There are so many different reasons why an experience at a restaurant can fall to subpar. Based on reviews from online sources and local recommendations, Osprey Café wouldn’t disappoint. I’m not sure what went wrong, because my experience was, simply put, meh.
I tried calling ahead to place an order for pick up. The person who answered asked if I could be placed on hold for a moment. It was the lunch hour so that was expected. However, I waited on hold for 6 minutes before I decided to hang up and waddle my way down to place an order in person. There weren’t too many groups waiting for orders outside. I able to do so immediately. I’m not sure what the deal was but I ended up waiting 25 minutes for a salad. By then I was really hungry and eager to enjoy a good meal. Sadly, it wasn’t very good.
I ordered a House Salad with Grilled Chicken (a salad of tossed greens, picked onions, Gorgonzola cheese and croutons with roasted garlic vinaigrette, topped with grilled chicken breast, $12.00) and one arepa (with chiltomate sauce ($3.25). First off, there was no dressing. I’m sure they forgot to mix it in or place it in our bag because the only thing adding flavor was the grilled chicken which wasn’t very tasty either. I ended up mixing in the chiltomate sauce that came with my arepa. Second, the chicken made my stomach very uncomfortable, the same feeling I get whenever I eat chicken that has a lot of preserving chemicals. Third, the arepa was so small! Personally, $3.25 for such a tiny cake is very expensive. And knowing what goes into making them, they could be bigger for the price. It was also super plain and not very good compared to arepas I’ve had elsewhere.
Overall this Osprey Café experience fell short despite all the raving reviews and whatnot. Maybe I just ordered the wrong menu item? Maybe it was a bad day, someone didn’t show up for work? I’m not sure, but I’m also not sure if I...
Read moreI was truly hoping for a great meal and experience here but was sadly disappointed. When we showed up we were told there was a 15 min wait for outside or 45 min for inside. We said outside would be fine, gave our number, and walked to the beach for a few min. About 15 min later we headed back expecting a call anytime. When we got back there were 2 open tables outside and some inside but we had not received a call. We checked inside and were told that there were still 2 groups ahead of us which made no sense because there were at least 4 tables open at this point. Roughly 45 min later they came outside and called our name. At this point there were 3 open tables outside, 3 open tables inside, and both window bar style seating sections empty. We were given menus and we sat down. As we waited for a server I observed 2 other tables walk in and sit down. Both tables received water and even a hot chocolate before we even saw anyone. Eventually the hostess came back to us and let us know although there were 4 servers working she was going to have to help us because they apparently weren't doing anything. We ordered and not long after received our food. At this point we realized we had no silverware. I walked the 10 feet to the counter where I saw a server folding silverware and asked for 2 sets. I was rudely told to go sit and she'd bring me some but if I was going to get up from my table to wear a mask. It's unfortunate I have to leave a 1 star review because the food was great but the rude staff, the lack of people doing their jobs, and waiting almost an extra hour passed the wait time we were given while many tables remained open was...
Read moreAn angel came down from heaven in the shape of a server. She played a harp in the shape of a breakfast burrito, and the music took the shape of well seasoned chorizo, crunchy potatoes, and the fluffiest eggs you've only heard about in tall tales being told by the ol' town liar down at the local pub.
What started off as a fast bite to eat, quickly became a pivotal point in my life- and we all have those of course. First graduation, first child, first marriage.... but have you had your first breakfast burrito down at the Osprey Cafe? Have you been served a burrito that will blow your socks off right into the chilly ripping oregon coastal waters? Have you been served by the lovely Michelle? (i believe that's her name. I was munching on that burrito so hard my eyes were watering and my hands were numb as if i was in a sensory deprivation tank so I can't really remember)
I've attached a few documents. Before and afters. The before is us crawling in as sick and meek tourists, naive hatchlings unbeknownst to the world at large.
The after... well that's after the breakfast burritos. That's after tasting god wrapped up in a flour tortilla grilled on one side so the fillings don't spill out.
If you're in the area and ready to ruin breakfast burritos for the rest of your life- always chasing that high, that dragon, that white whale.... Stop in. Get treated with genuine smiles and dignity. Take a look at the worldly money they have for view underneath the glass tables. And above all else, try a breakfast burrito. You too, could taste divinity- if even for only a couple of minutes in a small town off the Oregon Coast.
PS: the sauce was so good i...
