The Sheraton Novi is an older Sheraton that has had a lot of lipstick on a pig updates since it was built in the 1980s. This includes an exhaustive renovation of guest rooms a year or so before the pandemic.||||Outside of its location, which is super convenient for the suburbs in just about any direction, there isn't much positive to say.||||Zero Bonvoy elite recognition. Was never addressed by name at check-in or thanked for staying. No welcome letter or any kind of amenity.||||No bellman or doorman. Front Desk never offered assistance with baggage.||||I booked a rate that included 2,000 bonus points per night and a welcome amenity. I never received the welcome amenity.||||My room, a king on the 7th floor, was dirty. Pubic hairs were on and under the toilet seat, there were hairs in the walk-in shower, hairs on the nightstand next to the bed, and junk on the furniture and carpeted flooring. Like nail clippings, food debris, hair, etc.||||For the cleanliness issues that I experienced a manager offered me an unspecified number of points.||||On the plus side, the room had a robe and slippers. But the robe looked wrinkled and like it had been worn by another guest.||||Pillows were 3 feather pillows and 1 down-alternative pillow. None of||the pillows had pillow protectors or pillowcase liners.||||The mini-refrigerator was room temperature and wouldn't keep anything cold or even chilled.||||Individual toiletries have been replaced by wall-mounted dispensers in the shower and dispensers on the countertop. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash dispensers in the shower were completely empty. The lotion and liquid hand wash dispensers on the countertop were half-full. No mouthwash. No vanity kit.||||The Club Lounge is open Monday-Friday for breakfast and Sunday-Thursday for evening snacks. Snacks at night were a limited to a choice of sliced carrots and celery with some sort of dip (maybe ranch?) or an unknown kind of meatball with rice and cooked vegetables that was served lukewarm. There was some sort of dessert that looked like cold pancakes with cream cheese stuffing. That was it. Alcohol was for sale. The lounge attendant said the wine was Barefoot. Barefoot sells for $4-$6 by the bottle. Come on. That's really, really bad. If you're going to charge for alcohol, at least have a good wine for sale. The coffee machine was broken. ||||No newspapers were available in the lobby or the Club Lounge. How difficult is it to have a few copies of the Detroit News or Free Press?||||I also didn't see any local information in the room; not even the Visit Detroit magazine.||||The Lobby Bar is the only restaurant. The dining room was closed and appeared only operational for breakfast.||||At the Lobby Bar, they were out of several of the wines on the wine list. I ordered the Chandon sparkling wine. Chandon is an average mass-market sparkling wine. I was told they were out of it. The only options were Ruffino prosecco and Salmon Creek sparkling wine from California. Ruffino is pretty low-end. I've seen it at gas stations. Salmon Creek is even worse. It may even be worse than Barefoot. If it sells for more than $4 a bottle, I'd be surprised. Just an awful wine. The rest of the wines on the wine list were mediocre grocery store wine brands. Nothing great but at least drinkable. However, prices were high. $20 for a glass of Wente chardonnay -- a chardonnay that sells for $11-$13 by the bottle. That's highway robbery, even by hotel prices.||||When I got my bill I noticed I was overcharged by $4 per glass of wine. That's not an insignificant amount. Additionally, the price for the caesar salad with salmon was incorrect. I pointed this out to Tamika and she responded by calling me rude because I said I was overcharged. Her colleague came over and sorted it out. But that was just so unprofessional. So, check your bill against the listed prices on the menu. ||||At breakfast, the buffet in the restaurant was on the lower end of the spectrum. No smoked salmon and no cheeses. No fresh juices. Just what appeared and tasted like bulk sugary juices. No egg station for eggs made to order. There didn't seem to be an ala carte menu. I didn't see any ketchup or honey. The waiter poured me a cup of coffee and never bothered to refill it or come by except to give me the bill for $16 and change. For $16, you can get a better breakfast at the McDonald's across the street.||||There is only one working elevator in a 7-story hotel. Apparently, there's no service elevator because hotel staff with housekeeping carts take the one working elevator. As a result, it can be a considerable wait for an elevator. ||||All things considered, this is an awful Sheraton. Unless Marriott Bonvoy points are important to you, the Holiday Inn Express directly across the street or the Holiday Inn two miles south are a better value. This could be a nicer hotel with more attentive management, better housekeeping, and better staff -- especially in the restaurant. Between all the issues I experienced it's clear that management is not focused on getting the...
Read moreUpon check-in I was offered a complimentary upgrade to a nicer room, as they needed the room that I booked to accommodate another reservation. I obliged, but upon getting comfortable in the Deluxe King Room on the 5th floor I quickly realized it was the pet friendly floor and there was a dog barking non-stop. I called the front desk twice before they agreed to move me to another room. I asked them if they would be able to bring me the key to the new room, and they told me they did not have enough staff at the time so I would have to go down and get the key. I went down to the lobby, and was upgraded to the club floor for the inconvenience. I asked the front desk if they could move the fridge from my original room to my new room, and they said it would not be a problem. The fridge never came. At about 5am, I was woken up from alerts on my corporate card, that it had been deactivated for fraudulent charges. I was inadvertently charged an additional $168 for the room upgrade in addition to the amount I had initially paid for my reservation. I called the front desk, and they told me to call back at 7am to speak to a manager. I went down to the lobby around 8am before work, and spoke to the manager. He was unable to provide me with any sort of resolution or explanation but assured me that he would contact me later in the morning to let me know what was going on. I never received a call. I returned to the hotel later that evening and went back to the front desk to see what had been done to reverse the charges. They told me that nothing could be done until I checked out, and that they would comp me a drink and an appetizer for my inconvenience. I reminded them again that I never received my fridge, and they told me they would send it right up. I waited, and it never came. I called the front desk, and they apologized and said it would be in my room soon. It's now saturday. still no fridge. I ordered room service to with the special request for hummus with cucumbers only, as I have a severe gluten intolerance (which is why I wanted the fridge, its easier). The watery hummus arrived without cucumbers, and with pita bread. Room Service said they would send another one up, prepared correctly. They never came back to my room. I travel on a weekly basis for work, and I have never complained EVER about a hotel stay. It should also be noted that the Sheraton Club Lounge is NOT open 24/7. As a matter of fact, the lounge inaccessible after breakfast on Friday and remains closed until Monday. You cannot even access the lounge for a quiet place to work, or to access the printer.
This is not business-travel friendly hotel by any means, and the staff does the bare minimum. This is not my first time staying at this property, but it is certainly...
Read moreMy brother is a loyal customer. We used to go as kids with my mom, who just passed away, and he was so excited to take my kids for the week. He stays here for months at a time when he is in town. First they made us change rooms for someone more important.... We had 2 rooms, at about $800 a night combined. They couldn't even comp us breakfast one morning for changing rooms with one hour notice. They gave us a new room and not a single plug worked, and the other had a broken fridge. They were so incredibly rude to him several times. Then the power went out because something caught fire (we believe) smoke billowing from the back of building and no smoke alarms went off. For almost 2 days there was no elevator. A cold pool, and it was completely dark for over 12 hours, nobody even checked on us or told us what was going on with the power. The next afternoon they came to get payment shortly after some of the power returning. Mind you this is for the time the power was out and no elevator. They sent 5 different people to the door in ten minutes, they also were calling over and over. Wife was in shower fiance at work so only left the kids to answer for them. They told my kid if they didn't get payment in ten minutes they were sending security. This is a 20 year customer whom has never had an issue with payment. To make matters worst daughter has special needs so hearing the security thing freaked her out. Calling mom at work trying to track down Uncle who rented rooms ect. They could of called his cell or waited a few minutes for me to get out of shower to speak to adult. The following day we were checking out, and we had until 2pm, the cleaners came at 12 and kicked us out, stating they were calling the police. This place is Ludacris for the amount of money being paid. Of and if your a coffee lover They have no coffee passed breakfast. Never been to 4 Star that didn't have it in lobby 24/7, none of the fridges worked in our rooms and 2 floors don't have working ice machines. The entire hotel knows him by name, yet for no apparent reason they did all this, the one time he brought guests. Never again, this experience ruined the memories we had as kids with my mom. I don't know if you could not pay me to return. He was so embarrassed they behaved this rude, he cried. My brother is blind in one eye and had an eye infection . The lighting is also terrible, there are no USB ports and the toilets hardly flush, so if you like looking at the persons body waste who used it before you, you will enjoy the Shart On hotel. I would put no stars if...
