When I retired a year ago, I decided to buy a Class A motorhome and drive over to the west coast of Florida to be near my daughter, who attends FGCU. The first place I went to in Ft Myers was nightmarish, so keeping things positive, I'll keep that place's name to myself. Blueway RV Park felt peaceful from my initial engagement with Daisy in the office, to now, 10 days later. It's almost too peaceful and quiet. You can hear a pin drop at night. It's a family friendly place, and kids are well-behaved, respectful, and just being kids. I found the most awesome place, close by and caught the biggest blue claw crabs I've ever seen. I just got back from the little putting green they have in the back. Laundry facility is nice. The pools are nice and well kept. They obviously take pride in the property. I got yelled at for speeding once. I was hurrying back to see the ballgame on TV and oops. I read in some other reviews that the WIFI was weak here. That may or may not be true, but I simply purchased more hotspot data from my provider. I like finding solutions and something like WIFI is a minor detail and a service I'll happily pay for. Especially with what this place offers.

POST HURRICANE REVIEW: Accepts children: Florida travel tip. Really hard to find an open RV campground that isn't 55+ . This was one of the rare ones that does so I was thankful for that! HOWEVER When booking, make sure they are giving you a spot that hasn't been destroyed! We booked over the phone and I informed that we would be arriving after office hours. They set up to pickup our site assignment at the bar-which they did. HOWEVER, they assigned us to a site which was still being renovated and was completely inaccessible due to construction equipment parked in the way. We called after hours number and left two messages and were not helped until morning. Luckily, they have overnight hook ups available should this happen to you. We were not given a refund from this mistake. However, once we were all settled in, we enjoyed the one pool which has been renovated and crews are working hard to repair damaged structures. Currently canteen and currently club house was not open but being renovated.

Highly recommend this RV Resort!! I have to give a shout out to Daisy at the front check-in center. Daisy was extremely helpful & very friendly & knowledgeable. Sites were very spacious. Lots of amenities, from two swimming pools, a hot tub, ice for sale on site, big laundry facilities (super clean with a mud skin which was great for scrubbing baseball pants) they have excellent pickle ball courts (they have paddles & balls you can check out at the check in center) putt putt golf, shuffle boards, really nice & CLEAN dog park, dog washing station & lots of dog waste disposal bins located all through the campground. We were in town for a travel baseball tournament & their location was very convenient to Jet Blue & Lee County Health Complex. We would definitely stay here again! Daisy provided a wonderful customer service experience that honestly has been missing since Covid. It was nice to be treated as a valued guest.

The good----------- It has a brand new pool that is absolutely gorgeous, along with being very close to every kind of restaurant you can think of. Groceries are no problem either, as you have a Super Walmart, a Publix supermarket, along with a couple of others within 1 mile of this place. You can get anything you want, within 2 miles of this place. The beaches are very close also, so you can access them without much fanfare.

Sounds good, so why such a low rating you ask?

The bad---------------- They have terrible drainage, and when I say terrible, I am not exaggerating. If you have any significant rain, you better have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, or odds are, you are going to get stuck. Their solution is for YOU to order rock, put it in front of your site at YOUR EXPENSE, lol.

I personally witnessed a 2 year old class A torch its transmission, trying to enter a swamp they called a site, and they are many in Shady if it rains. And if you go to the office upon arrival because your site is under water, guess what, lol. You are SOL, and your deposit is usually up in smoke, unless they have another site not under reservation.

WARNING Will Robinson, WARNING---------If you decide to give this place a try, make sure you have a surge protector! (some people do, some don't) If not, your electric might get fried. Loose connections are regular in their boxes, and some of the boxes do not even have circuit breakers in them, so it is all on your trailers protections, and yes, have been told about some of the systems in the campers of all ages getting torched. Also, seen some of the ground transformers smoking.

It is/was also true that of this last year, the plan was for them to start charging 5 bucks a day next season (winter season of 19) if you have a pet unless you stayed for 3 months, then it was a reduced rate. I wanted to ask if that meant that the owners/workers were going to follow you around when you walked your dog with a scooper to pick up the poop, but I knew I would get tossed with no refund, so I kept my mouth shut, lol.

For some reason, this place also loses water to the sites, 2 or 3 times a week. Sometimes for short durations, sometimes for LOOOOOONG durations.

And so, if you like Las Vegas and are willing to roll the dice on getting stuck if you don't have 4 wheel drive, have a surge protector for the electric, and are good politically and will never complain if you are stuck, or get torched, and are willing to put your money on the line knowing the odds are 90-10 you will not get a refund if you say anything negative, then this place is pretty decent because of the new pool, and easy access to everything.

Let me give you a little advice if you decide to choose this place------------- do NOT pay all 3 months up front, pay one month at a time since under the new rules, you don't get a discount. This way, if you get tossed, you aren't out a bundle. Tell them to hit your card on the 1st of the month for each month. This way if tossed, you can dispute the charge. That MIGHT give you leverage if you are stuck, torched, or do want to complain about something. If you call for a reservation and suggest that plan and they balk, then if that isn't a clue to you on how they operate, then read no further, lol.

In closing, let me say succinctly, that in my OPINION, the ownership is mismatched to a service industry like this. Were it not for where this place is, it probably would have been out of business because of ownerships attitude, and how they address their patrons. With a lot of luck, if you do go there, you will sign in, and never have to deal with them again except to pay your electric bill, enjoy the pools, and close proximity to everything this area has to offer.

But, if something goes el wrongo and you do have to engage in a complaint of any kind, you will find out exactly what many reviews on here have said, and as you drive or are towed away; probably with your wallet much lighter, you will grumble to yourself...…."I should have listened to the reviews!"

In any case,...

My husband and I stayed here from January to the beginning of May. We at first really enjoyed the park. The pool had work being done to it so it was closed which was one of the main reasons we booked a reservation at this park. I can over look that. However, I signed a lease with them in April to stay through the rest of the year. It felt like as soon as that Lease was signed everything went down hill. My husband scrapped small pieces of metal and aluminum that would cause such an overflow at the trash site numerous times with the help of Shady Acres staff members. I then received an email in capital letters "SHADY ACRES RULE VIOLATIONS" First, there was not a rule broken as it was never stated in the lease that garbage or metal couldn't be taken from the trash site. A Shady staff member gave him permission to take an awning and then lied about it. Finally that was straightened out when another Staff Member finally admitted that we weren't in the wrong. I didn't even care about that, but they accused my husband of being a thief. Marie from the office began harassing me and screaming at me for two days over this. After we opt to leave She sends an email stating that my deposit will be in fact refunded in full. Great. They have up to 15 days to refund per their lease. 15 days go by and I am calling to check on the status of the refund to make sure it was done as it hasn't hit my bank account yet. Marie was awful every time we checked on the status. They already waived their right to hold any part of the deposit and I simply wanted to make sure it was actually processed. They lied to me and told me that it was. Then I find out calling back days later from another employee in the office that it wasn't done and I called complaining again. At this point I tell them I want a receipt sent to my email confirming that the refund has been processed or I am calling my attorney. Enough is enough. Marie called my father in law screaming at him. My husband hears this and Calls her up and she denies ever contacting my father in law or saying anything negative or rude to him. So my dad just lies right? Marie is extremely unprofessional and rude. The Shady Staff Members lie for each other thank god my issue was resolved. I will never recommend this place to any one and I definitely will make sure the word is...

It gets 2 stars because of Jenni. If I could rate Jenni as an individual - she would get 5 stars. She is an excellent employee there and Shady Acres/Cove should be lucky to have her. Now for Chad....if I could rate him as an individual it would be one star (can I give zero here?). And he is the manager!! He is very off putting in person. When we went in for our walk through to possibly move in - he was very negative, had very poor body language, and horrible communication skills. We overlooked it because Jenni was so great. Needless to say, after letting them know everything, needing to secure a place to stay ASAP, and giving my credit card to pay for our own background checks, Chad emailed me and stated it would not work because of my American Bulldog. I am not sure why we got this far along with not being told this. I believe things happen for a reason and now we are reserved, for the year, in a very nice and renovated RV park where my baby girl is more than welcome. They also did not make us jump through all of these hoops. Our site is HUGE with plenty of room and fully concreted. My husband and I do not understand why, at Shady Acres/Cove, they squeeze all of the long term guests into these older, little sites and reserve the nice bigger sites for short term travel guests. It seems backwards to us. The park has a ton of potential but they really do need to lose Chad during this transformation. You are probably losing the people Jenni can't save if he is involved. We wish the very BEST to Jenni and her new role at the park. She really is an asset. This review is meant to save the next person time. We know there are rules, and we would have been the ones to abide by them and volunteer our time to this park. Now we will somewhere else. Since this park is under new ownership, maybe they will take a look at who is managing their newly acquired park and start to see why it is poorly kept. Yes, it's older and needs a facelift. But there are other things that can be done to keep it cleaned up.

Takeaway - Jenni is the BEST! And we would have loved to suck up the downfalls in order to be a part of the group to make it better. But, Chad is the...
