This is a cool little spot right now but over-priced; an interior designer and well-written automated check-in scripts alone do not melt my heart or bump value, perceived or otherwise. Premium toilet tissue paper instead of single-ply would have helped more!
Located opposite a gas station and just off the highway, you don't hear the noise of cars, and I slept pretty well. The cute town is on the other side of the freeway and not the most fun of walks. So expect to spend most of your time out and about.
The newness of the remodel means that you get what you see in the images for now - but those complicated window blinds will soon get battered and bruised by customers trying to block out the exterior light (not possible), and the interior designer's choice of floor rug will find multiple guests curling up those barely-stuck down edges in no time. Plus the use of hand-held remote controls for lights and fans just mean more things for guests to lose or break, and then swap batteries out of the (small) TV remote. Oh, and if you have gadgets, the floor-sunk power sockets are great if you like to bend down a lot, and rubbish if you have an Apple charger that won't fit the sunken holes.
The crunch and creak of gravel and floorboards that make up the courtyard outside - while pretty in photos and not an issue with only 20% occupancy - will soon become rude awakenings for sleeping guests or running kids.
I get the sense that the owners are interested in doing more with the space, and they probably aren't new to hospitality. Which make the pricing and some of the operational choices quite confusing. It's not a retro motel, or a boutique hotel, or a well-priced airbnb. It's just. Well, it's just a pretty enough place to stay right now, but no soul (yet).
The maintenance guy was nice though - he stopped to ask how...
Read moreUpdate to my review. After reaching out to the owner we realized that she has deceptive business practices. Buyer beware, please do not become a victim of her scams as we did. From our experience The Hotel Palomino is a rip off.
The Hotel Palomino is a cute, western themed property in a great location. The grounds are well kept except the weeds lining the parking area. It operates more as an Air B&B rather than a hotel.
Our room was comfortable and the furnishings were nice. We were a little taken back when we first arrived at the ear plugs in the room but pleasantly surprised when we did not need them and the property was quiet by 10:00pm.
However, with all of that being said, there were a few things that did not live up to our expectations for the price we paid for the room which was over $400/night including taxes and fees.
In-room coffee is Folgers instant, insulting for this price point.
After a long hike and on a cold, rainy afternoon, the shower water was only lukewarm which was a huge disappointment for an alleged 3 star property.
Storage space is minimal in the room particularly the tiny end tables.
One other item to note, Greenwoods Restaurant next door is wonderful but closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so if your stay coincides with those days, don’t expect to dine, or get decent coffee, at the on-site restaurant. Posting that information on your website would have been valuable information.
Overall we enjoyed our stay due to the beauty of the area. For the amount of money the hotel charged us, over $400/night, the room and amenities certainly did not match the price point. It appears to be a classic case of overcharging and under delivering. Based off of this, we cannot recommend the...
Read moreA short walk from town, nestled in the beautiful greenbelt of Ridgway, this small and quaint hotel embraces the authenticity of the culture and heritage of the small town. This is represented throughout the rooms, from the antique decorative pieces hung, to the wallpaper in the bathrooms and was felt throughout my stay. Considering Ouray County's slogan is "the right to farm," which is essential to the community, maintaining this where visitors stay is a great way to continue the storyline. For check in, the ease was beyond ideal. You didn't have to interact with anyone after a long drive day, you don't have to miss a check-in time period, or wait in line for a key. The only reason I put four stars for Location is to show clarity that it isn't on the side of the highway that IS Ridgway shopping, etc. But don't mistake the distance as a negative. There is a gas station(great pizza), dollar store and liquor store right next door. It is a short walk into town with much to see along the way. We passed the towns fairgrounds that centers the Cimarron's to the Sneffels mountain range with Ouray & Red Mountain as the backdrop, crossed the beautiful river where kids and adults were enjoying the cool water, and the iconic 'Tiny Town'. So cool! After talking to some people there, they mentioned a restaurant is soon to open next door to the hotel as well! I look forward to staying here again when...
