Copy/pasting what I sent them- they reached out for feedback intially but after I sent them our concerns they haven't reached back out.
We're long times Four Seasons fans, never had a less than 9/10 experience at any FS around the world, and I've never made a complaint to any manager or written a review for any hotel at any price point (good or bad), so we're not karens lol.
Check in: requested early check in (2:30) which we know isn't guarenteed, we showed up and were told the room wouldn't be available until after standard check in time (4:00)... this ended up being 6pm. we booked a special room with a hot tub so we didn't want to swap to a worse room. the woman helping at the front desk was very nice, and offered a $300 credit which wasn't necessary and let us use the waiting suite they have to shower after a long flight.
Cleanliness: once the room was ready it was clear housekeeping was rushed here, I dont blame them since they were told to turn around a room very fast and who knows how messy the room was, but we found a half drank water in the fridge and some dirty spots (very minor). when i flagged the half drank water to them on the FS app asking to confirm we're not charged for it, they only replied with we'll send more water. when I brought up wanting to make sure there was no charge, they just never replied.
Noise: there was construction daily and relatively early in the day, this is something we ran into at FS Maui but they proactively told us about this and offered to swap our room, FS Oahu never addressed this.
Food: pretty hit or miss room service, this is actually why they contacted us for feedback but this wasn't the worst part for me. first night we ordered 2 teas and a piece of cake and it took over an hour. 2nd night we ordered a cake that was on the late night menu and the person who answered debated with me and tried to convince me it wasn't on the menu despite me looking at the menu in my hand. also minor things like missing buckets of ice we'd need to call back for. we booked the brunch 2 months in advance, despite this when we showed up they said they were tight on seating and tried to seat us (2 people) at an 8 person table by the pool. when i asked if we could sit in the actual restaurant and bc I have a back problem and the pool table had hard benches, not chairs, they moved us to one of the many open tables.
Concierge: we asked via the app to book a private outdoor table at Noe over a month in advance (extra charge), and they replied by sending a link to a 3rd party app to book it myself which I thought was odd. I did this and checked in on the res the night before at the concerige desk and he said they can't check reservations in their system, and wrote down my info on a piece of paper to call me back. they called and said they couldn't find the res. they offered a new time but we just decided to cancel. the concerige was nice, but their systems seem terrible. FS Maui everything can be done through the app seamlessly and the concierge can book anything/everything both on and offsite.
Valet: the actualy drivers were great and friendly, but 2/3 of the valet reception girls were pretty bad. one girl was great, offered us food to feed the fish, and cold water before we left which i standard at FS Maui. the others felt like they couldnt be bothered to help you. the girl who i only saw once on our departure day was outright rude and made faces (rolling eyes, yuck face) to a colleague at my fiance who was taking pictures of the fish.
General: the easy comparison is FS Maui, been there 6 times, always 10/10. Staff remember your names, years later servers remember my orders. they always offer directions, towels, water, etc. FS Oahu if you ask for something, they'll do their best to help, but otherwise it feels like most staff dont want to interact with you. 80% of the staff are good, 10% of them are great, but the minority who are bad seem pretty poorly trained. For almost $14,000 it's disappointing. If I was spending $2,500 at the Marriott this service...
Read moreWe stayed here for our honeymoon and it was wonderful. The staff was exceptional- really top notch service. ISA (valet) and Bradley F (front desk manager) were especially great. The cove the hotel sits on is beautiful and insulated from the outside world. It does share the cove with a Disney hotel but we didn't find that to be too much of an issue. The biggest downside I thought was we couldnt hear the waves. At all.
The view from our junior suite was amazing of the ocean though. We overlooked the pool and cove. The grounds are Meticulously maintained and picturesque. We originally had a hot tub room on the main level but it was exceptionally noisy (near the pools) and had No view of the ocean despite that being shown on the website when we booked it. Very misleading from a marketing point of view. We ended up trading rooms for an additional $200/night to get a suite that overlooked the cove and pools.
We had several in room dining meals which were awesome (Buddha bowl, kimchi burger, club sandwich). The room service was exceptional. The breakfast buffet at the restaurant downstairs is awesome and so are the ala carte choices. It has everything you could want and more. The "no jito" and POg juice were amazing. The coffee shop in the lobby is also great.
the four seasons is not a budget friendly place by any means so plan accordingly with tips for the valet, room service tips, added taxes and charges on everything, high priced meals etc... but I think It was worth the price for the service and ambiance! We found it to be very relaxing and an easy "jumping off point" to get to other places around the island. Definitely try to find a travel package that might include an activity or 2 or breakfast included. All the activities offered like yoga etc... were additional charges.
The room keys were cool rfid wristbands. Made it easy to not lose it when we were swimming or at the beach. Not sure why people had different colors of bands though. Ours was blue and there were also teal and black bands also.
We rented a jeep and the valets were wonderful about parking and grabbing our car.
The housekeeping services were great too!
The pull out bed we had in our room was not able to be slept on because it was so hard. Felt like sleeping on the floor even with a topper on so I wouldn't count on having that as an option.
The bed itself was great and the sheets were soft.
The rooms are a bit dated (like a phone in the bathroom next to the toilet and basically no counter space) but the neutral decor is relaxing and feels organic and fitting for the island. We had a very large double closet, living space, bar/fridge and plenty of space in the room. Having our own patio with table/chairs/lounger, sliding doors, a screen and plantation shutters was lovely.
The concierge was great when we needed suggestions on shopping locations or restaurant ideas. We also got some amazing beach suggestions and local restaurant ideas from the valets.
We got a couples massage on property. The massage and spa area themselves were lovely. However, the small "private" cabana type space where we had our treatments was not. It was loud and located near an outdoor event patio. We could hear people taking, laughing and silverware/glassware clanking the entire time. I wish it would have been closer to the ocean, maybe on the lawn area so we could have had a view and/or could hear the waves. The outdoor shower that was attached to the massage space was only semi protected and a couple of balcony spaces looked directly down onto it... not what I was hoping for considering the price point. Some of the products used during our massage did contain hemp- so if that is a concern for you, be sure to ask in advance because they were not labeled and the staff was not well versed on what did or did...
Read moreA wonderful place to escape the hustle and bustle of Honolulu. TL;DR - overall a great location to have a wonderful vacation if your main goals are easy-going beach time and serious relaxing. I expect perfection from Four Seasons, and they delivered for the most part, with some minor shortcomings.
We spent 6 nights at this property in October and had a fantastic time. The staff was wonderful, and will break out my review by areas.
Food: Overall the food was quite good. We ate everywhere, and did room service quite a bit. Of the finer dining options, we were most impressed by Noe. It was some of the best pasta I have ever had. All the restaurants had good food and good service. The biggest issue we saw with dining was the propensity of the restaurants to put out linens and cutlery and then birds walk all over it. I quickly learned to request fresh linen & cutlery upon sitting down. I think it would behoove the restaurants to just have the tables clear and lay it out when you sit down. We really enjoyed room service and ordered it regularly and had many meals on our balcony.
Room: we were offered an upgrade to the 1 bedroom suite at check in for a huge discount of the standard rate and we decided to splurge - we are glad we did. The balconies and view were better, and we just had so much space for lounging. The bathrooms in the suites had Toto washlets - bonus! The bed was comfortable, and the air-conditioning worked well.
Housekeeping: overall we were pleased with the daily housekeeping in the room, but the common areas were not kept to the standard I expect with Four Seasons. I walked by the same debris in the hallways for 4 days, they clearly did not vacuum the hallways and elevator lobbies on the floors. I also noticed some mild dirt accumulation on the baseboards in the hallways. Common area cleaning could be improved. This is one of the reasons this property did not get 5 stars.
Staff/Overall business: staff was fantastic! Everyone we interacted with was so nice and accommodating. I especially want to recognize Marta who checked us in and did Concierge duty, and Nikki who manages in-room dining. They checked in on us throughout our stay and were so thoughtful and attentive. The beach, pool, restaurant, coffee shop, valet staff were all wonderful.
Four Seasons needs to up their game when it comes to environmental conservation! They are really lagging behind compared to their peers. They used a fair amount of single use plastic. I would like to see in-room water options be single use plastic free. I have been to luxury hotels all around the world and most offer re-usable/refillable glass water in room. Another reason it's not 5 stars.
Location: this was exactly what we were looking for. The beaches at the Lagoon were great, we really enjoyed snorkeling with the complementary gear every day. The Resort has quite a few activities in-house, and we especially loved the star gazing with the Astronomer! We wanted to have a very low-key, relaxing time which is where this property excels. If you want a vacation where you get out and see/do a bunch of stuff, this probably isn't the best place for you. There are a few restaurants near by, but not much is going on in the local area.
Summary: we would return in a heartbeat. The lagoon beach was amazing, and we found it so peaceful and relaxing. We'll just hope Four Seasons can address the few...
