I’ve been planning g our “out west adventure” for at least 3 months after reading many reviews I booked my room in April. The different with this property is part of the reservation you are required to sign a lease. In that lease, it states no refunds can be made due to acts of god.
On Friday, July 13, a fire broke out in the area. We were checking in on July 15th. At no time did holly mention any warnings / issues surrounding the cabin. I even reached out to the caretaker and Holly on the day of checkin to see if we can check in a bit early due to an early arrival from the sequoias. She told me no problem, I can check in early. Even that same day no mention of the fire.
We were approaching the cabin and could tell there was something seriously wrong. As we got closer the park ranger told us that there is a voluntary evacuations but very high chance it would become mandatory.
We had no cell phone service. Thankfully we were able to contact holly via WiFi. She informed me that there were no recommendations for other lodging and would not return any of our money as it was listed in the “contract”
She was not compassionate nor helpful. The ashes were falling all over the place and could see the fire trucks lining up and yet nothing. Other renters in the same condo were being told refunds are NOT an issue and were assisting renters who were coming in from all over finding themselves in a jam. In addition the other management team was instructing renters not to enter the property due to the risk of danger.
I would highly discourage renting from this company. If you chose, get renters insurance, which was never mentioned during the reservation. I could understand if my flight to Yosemite was interrupted due to weather from my departure causing a travel delay , but I can not understand how we can not get any type of refund when the property is unsafe.
There are plenty of rentals that have a much friendlier policy especially dealing with evacuations. Even the National Park service has a policy in place of an emergency takes place, you are entitled to a refund.
So now my family has to lose over $500 and find a new room...
