I stayed a night, as they only had one room available for the Friday night. The next day they told me there is space until Monday (which was how long my travel insurance covered my stay) - so I asked to stay the Saturday-Sunday too, as well as Sunday-Monday night. They asked me do I want that they just charge the same card - sure, and all seemed okay, off I went to my room. Got an email confirming two more nights. This was Saturday morning before my checkout time.
The following day at noon (Sunday morning), the front desk comes knocking on my room that I need to leave. I get confused, and try to make sense of the situation. Front desk starts yelling at me, does not listen to me, admits there has been a mistake they have made for double booking/not booking me my third night as ahgeed upon, but accuse me of it.
They call the owner apparently, while I am trying to find new accommodation through my travel insurance - I had injured a leg and was staying a few nights for rest. The manager/owner comes yelling at me that I have made front desk upset and I am reaponsible for the mistake? They get sheriff (seemingly a friend of them - talked behind my back laughing) to escort me out, like I would be a criminal for a mistake they made by not booking Sunday night for me as agreed on. Sheriff does not listen to me either - not their problem, which I do understand. What I do not understand is, that the hotel made a mistake, but decides to get mad at me while I am trying to make sense of the situation. I wonder how many other people these people have been very mean to, for their own mistakes.
Like, if you would be woken up at midnight that you need to leave, you are not immediately ready - your stuff is all over, unfinished projects laying around which you meant to complete in the morning. They did try and make me reserve from another hotel, but they were jumping all over different places from cussing me and past guests out, to calling other hotels not even knowing how many more nights I need to stay and for how many people. I also had my partner arriving the same day, they would not listen to me explaining why I would need the room to be the same standard it was, and closer to walk to because of my injured leg. The owner as I was being escorted out claimed they love PCT hikers and I explained that even if they feel I am at fault, I am not to be mistaken to represent ALL of the hikers. They seemed to get it, surprisingly enough. I would still not recommend this place solely because of the management style and how some employees are allowed to treat customers.
Absolutely unforgivable behavior. A traumatizing experience - I suffer from PTSD due to past other issues already, have TBI, and cannot respond to stressful situations well due to anxiety/panic disorders. I could not help but try and explain the situation as well as I could in the situation, tried to ask front desk and manager to calm down to not trigger me further, but they were only pushing their agenda yelling louder and more obscene things, that I am wrong and I am responsible for their mistake (which they both admitted they made!). I was mostly able to keep my cool, but I do apologize to any present guests and staff that I am not fully capable to control my stress responses - which I tried to explain to them.
No wonder there is a "now hiring" sign outside.
Aside from the above two people (or three if you count the sheriff), rest of the staff contacts I had from kitchen to cleaning and other front desk were very welcoming and accommodating, genuine people. Breakfast was nice although busy each morning you needed to wait for tables to free up. Allergies were accommodated well!
What comes to my room - 194 dollars for a room/night without any privacy. There was a door between my tiny room and the next room which was locked. Heard all sorts of sex sounds, uncomfortable conversations and tv sounds. I understand that this is a historic building, but it seemed a bit much - it was a busy weekend though. So all cars and other vehicles and sounds from the...
Read moreTwo-night stay at Julian's Gold Rush Inn had to have been one the BEST times my Wife and I have had the Pleasure of enjoying. Cozy, nostalgic and the best getaway to experience the Beautiful small town of Julian and it's Hospitality. Greeted by Chris with the UTMOST SINCERE FRIENDLINESS immediately removed any doubt we may have had since it was our First Stay. The incredible First IMPRESSION was followed by two days of the MOST RELAXING and MUCH NEEDED TIME to SPEND TOGETHER. The place only has 16 Rooms with a separate Honeymoon Suite/Room. It is an old Building and the rooms are Small with NO elevator, so prepare yourself for that when checking in and out. BREAKFAST is served between 8am-9:30am and you are asked if you have dietary allergies or preferences. This is NOT A BUFFET and you DO NOT ORDER from a MENU. The Breakfast was AMAZING as we had Eggs Florentine on first morning and Waffles the second as the main entree'. Both days began with beverage (coffee, tea, juice), a multi-grain cereal, yogurt and fruit. It was served by a host employee, we had the pleasure of having Lisa serve us and she was just as friendly as Chris. We shared a table that sat four each day with a different couple and made for great conversation. The room’s bathroom was small but efficient and there was an extra bathroom upstairs for all guests if needed. Two areas provide games and puzzles as the sounds of old 40's Big Band music played softly in the background creating a relaxing atmosphere. We WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK but most of ALL we will ALWAYS RECOMMEND FRIENDS and...
Read moreCountry western decor of rooms and public places. Squicky floors and thin walls (if you are on the 1st floor, you can hear every step from the room above). Lots of books and board games. NO TVs! Wifi is ok, but sometimes slow. Breakfast menu has no choices - all mostly sweet and unhealthy items, at least for me. But the server tried her best to accommodate my diabetic needs and cooked me some eggs which i highly appreciated. Packaged teas, americana coffee, cold milk, lots of sweets. Breakfast from 8 to 9 am. After that the living room is closed till 5 pm for tea time. There is a cozy sitting arrangements by the 'front desk'. Also, the patio and veranda, weather permitting. We stayed 2 nights and found sitting in the room not comfortable (musty and dark), though the bed was comfortable enough. Walking around the hotel will take 20 minutes to cover the downtown area. Keep in mind that most of the shops are opened from 11 am to 5 pm, grocery 8 am till 7 pm. Most restaurants closed at 8 pm. We tried three if them and found the best meal at th he Lake Cuyamaca restaurant (9 miles drive). Julian Grill was the second. The shops on the main streets have lots of souvenirs made in china and other countries, not too many locally. 'Apple pie is life' seems to be a slogan here. Apple cider and honey also main products. Lots of pies making places. The only winery opened for wine tasting is 2 miles drive. As for little boutiques, Katy's dress shop was the best to my taste as well as the beads place next door. Our two days get away was enjoyable in this...
