May 16, 2025. After driving for 11 straight hours towing a trailer, I was in need of rest, and all of the hotels in Albuquerque were sold out due to graduation weekend and I would not have been legal to drive there anyway.
So I booked a room at this Hampton Inn.
When I arrived, the parking lot was basically closed and there was a sign saying the hotel was sold out. There was no access behind the hotel to pull around.
So I parked all of the way out by the street, and I checked in. I gave the description of my vehicle as a red ford truck pulling a camper to the woman at the front desk who had her 5 year old sitting up on the counter. This was at 17:00. No mention was made for a specific parking area for my truck and trailer.
I grabbed some food and was in bed by 6pm.
I had someone try to enter my room at 19:15 and received two phone calls at 19:30...all of which woke me up. The front desk asked me to move my truck and trailer to the unlit, dirt lot next to the cannabis store next store to make room for guests in the three spots I was taking up. I said, "no, thank you."
"Ok, then I'm going to have to take the necessary next steps."
I said, "go ahead and have your manager call me."
What proceeded to happen was: They called the cops to ask me to move my pickup, the manager (A. Aragon) said over speaker phone to the front desk, "check him out and have the police escort him out."
And at one point in the conversation, I pointed out to the manager that she was talking to a Hilton Diamond customer and her response was, "I don't care if you're a lifetime diamond, you don't get to be a jerk."
I could not legally get behind the wheel and drive...nor did I want my pickup parked in an unlit dirt lot next to a cannabis store with signs that said, "no parking. violators will be towed." I have no idea how this makes me a jerk.
When I said, "ma'am, you've closed down 2/3 of your parking lot. How is this my problem?" She responded with telling the front desk person to check me out and have the police escort me out. I ended up driving 3 hours to Gallup for the nearest hotel.
The absolute nonsense of this experience is...
Read moreThe location of this hotel is right across from a truck stop, which is not a bad thing considering there is little to nothing in this town in terms of restaurants or stores and at least the trucks stops (3) in this town offer something.
This Hampton Inn is a DISGRACE to the Hilton brand. I have stayed at numerous Hampton Inns across this country and this is by far the worst ever. This location should be stripped of the Hampton Inn name it is that bad. Where to begin, let's start with the depressing looking entrance and the front trash can that was overflowing. When I mentioned it needed emptying to the front desk clerk, I was met with a blank stare. Since I am mentioning front desk, there was NO welcome, no friendliness, and no ounce of customer service whatsoever.
The parking is strictly in front of the building, so if your room is in the back, you will not have a view of your vehicle. Now....for the room...oh my how gross it was and I will start with the weird and not pleasant smell. From the 1980s decor, with circus tent curtains that did not fully close (see picture), to the peeling wallpaper and buildup of filth it was downright disgusting! There was a weird splash of something that had been painted over, so it made me think of a covered up crime scene. The refrigerator was warm, not cold. There was a large tear and filth on the bench at the end of the bed. There was build up of crud in the corners, especially the bathroom and what was obviously dried pee around the toilet. The shower has apartment style doors with crud build up in the corners and a pinkish color of mildew in front. The door security lock did NOT work (see video)! The door deadbolt (?) didn't feel like it latched. To top it off, this hotel was the most expensive out of all the Hampton Inns in a five day trip! If you want to be ripped off, stay here. If you want to worry about security, stay here! If I had not been exhausted, I would have left, it...
Read moreFuture guests beware, this place reminded me of a condemned Sleazy 8 Motel that someone slapped a stolen Hampton Inn sign on. I stayed one night in March 2025 while traveling through New Mexico. The hallway was hot and dusty; the room was dark, dank, tiny, and smelly. The floors creaked and were terribly uneven. Roll a quarter from anywhere in the room and it would end up in the southwest corner. Additionally, they gave someone else a key to my room who walked in on me when I was in bed. Fortunately, the two men retreated with haste when my dog started barking like a rabid hyena. Then the desk clerk called to ask me my name, because they had no idea to whom they had assigned the room. She said she would call me back, to which I sternly replied, there is no need to call me back, I’m In The Room. Two days later, after I had washed the stench off of me and thought I could put the undesireable experience behind me, I found over $1,100 worth of charges on my Hilton Honors American Express. When I looked at my digital receipt for $165, I found that it had someone else's credit card number on it. Being the consumate Hilton Honors Diamond member that I am, after calling the hotel and experiencing a level of back office incompetence that is difficult to describe, I called Hilton Honors and gave them my unabridged experience (apparently they do spot checks on their brands when warranted). I had to call Amex twice; Amex had to cancel my card and send me a new one, as charges by this hotel kept appearing on my card, and I am now having to dispute the overcharges. If you are passing through on the 40 and it is between staying here or in your car, the car has my vote. If you have to stay there, use cash and don't give them your credit card. Oh, and double bolt...
