LaQuinta Suites by Wyndham South Bend Notre Dame Area — Hotel in Notre Dame

I never leave good or bad reviews because really what good does it do? But my experience with this hotel was so bad I’m just choosing to vent at this point. First of all, the first room they gave me I walk in and see stains on the bedding. Instead of calling down I go down to get the sheets and things to change myself and the guy goes “if I were u I wouldn’t change nothing I’d just get another room”. (So I know that everywhere is just short staffed so I was trying to accommodate and not be a butt but improvise) I said well if that’s protocol then sure I’ll take another room. The next room they give me had stains on the couch period stains and the door to the shower was broken. I go down and I tell him the issues with that room and I make it very clear that I know it’s not his fault but I at this point what are some accommodations.. he gets very defensive with me (mind u I’m not even loud with him just expressing myself about the TWO rooms that are not even really presentable fr) he stands and stares at me without further instruction or trying to get me another room or anything and I’m like so what we supposed to do just stand here and stare at each other he goes “if you want to” like bro where’s your professionalism.. so I kindly ask him sir since you can’t help me can you please get your manager or someone that is willing to help me. He tells me he’s the only one there and he doesn’t have contact to his manager- bold lie. Finally he says if you bring me the keys to the other rooms I can put u in another room ( but before he told me it’s no rush to return the keys and I only left the one key upstairs by accident which was on me but again he said it’s not a rush to turn them in- if I’m complaining about the room what make u think I’m finna go back in there but he had his rights) the last room was ok… couch still dingy as ever but it worked out but the bed was very uncomfortable the pillows were full of like air or something I had to use four to make one usable pillow.. and then I was awakened by a dog barking three days in a row.. I did speak to a manager and she said she’d talk to the guy and give me some extra points but I’m just glad I got out.. I did stay my duration but only because it was easiest instead of waiting my refund, and then trying to find something last minute would have been way more expensive.. the breakfast was good the first day but I feel like they just warned it u for the next day (the biscuits and gravy) but the waffles were good. I booked this room due to the great reviews well let me start by saying how inaccurate they are...... I sent a message via their app where it lets you put in a request.... I asked to be put in a room away from the elevators due to my noise anxiety... yes its my problem but not something crazt to ask for. She tells me she didn't see the request i show it to her. Told her no one responded. The check in girl is really nice but I asked about my request she said the 1st shift ppl assign the room I just check ppl in. I go upstairs I am one room away from the elevators..... I go back downstairs she says she cant move me because everything is full. Ok...cool I'll have to deal with it. The city is booked up due to kids baseball. I go back upstairs defeated... I lay down move my pillow... I find what looks like a pubic hair I will attach a picture below. I take a picture go downstairs show her the picture she says she'll move me rooms she understandsi told her w ecan change my sheets something but this is disgusting...I go back upstairs to get my bag... she then tells me she checked with her manager and she says she cant move me. Oh ok well 2 minutes ago it was fine now she was told she had to change my sheets.... well where's housekeeping? Poor girl... but to have one thing after another happen. My request not read or returned... pubic hair on my sheets..... manager not allowing me to move rooms.... Id give it negative stars is i could. The hotel looked nice obviously looks are deceiving. I will not be back. But they want to hold a $150 incidental fee..... but I gotta sleep in a obviously dirty room. I should be the one charging them. Again front desk girl was beyond great. I need to start out saying that my husband is an extremely picky hotel guest. While my family has always been okay with the cheap end of hotels, especially when it's just a one night stop-over on our way to someplace else, my husband demands a little more quality (he's a former truck driver who has run into many horror stories).

That said, this hotel checked all his boxes, and was also on the economical side, which I loved. It was awesome. The moment we walked in the door, you could smell how clean the hotel was without any cleaning chemical smell. The staff was super friendly. It's in a safe neighborhood and easy to access.

The room was already cooled down when we opened the door. Maybe a little too much, but by the time we dropped our things and went to eat at the Steak n Shake down the road and came back, it was perfect. The beds were super comfortable (and impeccably clean), and the bathroom was well lit (no sign of "brown water" like another review said). The towels were thicker than many hotels I've stayed in and soft, not scratchy.

Part of the reason I chose this hotel was the good reviews. Only 2 in the fairly recent period of time were negative & they weren't deterrents because one was not the fault of the hotel (they quickly closed the pool because another guest got sick and needed to clean - this is actually a positive! That's what they're supposed to do.), and the other seemed to be an isolated incident that they also seemed to address quickly. We had no issues that required assistance, and we didn't utilize the pool with this being just a one night stop on our way to our vacation.
