For a mid-range hotel in a smallish town known mostly for its wineries, I was pleasantly surprised. I traveled here for work, and stayed 3 nights. I had a double-queen room to myself in the main building. ||The hotel is spotless and welcoming, and clearly has been updated in the last few years. I didn't get to use the outdoor patio, but it was very inviting looking. The lobby and breakfast area were extremely clean and there's a fountain/bottle filler for your fresh drinking water needs just off to the side. All of the staff I encountered were warm and friendly.||My room was also spotless and included a decent size bathroom, a kinda-kitchenette with a mini fridge, microwave and Keurig, a desk, and a chaise lounge chair/reading nook in the corner. There are plenty of lights and outlets for charging things. Lots of pillows and very comfortable bedding and mattresses. ||My one small design peeve: the bathroom door blocks the shower/tub when open, you pretty much HAVE to close it to get in, but there's not much anyone can do about that. Water pressure is maybe a little too good, would have been nice to be able to adjust the showerhead. Plenty of hooks and racks and towels were refreshed daily.||I did not use the pool or fitness center, so I can't comment on those, but they are available. The breakfast selection is really good, honestly - fruit, pancakes, a wide variety of baked goods, hot items like omelets, sausage and bacon, yogurt, cereal, juices. It didn't vary much the three mornings I ate there, but it was tasty. Coffee is good too.||In the evening (at least during the week) there's a manager's reception with snacks (popcorn, snack mix etc) and usually 2 wines and 2 beers to choose from. Nice little perk.||The location is not really walkable to anything besides KFC next door, but it's convenient to the highway and downtown Paso Robles, which is a cute area. Parking is plentiful though a little oddly laid out.||I don't know if or when I'll be back in Paso, but if the time comes, I would definitely...
Read moreI have stayed here many times for the ability to have my 2 small dogs stay with me when we visit wine country, and for the knowledge that a flat pet fee per stay was donated in part to a local animal charity. I was shocked to learn upon check-in that the policy had changed to a fee per pet, per night and the front desk person unaware of the hotels donation to any animal charity, past or present. The front desk person was not accommodating nor empathetic to concerns about the increased pet fees or to the filthy conditions of the pet excerise areas outside, which were filled with feces and trash the entirety of our stay. Moreover, a common hallway area, where my dogs were allowed to walk in, had a pair of dirty women's underwear on the floor, and if you know anything about dogs, it's a curious treasure they would be happy to investigate. I find as a dog owner and as a hotel guest that to be completely unacceptable and utterly disgusting. Especially when I discovered the underwear early in the morning, witnessed a housekeeping member traverse the same hallway, and saw the underwear still there a few hours later. I expressed my concerns to the same front desk person upon check out, and was given a slight accommodation for the things I complained about over the course of 2 days. This same front desk person was additionally rude, dismissive and sarcastic in the way I was spoken to. Numerous emails to HIE managers has so far resulted in 2 apologies and hopefully a full resolution to the concerns I addressed. The room was noisy and there was a weird bathroom exhaust fan above the bed that buzzed loudly when a light switch flipped on, probably a gross oversight when the room underwent a recent renovation. I only marked yes to recommending this hotel to others due to the fact that after I emailed corporate, they have promptly apologized. I do believe they will address the concerns I had and make efforts to ensure the comfort of future guests and have a better awareness of customer service due to...
Read moreWe came in March 2016 to attend a Zinfandel festival at some of the great local wineries. The location of this hotel is excellent because it's close to town. The staff were great. When I called to confirm my reservation, they were welcoming and very efficient. When we arrived, the staff greeted us with smiles and checked us in very quickly. The room was close to an elevator but it was generally pretty quiet...we couldn't hear into the other rooms. We are picky about linens so they weren't the softest but the bed and pillows were so comfortable. The bathroom was nice. I'm picky about shower heads, and it provided good strong water flow making it a very nice and relaxing shower.
The breakfast was okay. I like protein for breakfast, and survived with the hard boiled egg and the turkey sausage, but they did have instant oatmeal, cereals, yogurt and the other usual express breakfast options. No fun waffle maker though. I liked that I could go down and get hot water for tea in the evening when I needed. I think coffee was available all day as well.
The only problems we encountered were with some of the mechanical aspects of our room. The room temperature was either too hot or too cold. We couldn't get it to work. Also the internet was spotty and sometimes didn't work. Because we were in and out so much we forgot to mention it to the staff until we checked out. They said to be sure to always let them know if we have a problem with anything. They...
