A hidden gem in the San Juan mountains that I wish I'd discovered sooner! As a local who grew up in this area, I'm amazed I never knew about White Buffalo until recently. My partner and I visited for Valentine's Day and were absolutely blown away. The food was exceptional - we had what I can confidently say was the best steak I've ever eaten in my entire life. The filet was perfectly cooked, served on a bed of creamy mashed potatoes with a delicious herb butter topping. The sides were equally impressive - beautifully roasted seasonal vegetables including green beans and colorful carrots. We also tried their appetizers - the fried balls (possibly arancini?) were flavorful and perfectly crisp, topped with fresh scallions and red peppers. To finish, we had what appeared to be a cheesecake with apple slices and caramel sauce that was simply divine - a perfect balance of sweetness and tang. The service deserves special mention - they treated us like royalty throughout our Valentine's dinner. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and made our evening truly special. If you haven't been to White Buffalo yet, you're genuinely missing out on one of the best dining experiences in the area. If I could leave -stars I would. We had the most bizarre experience I've ever had in a restaurant. We were greeted and seated by the waitress, ordered cocktails and from there everything went downhill. After we placed our order, she came back to the table 5 times because even though she had written down our order she could not remember it or read her own handwriting. It seemed like a comedy of errors until the people sitting at the bar tried to get their credit card back from her and she claimed not to have it. Another couple waited for 15 minutes to get her attention and be seated, they left after she never went to the table, they left after sitting at their table for another 15 minutes without being waited on. Mind you we were the only people seated in the dining room. After 1.5 hours and no food we decided to leave. I left cash on the table for our cocktails but the waitress insisted she needed our credit card. No way would I give her one as she still hadn't located the couple at the bars card. We had such an amazing experience at White Buffalo. My husband and I just moved here from West Arvada Colorado in October of 2024. We had a visitor from out of state, and we took him to this restaurant. Everyone was so amazing. The food was phenomenal. Looking over the mountains was incredible. The staff was welcoming and kind. How lucky are we to have this beautiful restaurant in our backyard. I had the filet, and our friend had the lamb. I believe my husband had the ribs, and we all had the prickle pear margaritas. Yum!
