The view is spectacular, but the room was miserable. It felt like a bait-and-switch walking into room 35 to see it didn't match the online pictures at all.
I can understand that good hotel management will like to refurnish and redecorate rooms, but this was a downgrade, not an upgrade. The nice, decent-looking wooden dining set in the pictures had been replaced by a rickety metal patio set. The couch had been replaced by an uncomfortable loveseat. The wider spacious-looking dresser had been replaced by a tall narrow one. There was a huge print above the head of the bed that was in a monstrous frame that jutted out several inches from the wall--just the right height to whack you in the head and make sitting up in bed a dangerous proposition.
I am annoyed with myself for not taking pictures of the room, because the furniture in room 35 no longer looks like the pictures on their website at all.
The kitchenette is tiny, and guests are expected to hand-wash any dishes, glasses, and utensils they use before checkout or pay a $25 fee (it is not part of regular housekeeping duties). I would highly suggest any guest give anything they want to use a thorough wash beforehand to guarantee it's clean--previous guests may have been in a hurry to get on the road and done a careless job.
Other reviewers have already mentioned the thin walls and floors--yes, we heard plenty from our neighbors on the sides and above.
We were really looking forward to staying here after seeing the pictures online and reading many glowing reviews (9.2 average out of 10), but the only thing that appealed to us during our stay was the view. This place has so much potential with just a little TLC applied to make the rooms (or at least room 35) more comfortable, but after our experience with a room that felt equipped from a thrift store sale, we will be staying elsewhere in the future. We want a room we can relax in, regardless...
Read moreWe have stayed here 6 times in the last 10 years. It is one of our favorite places. The views are well worth the price. Lying in the bed and watching the waves crash from your ground floor room, leaving the sliding door open just enough to listen to the ocean as you sleep, watching the awesome fury of the winter storms, this is why we keep coming. As we get set up in the room I am reminded of why this is only a 2 star hotel. The building is old enough to have very little insulation in the ceiling, so it can get a bit loud with people walking/talking in other rooms. The toilet had splatter on the inside of the toilet which the man at the front desk come down to clean for us right away. Putting groceries in the fridge and there is old food that has been there for who knows how long. Pull the couch out a little to plug in our phones and there is a pair of woman's lace panties, oh and some moldy food. The corners and seems of the couch have thick dust built up. Time to get ice and its a clime up the stairs to the second floor. For the last few years we have said that this is the last year we come here but by the end of our 5 night stay we are so relaxed that we have forgotten about all the starting issues and don't want to leave. The staff are wonderful, they respond to every need quickly and are so nice. So even with all the issues that would normally make me run for the hills it doesn't take long for us to settle back and appreciate what we get from our trips here. Just try to remember you have to give a little to get a lot! Hope you all get as much pleasure from The...
Read moreDon't go here!!! It is a wonderful, not so hidden gem, and I want to have great availability to return often! We stayed two nights for some much needed respite from life. It worked!!!
Seriously, this place rocks!!! The view!! Clean & well maintained! As a horticulturist, I was pleased to see all the beautiful hanging baskets and planters looking healthy and well maintained. It's the tiny details that mean a place is well cared for. Noise can be an issue at most hotels, our neighbors upstairs & on either side respected the quiet time, and the staff we encountered where incredibly friendly and positive.
PS ... the loveseat/couch in our room was super comfy. If I had a shrink ray, I'd have taken it home with me, paid of course. The bed as well. I have head to toe orthopedic challenges and didn't miss any sleep or wake up hurting.
It is an older building. We discovered that using the microwave and the fireplace simultaneously flipped a breaker. Easy fix as the breaker panel is in the closet, and did not impact our stay. Less than 5 minutes and we were back to watching the fire and the ocean sipping hot tea with our feet up. We....
