Painted Rock Beach is a magical little place on the map. If you get the chance, it is worth the adventure. It is the perfect spot to put on any art lover's bucket list. There is small amount of public parking a little ways down. You will have to walk a bit. The entrance is between 2 homes. The area is partially accessible for people with disabilities. A wheelchair could go a little ways down. If you have balance issues, bring your mobility aid or cane. The warmer the weather, the harder it is to snag a parking spot. We went in the winter so there was hardly anyone out there.
It can be a cathartic experience to create a little piece of art and leave it on the beach. There is a reflection bench if you find yourself wanting to spend a little time there watching the waves or to sit and ponder life.
People from all over the world have dropped a little piece of themselves here. Some have left a comedic piece, some have left abstract art, and some have left memorials. People have expressed their grief, proclaimed their love, made sobriety promises, and lifestyle resolutions on these rocks. It is cool to think that thousands of years from now, these may be found and studied like we do hieroglyphics now. There are messages calling for peace, love, equality, and healing in many different languages. It is a beautiful collective expression of the...
Read moreVisiting this spot was actually quite fun. We didn't expect much from it. In fact we almost skipped it but decided last minute ehh let's just go see.
Parking looked scarce but we kept on down the road past the path from the residential area and curved to the right along a road next to the ocean and there was plenty of parking there.
The walk back is maybe 5 minutes or less. I will say, if you're looking on the beach you're in the wrong place. It's way back from the water actually almost right up against the houses in the rocks.
What made it fun for us was the humor on some of the rocks. It's basically memes on rocks. My favorite was this creepy lookin dude painted on a rock and it said "get at me baby girl". It was just so cringe but funny.
Also there was a massive Jehovah's Witness rock with their website domain painted on it. We buried it under a pile of plain unpainted rocks and gave it an...
Read moreThis was a cool little activity for the family. We love painting rocks as it is and we're super interested in doing this when we heard about it. We parked on the side of the beach and we're a bit confused as it's miles and miles of beach and sand and at first we didn't know where it was. There aren't any signs pointing it out or anything and no parking to get to it, as there's a little trail through the neighborhood that leads to it. However, you can access through the beach you just have to walk all the way up to it. Once you get over the hill it jumps out at you. There are so many beautifully painted rocks with inspirational quotes, amazing art, some funny, some cute, and we left our mark there as well. It was so much fun and my girls wanted to keep doing more and more and we had to drag them out of there lol. Definitely recommend taking the family for a day trip....
