I’ve stayed at Ritzes and Red Roof Inns. I’m not picky but I do like to get what I expect. Maybe that’s my fault with this Marriott. I thought with the price tag and location I was getting a fairly nice hotel. The pics looked lovely and my husband is a Marriott Gold member (maybe Platinum now) but wish I had some of the previous reviews. Firstly, the valet/unload/load area is a narrow bit of chaos with angry Karens yelling at the poor bellhops. They had a “waitlist” for a luggage trolley but we were getting hassled to unload the car so they could move it for a grumpy woman who said she’d only load her luggage in the shade. We didn’t know what to do with small children, luggage, some groceries, a stroller, etc and no way for two adults to carry all of it at once without a luggage trolley. No effort to help or offer a solution. Then at checkin they said our room wasn’t ready. Fine. My husband had a tee time and forgot to ask how long it they thought, so he went back to the desk. A different person standing right next to the first lady he had spoken to looked puzzled snd said, “What? Your room is ready.”
My husband ran up, changed, and went right back down then waited almost 45 minutes for the car again and completely missed his tee time with his clients.
The room itself was filthy. Chips and crumbs all over the floor. Sunscreen on the closet and bathroom door handles. Holes and stains in the walls. Gross carpet. Stains on the couch. Trash in the drawers. A piece of glass on the balcony. No sheets or pillows for the pullout bed. I called about the last two things - the phone either rang and no one picked up or they’d put me on hold and never come back. I finally got someone and to be fair, there was a knock at the door soon after - with a maintenance person carrying two chairs and asking if we had requested new chairs (so someone told him the wrong thing). I told him about the glass and he took the balcony table and came right back with a broom so that was good.
Tried to have lunch at the pool bar. Sat for 20 minutes with no server. One finally came and she said the team’s pre-shift meeting ran over (until 12:15). Then she was the one one on and every table was full. I felt bad as she navigated all that but it was difficult to ask for anything because she was so busy. The next day it took 20 minutes to get a menu then another 45 minutes for a kids chicken tender and two Miami Vices and over an hour for a fish sandwich (they brought my and my daughter’s food out saying my husbands would be right up and it was 20 minutes later).
Also, a liquor license problem waiting to happen. One night we saw an older couple with their 11/12 year old son absolutely trashed out of their minds. They were falling down drunk with their kid and the bartender kept serving them shots and drinks. We felt so bad for their kid because he was left to take care of them.
As for the rest, people smoking on the balconies, by the pool and beach. No one says anything and trashy people just drop the burning butts on the ground or in the sand. Shameful. The whole beach is just littered with trash that’s left there by guests and then by staff to blow into the ocean. To the point one evening we walked around and picked up 40 plastic cups and entire bags of garbage left behind.
Maid service was hit or miss. One day they came no problem and another we had to call twice times because it was after 4 pm and they hadn’t come. It sounds like we kicked out in that area in comparison to a lot of people.
Lastly, lots of wedding here. Like every day. We never had any problem with it. Never heard any noise but just a heads up they can get rowdy during the day in the pool areas.
The staff themselves are nice. Elija at the towel stand is wonderful. The beach staff are great (but please pick up some trash!). And the food at the pool bar wasn’t half bad once we got it. Also note there are no restaurants in a comfortable walking distance. There’s a tiki bar a couple hotels down and that’s it. A few a short ride but a 20/25 minute...
Read moreThis was a last minute anniversary staycation and our first visit to Fort Lauderdale Marriott Pompano Beach Resort. I work in healthcare and never really have any free time, but if I could rate it more than 5 stars I would!
Diego and Jalicia were the check-in representatives when we arrived- very accommodating. Wonderful personalities. Very courteous. I requested an early check-in as well as specific items like extra towels, feather free pillows and a room near the elevator and all my requests were accommodated. We arrived at approximately 11 AM and the room was ready about 2:30 PM vs the original 4 PM and they held our bags for us in a locked room which we had access to it at all times and they called us at the pool when the room was ready.
William was our poolside bartender (amazing!) and also Josh was outside as well as inside the restaurant (great service and even better because of their demeanors!) Its well into the 100s outside and a very busy weekend yet they always had a smile, and were so professional and fun!
While there is only 1 restaurant on property, everything we ordered was delicious and very fresh. We had a grilled chicken sandwich with fries that they don’t offer on the menu but we requested and they obliged and it was delicious! We also had a chicken sandwich they offer on the menu that is fried and breaded with a honey sauce that kind of has a kick. I was so obsessed with it I think I ordered it three times while we were there. Absolutely delicious! I also ordered their chips and guac which was very good. My husband had the full buffet breakfast and although he's not a big breakfast eater, he went up for seconds because of how good the food was.
We paid $75 to rent a cabana because it was extremely hot and sunny and we wanted as much sun protection as possible. It was well worth it and as an added bonus they continuously provide you with bottles of water and ice and towels.
The room itself was perfect. Size, layout and view - perfect! My only complaint is microwave would've come in handy to warm up food leftover from the restaurant and coffee /tea.
I can honestly say the only one blemish the entire weekend was not something I experienced but something I witnessed (several times). There is a policy that no outside food is to be brought to the pool area. While I now know there is a sign stating this policy, I never noticed a sign nor was I informed of this by anyone during my stay. I'm sure this is the case for most guests. Yet, I witnessed the restaurant/pool manager come out to the pool area and with such an ugly tone and choice of words tell 2 families they had to dispose of the food they were eating. The first time I witnessed it I though it was odd, the way he was handling the situation. The second time (just a few minutes later) he approached a family with 4 small children (obviously under 5yrs old). The children were sitting on the floor next to a lounge chair and the man walked up to the family carrying a pole with a sign attached to the top to show them the rule and stood there while advising the mother she needed to throw the pizza away. It was rude, embarrassing and to be honest quite condescending. I work in healthcare and for me being kind goes a long way and it starts with not what you say but HOW you say it. Asking the mother to come to the side to quietly inform her of the rules, and accepting that misunderstandings occur, and allowing her the opportunity to take her children (and pizza) to the room would've been appropriate. But I was in the back cabanas and heard every tone, every word and I was appalled, disgusted and honestly embarrassed for her. SHAME ON HIM.
This was our first time at this property and definitely not our last. I've already recommended it to several people - including my parents who booked immediately and will be staying at the resort next weekend. Thank you to all the staff that made it a memorable...
Read moreWe stayed here four nights a couple of weeks ago. We had read the mixed reviews and weren't sure of what to expect. I'm glad we decided to stay here. Our room had a view of the ocean. It wasn't front facing, parallel to the beach. The balcony opened up on the side of the resort, but it was angled with a nice view of the ocean. The air conditioner worked well and kept the room very cold. It won't run if the balcony doors are open. We had 2 queen beds, a 3 drawer dresser, a nightstand with 2 drawers, a chair, a desk with a computer chair, a nicer television, a refrigerator, a coffee pot, and a safe. The beds were clean and comfortable. The bathroom was big and clean with a tub/ shower combo. They provided shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel. We didn't request daily housekeeping but were able to get extra towels and toilet paper from the lady that was cleaning rooms. Ice machines are on the 4th and 6th floors.
The hotel has a restaurant that opens early (6 am, ish?) for breakfast and closes around 10 or 11. We ate there for breakfast each day. Jacob is an amazing server and took great care of us. Ricardo is an outstanding bartender with a wonderful personality. Georgie, I'm not sure if she is a host or in some sort of supervisory position, but I am positive that if hospitality had a picture beside it in the dictionary, it would be a picture of her. She had such a genuine welcoming to her that is rare in the industry today. We also ate supper here a couple of times. The food was delicious and is kind of pricey, but that is to be expected. They do have a kids menu. You can eat inside in the air conditioning, or you can sit out back by the pools as well.
Directly behind the hotel are two pools, lounge chairs for tanning, cabanas to rent, a tiki hut to get and return beach towels and to get complimentary fruit flavored water, outside showers to rinse the sand off of you, hot tub, and outdoor bar (part of the above-mentioned restaurant). They are doing renovations to the outdoor area - pools and bar - so be sure to check if construction is finished. I think that starts in August. There's a gate that leads from that area to the beach. The beach has a sand volleyball area and cornhole boards. The resort fee includes two lounge chairs, two hour access to boogie and body boards, as well as kayaks. They also have jet skis to rent. Extra chairs and umbrellas are available for an additional daily fee. There is a sandbox, an enclosed area for little ones, with sand toys up on the beach, away from the ocean. The area has a lot of seaweed in the ocean, so it washes up on the beach. Mostly in the morning, with the tide, but they rake the beach each morning with a tractor. The water was warm, and the continuous breeze was amazing. A few different times, coconuts washed up on the beach. That was neat to see. There are also a couple of little areas marked off to protect the turtle eggs.
The only issue we had that I saw mentioned multiple times in the reviews was that when we were checking out, we were charged each day for valet parking and a parking tax. We didn't drive a car there. We told them that when we reserved our room, as well as when we checked in. In the end, when the lady at the front desk gave me a copy of the bill to review, the charges were on there. The problem was fixed, and the bill was corrected immediately before we left. The incorrect amount, including the valet charges and taxes, pended a few days at my bank before the corrected amount actually went through. Just be sure to thoroughly review your total charges upon check out and bring attention to anything incorrectly charged and have it corrected before you leave.
We are thoroughly pleased with our experience at this resort. We will definitely return next year with more family as long as the pool and bar reconstructions...
