VERY cute & cozy! Loved the overall feel and atmosphere, staff was very nice. View was great and felt very private. I'd never been to a B&B before, and I'd definitely do it again - only difference next time I'd make sure to be on an upper floor. The building is old, so naturally there is a lot of creaking; I felt like I could hear everything happening above me (walking, water running, some talking etc.). Also, it's fall, so there are more bugs and critters...
The only reason I gave it a 3 was because there was a MOUSE in our room. Now, we did not physically see it, however: a) by morning there were droppings in a small bowl of pretzels b) there were droppings in the bathroom on the floor and by the sink (I was terrified to brush my teeth and promptly threw out my toothbrush that was sitting there) and the real kicker: c)I had a couple Reeses candies in my (open) purse on the table, next to the pretzels, and NO JOKE the at 430 in the morning I woke up to strange noises and made my husband scope it out - we found a Reeses on the floor near the corner by the bathroom. It had beeb unwrapped and the foil was chewed, the candy was a few inches away with a relatively big chunk of the chocolate candy missing down to the peanut butter.
All in all, I didn't make a stink about the mouse at checkout, but mentioned to the guy that it was quite disgusting and he agreed and admitted that this time of year it's a problem. As compensation for the issue, I got a coffee mug. No discount on the over $200 per night room - I get they are running a business, but it wasn't a spider or a fly (which we saw plenty of), it was a MOUSE.
It was all a disappointing attempt at an apology, honestly. I work in customer service, and for many years worked at hotels - I would be mortified and apologizing to the end of the earth if this had happened...
Read moreI’m one night through our two night stay at the Inn, and I’m already absolutely enchanted. It’s historical, but well maintained. Right when you walk in you’re greeted by a picture window with a gorgeous view of the river in a common area, where there are also a few amenities. There’s a keurig and the “honor bar” which is a good selection of beer and wine. We are in the Sunrise Room, (I thought I was booking the room with a private balcony, the SUNSET room, little did I know there was sunrise AND sunset rooms and I picked the wrong one, but that’s my own fault) and it’s so cute! There’s a fireplace, a huge picture window (view of the street is ok, but there’s tons of adorable communal sitting areas to soak up the view) the bed is super comfy and theres a BIG jet tub. We are waiting on our room service breakfast that is homemade French toast and mimosas. Though, I accidentally booked the wrong room, the communal patio is super pretty so I don’t feel like I’m missing much. The owner texted me check in information and was very responsive when I had a couple questions. Don’t even get me started on the food at the nearby Dalles Supper Club, or how cute the town of Osceola is. Overall, yes, it may be a little more expensive than a Holiday Inn. You may have to pay a little extra for breakfast. But the point is to stay somewhere not just for somewhere to sleep but somewhere charming and homier than home. We are going to come back for our anniversary year after year. Good job...
Read moreI went here for a solo getaway in the Sunrise Room and I absolutely loved it. The room was beautiful and charming, with antique furniture and fixtures, a fireplace, and an adorable bathroom with a huge soaking tub. It also had a TV with Roku and a mini fridge. The breakfast was delicious and homemade, and the $10 for room service was totally worth it and goes entirely to the teenager who brings it to your room. The inn itself was very quiet and peaceful, but very homey and comfortable. The owner, Roxy, texted me before I got there and was available by text whenever I had questions or needed anything. I picked up a bottle of wine from a store, and I was able to grab a glass from the coffee bar in the lobby, and there was already a corkscrew in my room. The one drawback was that there’s no individual climate control for the room, so if you’re a warm sleeper I would recommend considering a room on one of the lower floors, or keep the ceiling fan going. The town in winter doesn’t have a ton of food options, but the grocery store in town is wonderful and has great options for snacks, sandwiches, and treats. All in all, this is an incredible value - I kept thinking that I could not believe how much I got for the price. Any place like this would be at least twice as much in the Twin Cities. I will...
