Look. I didn’t book this looking for the Plaza experience. But for the love—this was pathetic. A short summary of our experience:
• Filthy floors (son’s feet were BLACK with dirt minutes after bathing) • Dirty sheets (we could tell they weren’t changed because the blanket was shoved down under the sheet to the foot of the bed, meaning it had just been re-made and not changed after the last guest) • One room reeked of marijuana • Another room reeked of onions • Grab and go breakfasts included severely bruised fruit and gas station donuts • Black mold on the shower curtain • Tub had a dip and a soft spot in it that dipped each time we stepped in • We had to practically beg for towels. We needed new towels every day because the bathroom fans were not working, and therefore the bathrooms stayed damp and towels wouldn’t dry. • None of the outlets would hold a charger without it falling out • Elevator stopped working several times and once my family (including my elderly grandfather) almost got stuck in it • TV didn’t work in one of our rooms • Pool and pool area was filthy • One of the “sealed” coffee cups had a coffee stain on it, meaning it was used and then put back • If anyone needed anything in the hotel, and the front desk clerk needed to step away to assist, there was no one there to help with check in. For example, we asked for a rollaway bed for our toddler, and while she looked for that, no one was there to run the desk. As a result, the family right after us waited an HOUR for check in, presumably while the poor woman looked for a rollaway bed.
The poor woman at the front desk (Colletta, I think?) was doing her best, but we saw that there was literally no one else working there except for one front desk staff and one assistant at a time, so we didn’t bother trying to get these issues resolved while we were there. It was a holiday weekend, hotels were booked to the max, so we had no choice. When my family wrote reviews to this end, they were told that it was basically on us because we didn’t complain in the MOMENT. Forgive us for trying not to insult the one poor woman at that run down joke of a hotel just trying to keep up with what is obviously a job for many people. We saw that the entire hotel was filthy; we knew asking for a new room would have been futile, and assumed that we could speak to corporate without being patronized about what we “should” have done. That, and the fact that, well, it’s “COVID,” and so this is just the new norm.
I’m sick and tired of COVID being the go-to excuse whenever service is horrible. If your hotel is not staffed enough to ensure a CLEAN experience at a MINIMUM, then you ought not be open. The lack of breakfast services (which wasn’t mentioned when we booked the hotel), lack of cleaning, and even the lack of towels was blamed on COVID (there’s a big sign on the check-in desk); meanwhile all the guests are staying in literal filth and that’s acceptable?
I’ve done a LOT of traveling, and I’m by no means a hospitality snob. I’ve stayed in all manner of hotels in many states and countries; I’ve stayed in some of the lowest run motels in a pinch. This, my friends, is the DIRTIEST experience I’ve ever had. Bar NONE.

Read morePlease help this go viral !! This is an act of racism at its finest. Me and my fiancé took my daughters on a short vacation to Baymont hotel in Portage Indiana. The minute we got there we could tell we wasn’t welcome . We Asked for towels they told us it wasn’t anymore than the next minute I’ll see a person of there race walking to there room with a stack of towels, every minute room service and other employees will walk past our room and attempt to peak inside but when we called room service to actually serve us they would respond till at least an hour later. The next morning I left to go to church and when I came back my fiancé was sittting in front of the hotel with my 3 daughters watching them cry . When I ask what happen my daughters said the manager kick us out. My fiancé said first she try to say the room smelled like weed than when my fiancé told her it’s was no drug in the room Managment than said we destroyed the room and she charged us $150 So I proceeded to the front desk to find out what was going on . After standing there waiting on assistants for over ten minutes one of the assistance managers came to the front. I told her we don’t have weed and we’re on a vacation with our daughters. She than said “ your girl friend is reckless and gettho she destroyed my pillow case and two towels ! I asked how. She said because hair dye from her fake hair (wig) got on my pillow case and towels, there’s weave threads in the jacuzzi. I said Mam she is black if her hair or wig gets wet it’s normal to bleed a bit but it was and accident. She looked at me and said I know you don’t want to get the police involved you look like your already in enough trouble . I said call the police now I’m not going no where till I talk to them . Long story short the police came and illegally searched my car and the room and found nothing or smelled nothing . Remind you all this trauma is going on while my 2,4 and 7 year old kids are watching. Finally the police say your are free to go we don’t smell weed in the room and we didn’t have any in our possession the hotel can’t fine you for weed have a good day. Now almost a week later and they still haven’t refunded our money. And every time I called they hang up on me or say your not getting your money back your paying $150 for two pillow cases and two towels . So now I’m left with no choice but to foul a civil law suit. I hate my family had to experience this but I will push toward...
Read moreIf I could leave zero stars, I would, but the fact that we are receiving a full refund, as well as the pleasant staff we dealt with makes it worth giving them one star.
When we arrived at 1am after a 14 hour drive, I expected much more after seeing the outside of the building at night. The creepy man leering at me in the parking lot while smoking on the curb next to the side door should have been an indicator that this wasn’t going to be a good evening.
Upon walking in, you can tell that rating it a two-star hotel is a stretch. The night time front agent was very pleasant and checked us in relatively quickly. That was the only decent part of the entire twenty minutes we stayed at the property.
After getting to the second floor, the smell of marijuana hit us like a ton of bricks in that horror movie style, dingy and dimly lit hallway. It was like the exorcist meets cheech and Chong. When we got to the end of the hall where our room was, the we had to swipe the keycard multiple times to get the light to turn green, then still force the door open. The room made the hallway smell nice. It was like someone peed in an ashtray then spilled it on the already stained carpet. Did I mention we had the deluxe king room? The curtains looked nicotine yellow and wrinkled, and the AC blasted us with a mildewy, hot milk scent. The couch had weird dark stains that matched the ones on the carpet. The bed was made nicely, but the pillows smelled like someone tried to cover the mold scent with febreze. The bathroom made my skin itch and I wouldn’t shower in that tub without sandals on.
Like I mentioned, we literally checked out twenty minutes later to go somewhere else, and only stayed that long because that’s the amount of time it took for us to repack the car (and get leered at AGAIN by the chain smoking weirdo outside) and let the front desk know it was absolutely unacceptable, especially for the price we paid.
We had to wait until morning to confirm that we were refunded, and the daytime agent on the phone was super helpful and accommodating. The people are great, friendly and pleasant, everything else was not. Definitely would not recommend, even if you have the lowest...
