Noisy, dirty, and mismanaged. My room had a window facing the courtyard, which got very noisy in the early morning and was not able to sleep in after some late nights. If your a light sleeper this is not the place for you. Room was also not cleaned after specifically requesting cleaning and setting up a time. I spoke with the front desk THE MORNING OF 5/26 AFTER having paid an extra $100 above the regular price for an extra night. The bedsheets were clearly dirty and stained upon arrival and were never changed, this was now the 3rd day with same gross sheets. The room was never cleaned when i got back to the room in the early evening of the 26th. For $220 a night, i think that requesting to have a clean room and clean sheets is not too much to ask. Also it was the MORNING OF THE 27th when i called the front desk about the yelling and screaming in the courtyard. So not sure where you 'hypocrisy' claim comes from. When i kindly brought these issues up to the manager during check out her response was extremely defensive and condescending. Asking me multiple times if i “live in california”? and have you ever “stayed in a hotel in california”? Im sorry am i missing something here? when u set up a time to have your room cleaned it doesn’t matter what state or country your in. it should get cleaned. also if the bed sheets are obviously stained and dirty (not by me) those should be changed too. Get your attitude and your housekeeping together and take a crash course in basic customer service, or better yet, the owners should find a decent manager that doesn't racially profile their customers and treat them like criminals and scam artists. The defensiveness and flat out lies in your response below are a clear indication of mental instability.

In May were went to a family event in Santa Cruz and when we booked the room a couple of weeks in advance. When we made the booking we were told our credit card was on file from a previous stay in March. I found that odd that without asking, their system would save my credit card info. I never signed anything saying they could. At any rate, when checking out the morning in May, I went to the desk and asked if I could pay with cash. The clerk said my card had already been charged and it would take a couple of days to get a refund. I told her it was not a problem, handed her the cash. I said “I think the Hotel keeping my card on file for months after a prior stay is bullshit.” My tone was calm. Then without warning she stood up and yelled at me saying I shouldn’t use that language around her and told me to leave and threatened to call the cops. It was like a switch went off. I immediately walked out the door but realized a few steps later I was not given a receipt for the +$200. cash I handed her. The video of her reaction I am posting for this review was recorded for my own protection as she was completely un-hinged and figured the cops were coming. I ended up getting a return call from the manager a day or two later and she confirmed after listening and watching the incident on their video I was indeed calm and she apologized for the way her clerk reacted. She offered no refund nor did I ask for one. She did send me a receipt for the cash payment. I’m posting this review because I read a similar post on this site and want people to be aware.

What a wonderful experience we had here. Jennifer at the front desk went above and beyond for me! Employees are all so welcoming and nice, location is great & walkable. Nearby restaurants & stores. Close to UC Santa Cruz and not far from the beach. Beds comfortable, parking free, felt safe. Nice shutters on windows overlooking trees. There is road noise out front but it was quiet at night. Nice size fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Free breakfast had lots of choices. I'll definitely make this my go - to spot for Santa Cruz! It's not fancy, but had everything we needed and you can't beat the staff!

My fiancé and I came here with our two year old daughter tonight. We just lost our dog and it was pretty hard on our little family so we planned an impromptu vacation to Santa Cruz to lift our spirits. We found this cozy little spot and decided to stay. The gentleman and the woman that checked us in were so kind. We hadn’t been here for even two hours and there was a shift change or something like that. Well we were getting ready for around 11:00. Just doing our routine, taking a bath etc. We were tired so not to much talking going on besides our daughter doing her normal toddler talk. Anyway we had a knock and at the door and my fiancé (he’s a bulky guy, has an arm tattoo and rough hands. He’s a hard working, scruffy guy, but the kindest heart.) answered the door. A man said there was a noise complaint. We were kind of surprised because we hadn’t hardly made any noise. No music, no TV, nothing besides our essential oil diffuser lol. Our daughter wasn’t even crying or being loud. My fiancé said oh, that’s strange we were not making much noise but we’ll be quieter. The man gave my fiancé an awful look and said “Yeah? How about you drop the attitude” and I came up because I heard. I said hi what’s going on? And he got very defensive and got very close to my fiancé’s face. It caused a very uneasy feeling. It changed the vibe of our whole room and our mood. It scared me. Especially since we were kind of in a sad mood anyway and trying to be happy. Anyway, I was not happy about that so I called down to the front desk. I voiced feelings to the man on the phone and said that if it’s going to be an issue then we would like our money back and we will go somewhere where we can feel safe. It happened to be the same guy that came to our door. He said that my fiancé did have an attitude and he had a “look to him” and that he will just keep our money and we can leave. After I stood my ground and told him that we are not the trouble causing kind of family, he apologized but it wasn’t an “apology”. Anyway...we decided to stay because I knew he wouldn’t give of our money back. So here we are, my fiancé and I are whispering because we can’t talk any lower than we were anyway. So I decided to leave a review. We are Both business owners in SLO county that give back to our community and we have a lot of family and friends around the coast that travel around. We will make sure we spread the word of this place and I will make sure people know what is going on.or at least tell them not to stay when that man is working (I will get his name). I gave two starts because it’s a cute little spot and the first two staff members were great and so kind. But they need to get rid of that other man. We have never had an experience like that before but I guess there is a first for everything. There was Something very unsettling and emotionally unstable about him. Maybe he was having a bad day but something was just off. We actually were talking about giving an very positive review before...

The Mission Inn is pretty nice especially if you don't mind being assaulted and then told to leave because you yelled at the drunk guest who assaulted you.

I stayed there all of February and most of March. I liked the sauna and hot tub, but the Mission Inn staff didn't like me and they banished me today. I am pretty old and I have never been kicked out of any place, but ok, it's a private business, their prerogative. There's a first for everything, it's also the first time I was assaulted by a drunk guest in a hotel. In March a young man kept talking to me in the sauna, I told him I didn't want to talk, he kept talking to me. I complained and staff asked me if I knew his name and room number which I didn't. Apparently he complained about me as well. I did not make or imply any threat whatsoever . I encountered him again, same thing, so I stopped using the sauna unless it was empty. I started using the hot tub instead. It was nice. Friday night a different young man was drunk, drinking, offering me beer, playing loud music, singing. I tried to ignore him. He got in the hot tub and touched me. I moved away, pulled my legs in to take up less space. He touched me again. I said "Stop touching me" I did not feel safe, he touched me four more times before he got out of the tub, I thought he would leave, but he kept walking around behind me with his music blaring. Finally he turned off the music, began to leave, and began to speak to me again. I did, and I shouldn't have, In a loud voice told him in clear terms he better not ever touch me again. Yes, I got angry with someone who just assaulted me, had I remained silent I'd still be at the Mission Inn. The next morning staff told me to leave. They have it all on video. Yes, it was the definition of assault, he continued to touch me several times after I told him to stop. I highly doubt that the staff would provide me with this person's name or the video they have. So the Mission Inn is a nice place especially if you don't mind being assaulted by another guest and...

Came to stay here and the WiFi was super slow and none of the media apps on the tv worked. I asked for a refund and was told “you’re free to leave if we can refund you we will but I don’t know”. I asked for the manager and was told that they were gone for the day, at 2pm. I asked for something saying I didn’t stay and the front desk clerk told me “no” I then asked for the key to the room back as I’d have to stay if I couldn’t get a refund to which he replied “you’re DNR’d and I’m calling the cops” he told the cops I threatened him and screamed at him, neither of which happened and it’s backed by all the cameras in the lobby.

The “manager who was gone” appeared 10 minutes later and began yelling that she’s busy replacing the beds (she wasn’t doing anything the crews of men there working were. She told me to leave which I informed her that I wouldn’t be because he called the cops and gave them my name and description which only insured I stay on the property until they arrive.

2 cop cars and three officers showed up and I told them exactly what happened. After wasting an hour of time for the manager who couldn’t be bothered take 2 minutes to talk to me, she gave a refund to me. The cops told me “he’s asking for you to be arrested due to threats, I asked them to watch the surveillance videos. 3 minutes later the cop came out and said “all claims are unsubstantiated, you’re free to go.

The front desk clerk wasted city resources, an hour of the managers time and made it uncomfortable for everyone because he couldn’t handle giving g me my key back. This is by far the worst experience I’ve ever had. I travel for work and am in hotels weekly and have never had something g like this happen.

I would never stay here and have warned everyone I know of this situation. There’s a Hampton inn just one block up the road that’s way nicer, more amenities for the same price and without the absolute jerk at...
