I regret to say that our stay was an absolute nightmare. While the property looks charming from the outside, the actual experience left much to be desired. Our visit left us disappointed, frustrated, and eager to leave. We arrived at the hotel around 4am. I had paid for the night before we arrived just in case. The gentleman at the front desk who checked us in was polite and helpful. Everything else was a letdown. The room was much smaller than I had expected. The floor tiles were missing in several spots. The bed was incredibly uncomfortable. Every time one of us moved, the bed creaked loudly, as though it was about to collapse. The mattress itself was lumpy, and we could feel every spring digging into our bodies, making it impossible to rest properly. To make matters worse, we discovered that the drawers were full of items left behind by previous guest, it suggested that the room had not been properly cleaned or prepared for new guests. there was a musty, unpleasant odor in the air as well. Since it was late we decided to address the issues in the morning. Our first few hours at the hotel were uncomfortable, but things only got worse that night. After a long day of activities, we returned to the hotel around 10pm, thirsty and exhausted. We asked for drinking water, and the front desk informed us that there was no water available until breakfast time. Water should be a basic amenity available at all hours. I resorted to ordering a bottle via Uber Eats. When the delivery arrived, the order was incorrect—there was no water included. I was freezing cold, even though the air conditioning was set to a temperature of 70°F. I requested a blanket/ room switch & was told that no other rooms were available but was given one extra blanket. Around 4am, I had a vivid dream in which I saw a man pacing back and forth at the foot of the bed. The dream felt incredibly real, and when I woke up, I was startled to hear my husband yelling in his sleep, “I’m not moving.” He had been having his own unsettling experience. I woke him up, and he told me that he had seen a figure standing at the foot of the bed, telling him to move. I was terrified at this point, and as I shared my dream with him, we realized that we had both experienced something equally disturbing—though we hadn’t discussed our respective experiences until after the fact. My husband had no prior knowledge of my dream, and vice versa. We both agreed that this was beyond strange and unsettling. After experiencing this eerie phenomenon, we were no longer willing to stay in that room. It’s difficult to describe the feeling of being trapped in a room where the bed is uncomfortable, no drinking water, and now you’re dealing with what feels like a paranormal encounter. We were both deeply unnerved, and we decided to check out immediately. The combination of these issues made it impossible for us to stay another minute. At 7am, we checked out, but the experience didn’t improve. No one at the front desk inquired about why we were leaving, and we were told to contact Expedia for a refund for the extra nights we had paid for. We found this response to be dismissive and unhelpful. After contacting Expedia, I was informed that the hotel had refused to refund us for the nights we hadn’t stayed. This added to our frustration and has left me trying to resolve the issue with Expedia. At this point, I feel completely let down. Not only did we pay for a subpar stay, but the lack of proper customer service and their refusal to issue a refund has only added to the negative experience. I am still in the process of trying to get this situation sorted out, but it has been an incredibly frustrating ordeal. In conclusion, I cannot recommend Hotel Nest to anyone. The combination of uncomfortable conditions, and the eerie paranormal experience made our stay unbearable. We left the hotel feeling frustrated, unsettled, and disappointed, and we’re still trying to resolve the refund issue with Expedia. I hope my review helps others avoid the same...
Read moreWas a little nervous booking a hotel with so few reviews but ended up having a positive experience. If you're looking for an inexpensive stay in San Juan, I'd recommend this hotel.
The good: Very helpful, obliging, and friendly staff! Continental breakfast. They had some pastries, sandwich supplies, premade waffles and pancakes, fresh fruits, juice, coffee, etc. Great rates especially compared to the insane resort prices Still very close to old San Juan and other tourist attractions. I think our Uber ride up to old San Juan cost about $7 and took ~12 minutes. The hotel is also near a metro entrance. Rooms were small but clean and tidy. I saw no signs of any insect infestations. Great gelato place within a 1 minute walk Fun vibe
The not as great: The mattress was very firm. I had a little trouble falling asleep the first night but was fine afterwards. My husband has a bad back and actually really liked the mattress. No soundproofing. We could hear everything from guests unlocking their doors to staff chatting as they prepped breakfast. That said, all staff and guests were very quiet during night hours so we weren't woken up. Noise might be more of an issue during their busy season or if you have inconsiderate neighbors. No hotel parking. However - we were able to find street parking both nights we had a rental car. If you're used to looking for city parking, it's no big deal. Took us less than 5 minutes of looking to find an open spot both times. Just make sure you're not in a "no parking" area - the staff are very knowledgeable, you can check with them if you're worried.
Other comments: Other reviews mention fears about rental cars being broken into - I disagree. The area is definitely a little run down, but the hotel is next to a beautiful church and a police station, and I had no concerns about safety. There were a few homeless people around but they were quietly minding their business and that was all we saw, even nights when we got in late. If you're very worried about safety or need to have secured hotel parking, you may wish to book a room elsewhere, but our car was...
Read moreI will definitely stay in this very cozy, simple yet beautifully decorated hotel. My favorite spots were my room balcony, and the dining table on the second floor balcony where I ate breakfast with my daughter while enjoying the peaceful scenery. Costumer service was great. Handsome José (Joseph) welcomed us with a great attitude and a smile. Thank you Larissa for voluntarily discounting my bill since I was scheduled to arrive after midnight, but got there several hours later (other hotels would not do that). The staff is very respectful, helpful, courteous, and friendly. I loved the fact that the main door is always monitored and locked 24/7. You can actually sleep with your room door unlocked, no anxiety!!
I upgraded my room when I got there. The room was clean. I had to maneuver when walking not to hit the TV on the wall with my shoulder because there was not enough room between the wall and the way that the beds are placed. That is the only thing that I didn't like. In my opinion, that room should only have one bed.
If you are looking for the glamour and noise of the city, this is not the place for you. This place is quiet in the heart of Rio Piedras. I stayed for 4 days and 4 nights and slept great. Heard light noise only one day, which I was surprised because it was Monday. The Hotel opened its doors less than two years ago, and is still under development. I will definitely go back to this hotel next time that I visit my beautiful...
