It was a Saturday night, the night before Mother's Day. My son was taking the family out to eat for a Mother's Day gift to me, and he really was proud to be able to do so, being there were 7 of us( quite expensive). Upon walking in, my shoes immediately stuck to the floor. I understand it must be hard to keep up with having an all you can eat salad bar and dessert station, but this was a little over the top. I also took in the odor of old gease. The smell filled my nose even thru the flower smelling air mister you get blasted with walking in the door. The combination of the two smells is hideous. Anyway, I tried to get past it for my son's sake. As before mentioned we had a party of 7. They could not seat us together, nor could they tell us when they could, so they placed us in two booths, kiddy corner to each other. This was upsetting to me because on Mother's Day I would prefer my family stay together so we could visit. Well we bounced back and forth from booth to booth getting disapproving looks from other patrons( they where probably mad at thier experience as well not just us now that I think about it) as we tried to make a bad situation good. Then out came out food. I had ordered steak and endless shrimp with a side potatoe loaded. The steak was cooked fine only under it was an oil slick of whatever it was. The shrimp on the bottom of the pile was also soft with the mysterious rainbow fluid. I took one bite of the steak and ate one shrimp and pushed it away, not even wanting to continue on to the"loaded" potatoe made special with some grated cheese and bacon bits thrown on top. It all tasted just as the establishment smelled. I couldn't even try. But at least I got a never-ending salad bar! There was hope! No. Everything down to my ice tea was infused with this nasty order. The best I can describe it is week old greasy mop water smell or maybe moldy old greasy drains that haven't been cleaned for a very long time. I didn't want to make my son feel like he hadn't made me very happy with his great gesture on mother's day so I didn't cause a scene or even say a word, after all we where at different tables so he didn't notice i didn't eat! I excused myself to the restroom to try and compose myself, and surprisingly enough, the restroom was nice. Looking at the bill, he spent well over $200 that night plus a tip. I was, and am still, so disgusted by the environment that place had. The waitress was very professional and kind. Poor girl having to work there, I should have left a bigger tip. I do not recommend this resisting in fact, I recommend the health department go...
Read moreCompletely unimpressive from start to finish. 40 years ago my grandfather used to take the entire family to Sizzler for special occasions. A lot has changed. The guy who took our order had zero enthusiasm. We ordered our food (including the Malibu chicken and a steak), plus salad bar, plus drinks. The total was more than it usually costs us for a decent meal at a place like Texas Roadhouse (where I usually get a 16oz Ribeye and my wife gets their chicken ... so a comparable meal).
At checkout they suggested we could add more onto the charge so that they could give us change for a tip. Which is an awkward way of saying they want us to tip the servers. We were shown to our table and handed three toast wedges that looked like they had been sitting around for a while and had been cut and tossed in the basket with the least amount of care possible. We proceeded to the salad bar. I've been to much better salad bars. The strawberry lemonade ($3.50) was basically Minute Maid with some soggy strawberry chunks that clogged the straw.
As soon as we got back to our booth from the salad bar, our entrees arrived. I seriously don't think there would have been time from the moment we placed our order until the time the entrees appeared at our table to have actually cooked them. So either something was microwaved or they were pre-cooked and held in a warmer.
The steak was about the size of a hot dog. It was cooked OK. The seasoning was OK. Nothing fantastic. But the meat itself was stringy and had tough grislily fat. Just not a great piece of meat. For the quality of the meat, it was well prepared.
So far everything was pretty awful. So I went for dessert. They had soft serve ice cream and then ice cream toppings. The icecream options were Raspberry or Pineapple sherbet. So they had all of these icecream topping options like M&Ms, chocolate syrup, sprinkles, etc. to put on top of fruit sherbet. ???? The sherbet was about as good as everything else on the menu.
The saving grace was the brownie. Nothing amazing, but at least it was edible and tasted like an actual brownie. It looked horrible, but it tasted good.
The service includes taking you to a table (that you probably could have found yourself), bringing you your drink order (not taking the order, that happens at the register, just delivering it), and bringing your entrée (again, not taking the order, just delivering what you paid for at the register).
The entire experience was sub-par, the food was average, at best, and my memories of going out to a nicer meal with my grandparents and family are now ruined as well....
Read moreIt's been a long while since I've been to sizzler, and I thought it would be fun to take my kids there to try it, since they've never been.
First things first, we walk in and I'm a little shocked at the menu prices. The lowest priced entree is a quarter rack of ribs for $12, but most entrees hover around the $20 mark. And if you want the salad bar, that's another $9 on top of that cost, or $17 for the salad bar alone. However, I recognized that inflation is hard on everyone and we ordered.
The salad bar was decent. They had a variety of pasta/cold salads, jello, a soup section, some penne and marina sauce, bone-in wings, tacos, a soft serve machine, brownies, and the traditional green salad. The variety was pretty good on the salad bar, and I think I enjoyed everything from it (aside from the macaroni salad which I thought tasted kind of meh).
When our entrees came......well. I had a half rack of ribs and while the portion was MASSIVE, it was bland except for the sauce on the outside, and so very dry. It fell apart like ribs should but the meat was somehow dry, took ages to chew. My husband's steak and lobster was no better; the lobster was bland and rubbery, the steak seemed like not the best cut and was tiny. My older daughter's steak was about the same, and pretty gristly. The youngest ordered a cheese pizza off the kids menu, and she took one bite before refusing to eat more. Trying it myself, it was somehow both sweet and sour. We think we pinpointed it to the marinara but it was definitely not the best flavor.
The wait staff was polite, friendly, and fast. No complaints there.
The atmosphere felt......very dated. I would not be surprised if they hadn't changed a thing since I last was there roughly 12 years ago. The few people there were well into retirement age. Not that is a bad thing, but I got the vibe that nostalgia and a muted sense of taste was doing a lot of heavy lifting for the restaurant.
All in all, the buffet was varied and decent, and the entrees were....edible. Nothing I would ever pay $20 for again, or recommend to anyone. The last time I went here I remember the food being pretty darn good and having a very good steak. However, at this location at least, it seems like those times have...
