I stay in the Portland area at least once per week as I live in Central Maine and travel to our corporate office every week which is in Falmouth. I have stayed at multiple Hilton's all over the New England region and beyond and this was by far the worst stay, in which I paid a premium for thinking it would be a nice change. The other properties stand by the Hilton modo which I have to say this one does not. The check in associates were ok but couldn't be heard above the noise of the drills and hammers in what they were trying to tell me. This is the first time I have written a review but felt it needed to be said. I respect construction as that is the industry I'm in, but the team members I saw working were very unfriendly during a busy check in time, had dust, ladders and debris everywhere and most importantly entry mats rolled up and pushed to the side which presented a huge trip hazard and lawsuit for Hilton. I, in addition had to move construction cones just to be able to park and when I brought this up to the front desk they said there should be plenty of parking. The room was musty and the towels had an odd unpleasant odor once they got wet or steam from the shower. The walls are thin and heard multiple people outside the door even late at night. I travel solo so look for an establishment I can go downstairs and have a meal so as to not travel out and will say the staff at the restaurant was very nice. I read multiple reviews (after the fact unfortunately) and was disappointed in what management had as a response so this prompted me to comment. As I said construction, so have team members that travel as well and have corporate accounts set up with other Hilton establishments in the area that have been excellent but will not add this one to our list. I am not a complainer but thumbs down...
Read moreAlthough the location of Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport is convenient in proximity to the Portland International Airport, the service I experienced, at all levels, was distasteful.
Typically there are three things I look for prior to making a hotel reservation: location, cleanliness and price. This hotel met my typical three requirements, it was in a convenient location, it was clean and the price was relatively inexpensive.
As a pretty low-maintenance individual, previously, service didn't rate top priority for me.
While staying at the hotel, I wouldn't say that I was displeased by the minimal service I received, but following my stay, an unauthorized fee of $250 was charged in addition to my reservation fees.
When calling to question and dispute this additional charge, I was informed that it was for smoking in a non-smoking room.
Despite the fact that no smoking took place within the room during my stay and that I had not authorized the fee, they refused reimbursement.
In addition, during the dispute process, I was given the run around and I was not treated in a professional manner by front desk associates and management. In fact, they were quite rude, to say the least.
Hilton Garden Inn claims to offer their guests a Satisfaction Promise/Guarantee, yet in my case they failed to follow through with that promise.
If price is a priority for you, be aware that Hilton Garden Inn may illegitimately charge you an additional $250 fee, claiming that you smoked and then make it practically impossible to be reimbursed without the hassle of a small claims suit. Might as well spend the extra price and stay at a luxury hotel.
Hilton Garden Inn Portland Airport is a perfect example of a large company taking...
Read moreI paid $338 for a single night here, 2 queen beds. While checking in I was told if I have a car, I need to pay $10 to register it to park in the parking lot!! We were flying out early in the morning, so I chose to return the rental car. It was parked in their lot just long enough to get my family settled in the room and order a pizza, when I go out to the car to find out it's already been ticketed!! Before 8pm! This seems extremely predatory, and I'll never stay here again. Parking should be free for already paying guests. I understand the registration part to stop people from leaving their car parked here and getting on a flight. I returned my car that evening and gave the ticket to the manager to take care of.
The room. We had a single tiny trash can in the room. Big enough for maybe 4 coke cans. We were also greeted by 2 grocery store bottles of water with a $3 price tag unless you're a silver or higher member. Just wtf.
Best part of the place was the airport shuttle that got us out of there.
Edit: Disclosed or not, how can you justify an extra charge? Even only $10, HIDDEN BY DEFAULT under a "Show optional services" drop down. We're hit with fees everywhere for everything we do already, this is just corporate greed. Hilton Garden expects guests to know that self parking a car at the hotel is an optional service!
Edit 2: I read a few other reviews here and remembered that our bolted-in bottles of body wash and lotion were also empty after 3 showers, at 10pm. We were headed out by 4:30am for a flight, so no time to simply inform staff to have it fixed. I expect better from Hilton at...
