I am a local resident! Business owner and I worked in this industry for over 5 years! I needed a room, with a pool, close by. Our reservation at the KOA had mistakenly been cancelled! I booked the closest place to the KOA! This room was about a half mile from the KOA. Up on arrival, I was informed they don't rent to local residents. Well, I booked the reservation with a Salina address. He ( who was difficult to understand and he was being extremely rude! I understand I should have read the fine print much better. I was just wanting to keep this 13 year olds birthday GOING! I informed the gentleman that another child would be arriving with Dad shortly. I checked in with 2 of the kids and one more was coming. I had 2 queen beds. 1 adult and 3 children. We went to our room, on the way, I attempted to ask another employee a question. I said Excuse me Miss, she ignored me. 3 times. She finally turned her head, said yes? I asked for my receipt. She turned around and kept walking as saying I'd receive it upon checkout. The dad and other child arrived. He did have two others along. (1 adult & 1 Xtra child) But just to eat dinner with us. Dad took the 3 kids to the pool, Along with another adult. The sign at the pool says no food. Dad had a thermal cup with a lid!!!! They were there 3 minutes when this male employee approached Dad and told them to leave the pool area. Get me to the desk now because we were violating multiple rules! I went to the desk. He immediately started threatening me. Demanding we leave. He was charging me the $250 deposit. For the kid I told him at arriving would be here! And having the drinks in the pool! I informed him that I explained exactly what I had planned and I am not at fault for the major communication issues. I explained that I was struggling to even understand his explanation of the rules at check in. He then said he had it all recorded. I laughed and said. Of course, everything is recorded these days. He then said he was calling the police. At that point. I smiled and said. Wonderful. THATS actually a great idea. I turned around and walked towards the stairwell and proceeded upstairs. The entire time he's making continued threats. About charging me the deposit and still charging for the one night and he was going to have the police remove US! I JUST KEPT SMILING AND WALKING. ABOUT FIVE MINUTES LATER, A KNOCK ON OUR ROOM. I OPENED IT. THERE STANDS THIS SAME RUDE EMPLOYEE, WITH A REFUND RECEIPT AND HE SAYS. THE POLICE SAID, LEAVE. I SAID WHAT? WHERE ARE THEY? I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO SPEAKING WITH THEM! HE SAID THEY HAVE LEFT. NOW YOU LEAVE. I GATHERED MY CHILDREN AND BELONGINGS AND DAD( SON IN LAW) AND I LEFT THE PROPERTY! I know SALINA police never come and go that quickly! He KNEW, I had stated very clear at check in ,( all on recording) who would be swimming, sleeping and eating breakfast. 1 adult and 3 kids in a room with 2 queen beds! I have contacted my card company to ensure that the refund processed! AND UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION OF OUR ROOM. A DIRTY BASEBALL CAP WAS LEFT ABOVE THE AREA FOR HANGING CLOTHES. CLEARLY THE ROOM WASN'T EVEN CLEANED THROUGH Note to self. Slow down. READ everything FIRST. Even a one night stay in a hotel room!!!! I am embarrassed for SALINA! I have been a resident here over 40 years! I also understand that some of the local issues have caused or played into the DONT RENT TO A SALINA RESIDENT! I WAS ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED TO LEARN AFTER LEAVING HERE AND ATTEMPTING TO SECURE ANOTHER ROOM FOR THE NIGHT! 3 OTHER PLACES( I NEEDED A LOCATION WITH AN INDOOR POOL) AS SOON AS I GAVE MY NAME AND ADDRESS. PRICES CHANGED QUICKLY! 2 OF THE 3 PLACES REQUIRED AN ADDITIONAL $200 DEPOSIT ( REFUNDABLE OF COURSE) ITS A BIT OF A CHALLENGE FOR US TO LEAVE TOWN WITHOUT ALOT OF ADVANCE PLANNING DUE TO MY BUSINESS AND ALSO RUNNING A PET RESCUE. I WILL SAY!!!!!! I BET MY GRANDSON WILL FOREVER REMEMBER TURNING 13. STAY BLESSED....
Read moreWe arrived at 4 pm on a 90 plus degree Kansas day. The AC had not been turned on and it took over two hours for the room to cool down sufficient that we could stay in it with a degree of comfort. I thought it was common practice to ready the room for guests by either heating or cooling it prior to arrival. (I had indicated our time of arrival on my reservation.) When I booked, I did not realize that there was no elevator in the hotel. We had a room on the second floor and once we arrived, there was no availability to be on the ground floor. This was clearly a problem because one of our family members has a health condition that makes stairs a dangerous proposition. I should have checked; I have learned my lesson to always confirm presence of an elevator.
The floors of the hallway and the room were sloped, uneven, and rippled. One feels a bit like you are walking in one of those bouncy houses...no big deal, but we did feel like we might be breaking through to the ground floor with every step.
The room had only one hand towel. For a two night stay and a group of three, we expected to each have a hand towel for drying faces, hands, and hair. There was no scheduled room service, the stated excuse still being covid, but frankly I think at this point in the pandemic, the lack of service is more a hotel preference/cost saving measure than a public health measure.
There was no breakfast, unless you count four sad plastic wrapped apples and a handful of oranges that looked past their prime. The internet worked sporadically in the evening, but the morning after our arrival one of our party sat in the lobby for about 45 minutes. He had informed the desk that we had NO internet that AM. The desk person stated they would reboot it. That said, over the 45 minute period, three more guests came and complained about no internet and during that time the internet continued to not work. It never worked the remainder of our stay. So, yes, free internet. If it works. It did not.
The corners of the bathroom looked like they had not seen a mop in months and there was a urine smell and stickiness around the commode. The shower head was only a couple inches above my 5'5" head...not so great for any person above that height.
The coup de grace was that when I awoke the AM after our first night there, I found two LARGE dead bugs in the bed where I had been lying. Let me just say UGH!
The room was definitely not udated, but it was quiet and spacious. We had a suite. It could have been a reasonably decent place to stay.
At that point, we decided to check out in the afternoon, paying for a second night but not staying because of poor accommodations, ESPECIALLY THE BUGS IN THE BED. We would sleep in our car before we checked back into this...
Read moreStraight up gross! Stayed 2 nights over the Memorial Day weekend. I'll give the guy working the front desk the first night into the next morning - he was at least trying as the breakfast area was pretty clean although the apple juice was watery and the orange juice had a funny taste.
It got worse from there - the room was not cleaned and fresh towels were not provided for the second night. So, that was pretty gross re-using the towels from the first night after our showers. Called for more towels, but of course none were sent up.
The toilet started flushing slow and even though a call was made about that as well, by the time we reached checkout on the 2nd morning, the bowl was nothing but yellow liquid and toilet paper.
The 2nd morning the personnel working the front desk was a complete joke. It looked like there a dude that was new and he was being "trained" by a women, who played the stereotypical role of a manger - that is stand around and do nothing. demonstrating more care for the cigarette that's in your hand that you can't wait to smoke than for the person you are training OR your guests.
The 2nd morning the Breakfast area featured the following: BOTH the apple and orange juices being watery, trash cans with no liners, and the entire floor was sticky from the waffle maker and syrup from parents who can't control their kids.
I'll stay in a Motel 6 or a "by the hour" motel before staying at this...
