooms and the person that ordered it doesn't like mushrooms. On the second dish, the lettuce was not cut up enough and the water wasn't spun out enough leaving a lot of water on the plate. The rice tasted much like Uncle Ben's and the refried beans lacked flavor of any kind. The ground beef was also lack luster and dry. The third dish was a child's dish of chicken nuggets and fries. Neither one of my children (4, 10) ate very much. Which is unusual since they will eat the same thing from McDonald's and want more. For the money we paid I definitely expected better quality of food. That's the one and only time we will eat there. My kids don't even want to go back. One big thing that got me was seeing a few children...
