My daughter and I stopped in here finally when we were over in Julian and we have found our new favorite Julian spot! It’s an all plant based cafe and it’s truly delicious. I can’t wait to go back.
The service was amazing, the person who took our order, Fay, was so fun and sweet, and she did an amazing job! The first impression was excellent and I love that.
The place is clean, comfortable, welcoming and beautifully decorated. Good music, too, right up my girl and I’s alley!
She got the caramel apple pie iced chai and a cinnamon roll. I got the regular iced chai and a blueberry lemon scone. We are big chia drinkers and I want to say, theirs is amazing! Not overly sweet and perfectly prepared.
The cinnamon roll is the best I’ve had in years, truly mouth watering! I had a lot of feelings about the taste I got!
The scone was so tender and wonderful. I don’t prefer my scones warmed and this one blew my mind with how tender and delicious it was. Very good!
I am also thrilled to learn they kept the Pay with a Post It board the previous owners installed. Reading the notes and knowing people are providing for others in this special way makes me feel so good whenever we go in. 100% love to support businesses with fun and sweet things like this!
100% recommend you give this place a try if you’re in the area! You won’t disappointed!
We are back for round 2 a few weeks later, and I had to come back to this review and update. Last time we came for a snack, this time we came for lunch.
I just want to say that I’ve been a fan of vegan food for many many years even though I am not a vegan. I just love good food! So does my daughter, she has been raised in the garden and on flavorful whole foods .
Today she had the asada fries and I had the jack fruit tacos. The flavor and deliciousness of these dishes is remarkable. So many toppings on the fries and tacos, and so many flavors you might worry it would be too much, but it is delightful! It feels good to have such a healthy and creative option for our Friday Julian trips, Kali’s is solidified as our Julian favorite!
She drank a pumpkin spice chai, which was wonderfully crafted and balanced. She doesn’t usually do pumpkin spice but she was so happy she chose this drink today! I had a caramel latte, also wonderfully made. Devika also had a wellness shot, and reports that it was super good!
If I could award more than 5 stars to this establishment I sure would! All this great food, amazing drinks and then to meet the super nice owner Alex, who has good energy and that same wonderful customer service we talked about before.
Bravo, Kali’s! See...
Read moreWent in today and the owner and the guy barista were so rude. I was being polite when the OWNER was taking my order and she couldn’t get it right, but that wasn’t a big deal. Got one part of my order and they did it wrong and the guy barista was basically saying “not my problem” and basically saying to go back up to the register to talk to the owner about the mix up. She literally opened the cup and squirted the vanilla syrup instead of making a new one. Not to mention, they served it cold! The coffee wasn’t even hot at all. I asked for a refund on my whole order because they were giving bad service to EVERYONE. And i was being super nice about it. The OWNER was trying to refuse the refund at first and giving me excuses and was getting upset and was raising her voice. She then yelled so loud that the whole shop was looking at her crazy. She kept saying “we’re open for you guys on christmas BE GRATEFUL!!” like honey i never was being ungrateful. I just wanted a refund for your bad terrible service. If your business is too broke to be closed for christmas day just say that. I’m not a karen at all. I’m always mindful of customer service employees because I am one. But when you can’t even get an order right, can’t serve right, and can’t even focus on your customer when they are speaking is ridiculous. The guy barist was also so rude yelling at everyone to sit down or go outside. No please and no thank you. Not to mention the owner locked everyone in because she didn’t want to serve anyone anymore. I understood that they were under a lot of stress but don’t be yelling out how we should be grateful your open when YOU chose to be open. Not to mention she started cussing me out when I never said one bad words to her. That says a lot. Anyways,...
Read moreSmall family run vegan Cafe. I am not vegan but lean vegetarian/pescatarian. Small but very interesting menu. My wife and I shared a plate of jackfruit tacos and "tofu yakisoba". Both were exceptionally good. The tacos had mangos and a chipotle crema sauce that went really well with the jackfruit and corn tortillas. It wasn't even too spicy for my wife who has a low tolerance. The soba noodles and tofu were great with a pleasant amount of mixed veggies like broccoli and pea pods for crunch. Really nicely spiced with well prepared tofu with a decent amount of crisp to it. Apparently the eggplant lasagna is a favorite as many other regulars were getting that and they sold out while we were there. Interior is small but decorated well with quite a bit of seating outside. We spoke with someone who was presumably the owner and she was really great... Describing in detail and with enthusiasm what went into our dishes. We'll definitely be returning on future...
