Date of visit: Sat Aug 19th , sun Aug 20th, 2023 When we decided to take a road trip to Philly, we didn't realize how costly hotel stays would be. Everything in Philly was so pricey we decided to broaden our scope to see what came available. Thats how we found the Best Western Plus. It is located just over the river from Philly in New Jersey. The hotel is right on the highway, which made getting to the hotel the first time a surprise and challenge. Subsequent entries were much more accessible, but as first-time visitors, it was a quick turn. The hotel has ample on-site free parking with several spots for charging stations. The front desk staff were very friendly, helpful, and informative. This is a lovely, modern hotel with beautiful rooms. Our room was charming. It was very comfortable, with a lot of room, a big comfy bed with large fluffy pillows. Our room looked out over the highway, and we expected there to be a lot of noise from the traffic. This was– not an issue even though it was right on the highway. This is a 100% smoke-free hotel, so there was no concern breathing in that aroma (old or new). The bathroom was spacious & clean, with a tall shower, which is perfect for tall people. Exceptional staff. Every staff member we encountered was outstanding. They were all very friendly, engaging, and helpful. In fact i witnessed several staff going out of their way to help their guests. One guy, who appeared to be maintenance/cleaning team, helped a single mother and her three young children get breakfast (which was still out) even though it was technically closed. They were so grateful as she clearly had difficulty getting three youngsters ready for the day, and she was disappointed to miss breakfast. There is a Complimentary full breakfast. Hot coffee/ tea, eggs, breakfast meat, juices, an assortment of fresh breakfast bread, muffins, and pastries. A selection of popular cereals and oatmeal. Waffles and yogurt. The hotel does have a gym with assorted equipment like free weights and treadmill, elliptical, and bike. . There is no pool here. The hotel is not pet-friendly; service dogs are accepted. This is a fantastic place to stay: exceptional service, comfort, and quality. The challend of navigating your drive to philly goes away after your first attempt. Stay here, you won't be disappointed.

The best part was Ms. Essie (forgive me if got the name wrong), who was tending to the continental breakfast bar. She is definitely a happy person and seemed to really enjoy interacting with guests. Nothing was lacking on her watch, everything was stocked perfectly. She seemed to take pride in her work, rightfully so. What a sweet lady. Our room was what we expected. We were next to the elevator but it surprisingly didn’t disturb us. The building appeared to have some renovations done within the last few years. There was a good sized parking lot with three electric car chargers. We were glad not to have to park on the street. The neighborhood was fine, it was on the edge of an industrial park. It was along the highway but we couldn’t hear traffic from inside. There are very few electrical outlets in the room. The desk attendants were all polite and attentive.

This is a nice hotel and we would definitely consider staying there again. It was a close drive from BB&T Pavilion after a concert, which is why we chose it. It was clean and had a friendly staff. We took a star off as our 4th floor room (king size bed) was very small, all we needed for sleeping, though. We were on the highway side and we did hear the loud trucks throughout the night and early morning. You can see how close the highway is from the window. We would try to get a room on the other side of the hotel. I meant to ask, but totally forgot. Breakfast was good, two waffle makers, scrambled eggs, cream chipped beef (but we're out of biscuits by 9:45), bagels, muffins, oatmeal, variety of cold cereals, yogurt, apple and orange juices, plus more. They might offer different foods on other days, we only stayed one night.

Best Western's "Plus" concept results in some pretty decent accommodations for the price, and this location is no exception. The Plus designation often means there's a bar/restaurant on site, although that's not the case with this property.

The rooms are plenty nice enough, with updated furnishings and all the standard amenities. The rest of the interior is all in great shape...recent carpet, a fresh coat of paint on all the walls, all the light fixtures are good with working bulbs, etc. and the place it impressively clean.

Lately I've been placing more value in a nice hot breakfast, and it looks like the independant owners of this location feel the same way. All standard fair that's prepared and presented about as good as is possible given the lack of a true commercial kitchen. And all included in the price of your room.

What I was impressed with the most was the front desk staff present when I arrived. I'm traveling for work of course, and my schedule forced an early arrival. Upon inquiring about the possibility of an early check in, the fabulous woman working the desk almost immediately replied "sure!", as if she just didn't care how 90% of other hotels respond to that request. It was wonderful, and very appreciated and rare.

This is of course New Jersey, which is somewhere on the Earth I'd just as soon not be...like ever, and this location is about nine minutes away from a semi-scary urban northeast downtown area, with lots of police action and BLM supporters behaving badly at night.

But those 9 minutes of distance are just enough to make this property feel much more safe and civilized after dark. If you're looking for a place to spend a night or two in this area, I think you'll agree this Best Western Plus location is a worthy choice.

*Important Update: I forgot to mention something fantastic and completely unique (at least in my experience) about this hotel:

They've one of those fancy digital coffee machines in the lobby. It works flawlessly, but more important, it will make you a cup of hot chocolate.

They have Hot...

My review for the staff is excellent (room cleaners, mostly front desk, etc). A special special shout out to Mary, the lady that runs the morning breakfast service. She is exceptional!!! She keeps the dining room clean, food refilled w/o asking etc. As a customer, you want for nothing. When she’s off, there’s definitely a huge difference in service and cleanliness! The fill in staff really give the impression that he doesn’t want to be here or do this job. Tables are not cleaned in order to sit, food runs out and never refilled. If it is refilled, it takes forever and it’s a huge difference in quality. Biscuits ran out for bfast and not refilled, fruit not restocked and the entire time we were there, not once did anyone clean any of the tables! The counters in the food area were dirty and not wiped! Spilled syrup, sticky countertops that weren’t cleaned. Waffle batter machine, orange juice machine were empty and took forever for a refill! There were other customers complaining yet no staff response. Customers treated like the staff were really bothered! Only because I have been here when your “A” team worked, I knew we had to suffer through the service today. If this were my first time here or only breakfast, it definitely would not have been a good representation of BW services! Mary’s days off really need attention and/or better staff! Again, housekeeping, front desk, etc were...
