some of the BEST steak I’ve ever had. 🥩❤️ #nj #food #restaurant #foodie #review

Saw that The Pub had renovations and re-opened, I picked going here instead of Charlie Brown's for my birthday. I called days prior for reservations, had them set for 6PM. We arrived early and checked. At 6:15 PM I asked for an update because other parties were being called with similar sizes. Told it would be a few minutes, went up again at 6:30 PM, then told we were next. He didn't get sit until 35 minutes after our reservations. And they had buzzers but were calling out names on their PA system. We got sat, pitchers of water on our table, glasses filled. Wait staff didn't ask for drinks, let us go over the menu. Bread for dropped about 5 minutes later by someone else. After twenty minutes, it wait staff came over and said that they were going to take both drink and food order. Then went to to the salad and relish bar. They had a relish, cranberry, good but why mention a relish bar? Ceasar salad and iceberg lettuce were on opposite ends, with plates by the iceberg. So either wait to get to the Ceasar or be rude. There were various breads but no labels. It felt underwhelming. Drinks were not brought out until another 20 - 30 minutes after they were ordered. Though you got alot with what we ordered, wine and a frozen cocktail. I'll say an hour after we ordered we got our food. The way that it is served table side was interesting. The steaks and baked potatoes were in a deep dish over heat, with Au jus sauce in the bottom. As steaks were plated, the wait staff would laddle the Au jus on top. I had prime rib, it was already plated. It was alot of food and looked good but it was ordered as medium rare, it was medium well. With how long it took to get anything, I didn't send it back. It was still tender but not as tender as it could have been. It taste fine but it was more something to expect from a banquet hall, also why I didn't send it back I doubt they were cooking to border, vs a proper restaurant. It was alot of food, I can see why everyone leaving had to go containers. I don't know what was done in the renovations over the summer at The Pub. The signs for the salad bar looked like an art project for children ( black paper sign with Ceasar in orange letters). Extra wiring added wasn't covered or enclosed or color matched. Lights were not all working. The dinning area was really loud, it was difficult to hear those at our table. The floor was carpeted, the owners should have had acoustic panels added to the ceiling. The toilets required multiple flushes. The sinks were all backed up. The bathroom looked like it was from a 70 year old elementary school. The old school soap dispensers didn't work and only some of the plastic dispensers were working. This is all easy things to get fixed while closed for months. I don't see going back. The service was slow and disorganized. The food wasn't anything to write home about. It costs alot, though if you have leftovers for two meals I guess that equalized out. You can't hear you are with. The theming is cool and The Pub has been open since the 50s, but it seems like that is it. Ownership should fix issues with reservations and getting people seated. Wait staff needs to be more attentive. The sound levels need to be addressed. Plumbing needs to be addressed. The main dinning area needs better upkeep and a refresh to lean in more.

This was our 1st time here, although out of our party of 12, several had been coming for decades. We were anticipating an excellent experience. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. We did have a reservation for 4:30 pm and were greeted promptly. The restaurant was empty, with maybe 3 tables occupied. The restaurant was nicely decorated for the holidays, which made for a pleasant ambiance. We were seated in the bar area. Now normally that wouldn't have been a problem, but we had 2 people with walkers and another needed assistance. We also had 2 USMC combat veterans with PTSD. The stress of the situation caused a flare-up. Fun times. 😔 Not! Why put us on a different level than the salad bar? Where we had to walk to the ramp, down the ramp and another 20-30 steps to the salad bar. And then back again to the table. Ridiculous! We asked to be moved and were told we couldn't be relocated. Then one of our group sought out the boss, told her they had been coming here for 58 years and another in our party for 25 years. Never have they had an issue before. Especially in a pretty empty restaurant. Also none of us would return. We would be writing reviews. And, of course, word of mouth. Well, voila! We were moved to the lower level at a round table that accommodated our party of 12 comfortably. It took about 40 minutes from the moment we arrived until we were seated at a table we should've been seated at to begin with, right in front of the salad bar. The salad bar was wonderful. A large selection. Everything was very fresh. I could've made my entire dinner with just that! We ordered our dinners. Most were good. We both ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs with stuffed potatoes. Ours was very overcooked. Tough. Very tough. What a disappointment. Our server was gracious and offered to have our dinners remade or we could order something else. My husband really wanted the ribs so he reordered. I didn't want to take the chance so I ordered a steak. By the time our meals came, everyone else was finished. And, to be perfectly honest, we weren't hungry anymore, as we filled up on bread while we were waiting. So we ate a few bites and took the rest home. The replaced meals were quite good. The ribs were perfect, falling of the bone, this time. My steak was cooked exactly to my liking and was quite good. None of us wanted coffee and dessert. Unfortunately there was a problem with their credit card processor, so we had to wait quite a while to finalize our check. Most of us traveled an hour or more for a less than stellar experience. I doubt any of us will return again.

I have never left a negative review and honestly hate that I have to because I always loved the ambiance of the pub...... I sat at the bar and ordered the filet from their "premium" steak section of the menu. I got a $70 steak that was 90% fat and bone. Bartender and/or waitress was nowhere to be found for over 20 minutes (it took me 20 minutes just to get a menu and another 15 mins for my drink). Bartender/waitress was extremely rude and unhelpful with any of the questions I had and when I wanted to ask about the quality of my plate she was nowhere to be found. Finally, after eating literally the only four bites of steak that were edible, I wanted to go to the bathroom and ended up finding my waitress/bartender hiding in the waiting section of the restaurant on her cell phone, texting. When I was finally able to address the quality of my serving I was addressed in a combative matter. I was extremely frustrated but tried keeping my cool so I asked for my check--to find the bartender gone for another 10 minutes. I decided to go outside and smoke a cigarette while I waited for my check but found that I was followed by what I assume was security because they accused me of leaving without paying for my bill...how humiliating and unprofessional. I have never left a bad review for a restaurant--or any place of business for that matter, because I understand the struggles of staffing and cost issues private businesses are dealing with nowadays. The straw that broke the camel's back was that the aforementioned bartender/waitress was talking about me to other customers and then they automatically charged a 20% tip before I even saw the bill. Believe it or not I was planning on leaving at least a 20% tip anyway because that is just the way I was raised. I just think it's ridiculous that management & staff were so passive in my complaints and basically said "screw you". I have always loved the pub but I am afraid it has gone way downhill and won't be surprised when I hear that it has closed for good. I'm completely disgusted and nothing was done to try to satisfy my visit. This place is not what it used to be. Stay away--there are many other places in the nearby area that value their customers. Try The Saloon, Chubby's, The Library... or even McDonald's before you come to this dump! And I forgot to mention... the salad bar was awful and it seems like the food was sitting out there for hours and hours-- disgusting mushy lettuce and god-awful looking potato salad and other relishes. Charlie Brown's in Woodbury has a much better, fresh and...
