Honestly I fell in love with this place when I first stayed her for a staycation, clean rooms, staff was nice except 1 lady don't recall her name but she's snooty but overall my first stay turned out to be a complete freaking headache to say the least!! I came in last night to check in to be told I had a outstanding balance of $411.64 I was so embarrassed and felt horrible for having the balance so I paid them in cash in full for my balance but found it odd because I never received a phone call from anyone explaining to me that I had a balance. I then check in to the room and decide I better check my two cards that I used for the first 4 night stay. Well come to find out over the last two weeks they had been charging my card for over $980. My total stay for the 4 nights was $761.64.. not $980!! Plus the $411.64 that I "owed" them. I then showed staff and asked for my cash back. They refused to give me my money back and insisted that they charged were pre auth's and they would drop off eventually. A total of $1,391.64 I'm out of and they say that money will come back eventually!! Needless to say I'm a bit confused about the whole situation and don't understand how a huge company like marriott can just keep charging my card over two weeks until they were able to take $980 in charges. I was offered a free night stay for the inconvenience which was about the only nice thing that came out of all this. I'm calling the bank now to make sure what they're telling me that they will drop off eventually is true. Which I have a hard time believing. General Manager Johnathan was nice but again zero help and refused to give me my cash back stating that I still had a balance of $411.64.. They're clueless as to how so many charges were made because they don't see them on their side! Totally figures. Anyways I will change my rating when this is resolved and I get my money back. Until then I don't recommend staying here unless you would like random charges pop up EVERY other day for weeks. Will update once all done and figured out. Beware though and one last thing they do charge$10 for parking which is completely ridiculous. Not one other hotel in salem does that. Not like there's...
Read moreI will start by saying that this is the only Marriot hotel in Salem, OR. For business travelers who want to stay on brand this is the only option and due to this fact, the owners or group do not put any money or resources into keeping this hotel up to regular Marriot standards. Almost two years ago they started experiencing issues with their central air conditioning. They supplied the rooms with temporary free standing air conditioners that are noisy and not as effective. I stopped coming to this hotel and started staying on the Hilton side. I decided 2 months ago to come back and try it again and sadly nothing has changed. Some rooms have central air working and others are still using the free standing units. I asked the front desk staff during two separate visits if they could tell me which rooms had central air and both times they had no idea even though the manager said they have a list. The rooms have dim yellow light bulbs to hide the fact that the doors are filthy, dings and big scoffs in the walls. Our one bedroom had the bed so close to the TV stand that to get to the bathroom I had to slowly walk through sideways. The pool doesn't look like it's been cleaned in a year. They said they check the chemicals weekly but couldn't tell me when the bottom of the pool had been cleaned out and there is a very noticeable thick film of scum at the bottom. The handicapped button for the front entrance hasn't worked in a long time and when I asked they said they are checking into it.
One would think even if it's the only Marriot in town that the owners would be time, effort and money keeping this hotel nice for their customers. This is my last stay at this hotel. The front desk staff id always nice and seem to feel bad about the conditions of this hotel. This is probably one of the worst Marriots I've stayed at. It's not worth getting your points by...
Read moreStayed here visiting family over Thanksgiving. We stayed in a queen 1 bedroom suite. Overall the room was decent. Can tell it's an older hotel that was remodeled. Nice to have a fridge, didn't use the other kitchen amenities. Bed was decently comfortable. The tub looked like it had some stains in the bottom of it and it looked like a wine stain (I hope that's all it was) on the floor in the bedroom. Also appreciate that it's pet friendly. Breakfast had good variety- more than just the usual assortment of pastries at other places. Hot breakfast items, cereal, yogurt, bagels and such. (Must have been better than what was across the street because my husband saw people from the hotel across the street walk over and help themselves to plates of breakfast food and walk back to their hotel) The biggest annoyance was I had called 2 days before our arrival that we needed a pack and play as we were traveling with our toddler and the nice girl in reception said she added it to our folio so it was noted prior to our arrival. We did the mobile check in prior to arrival but when we got there- no pack and play available. We ended up having to use the pull out couch bed which looked out of place in the remodeled room. Like it had been picked up at a second hand store and the cushions vacuumed. Thankfully my husband was able to make a kind of soft enclosure for our very roly poly toddler using pillows and blankets but it was definitely sketch. The original sheets looked unwashed and the mattress itself was awful. We requested extra, clean sheets because we couldn't trust what was on the bed. We made due, but it was definitely frustrating. Overall, it did what we needed but nothing wow. We will probably explore another option the next time we...
