I stayed here for 1 night during an overnight visit to Susquehanna University. There was one aspect of my stay at this hotel which really pleased me and so I am happy to write a positive review.
Check-out at this hotel, like practically all other hotels, was at 11 a.m. However, during the one night I stayed here, I had a lousy sleep, in large measure because I had a large pot of coffee at 10 p.m. that night. I wondered if I could attend to my business during the day in Selinsgrove, and then take a short nap before I hit the road for getting back home. In order to get this plan to work out though, I would have to be able to check out around 6 p.m. I requested the lady at the counter the morning I was supposed to check out, fully expecting to have my request denied. I mean - who lets you check out at 6 p.m.? And yet, I was so surprised to see that the lady at the front desk was willing to let me check out that late, because as she explained, the room hadn't been sold and it looks like there were a couple of vacant rooms available and she would be able to oblige me. And that is exactly how things worked out and I was rested before I hit the road for my drive back home.
Apart from this exceptionally generous offer of letting me check out that late, I enjoyed my breakfast that morning. It is a cut above what you see at most hotels these days. A thumb-rule I often use to distinguish between places is whether the place uses paper plates or not and I am happy to see that they do not use paper plates for their patrons for breakfast.
If I am taking away one star, that is primarily because when I was using the desk the night before, I did not find it very clean. At some point, I took a paper towel and cleaned it myself because it felt icky otherwise. And the other thing which I did not like about the place was their AC unit. I appreciate being able to set a certain temperature and head over to bed without worrying about what “low heat” or “high heat” mean. That night I wasn’t able to get the temperature level quite right and the room was warmer than what I would have liked it to be with the “low heat” setting on. But switching off the unit was also not in question, given that outside temperatures were about 30F. Had I been able to set a certain temperature, I think I would have liked that option more. Now I don’t expect management to change their AC units out overnight; that’s hugely expensive. However, when they do change their units, I hope they will keep this feedback in mind.
Lastly, things do get sold out way in advance for popular weekends like Homecoming. As I was waiting to talk to the receptionist, I could overhear him telling a couple that all but one room had been sold out for that weekend, which was nearly a year away at that point. Therefore, if you are looking to stay here during Graduation or Homecoming, do make your reservations far in advance.
All in all, a respectable hotel where I would be happy...
Read moreWonderful experience! The Inn is an upscale chic hotel. We are in room 102. It is a handicap room making it a large open room. We had a king bed, two sofas, large flat screen TV, cozy room decor, a large walk in shower..very clean. We even had a little 2 person kitchen table, small fridge and microwave. The staff are all very friendly. Each one of them always greeted us, willing to answer our questions about local shopping and eating. At least 3 recommended BJ's. We have eaten lunch there 2x already. I decided to walk thru some of the little shoppes. Such a beautiful dat until I made a nasty tumble from the pizzeria step. After half the day at the Urgent Care..my ankle in a brace and crutches..coming back to the Inn and being able to maneuver around our handicap suite was convenient.. a bit bummed about my injury..but everyone has been so thoughtful and offering to help wherever needed. Each window is little by an electric candle..it hives the Inn it's curb appeal..warm and inviting. I would love to return later in the Fall even the holidays..a big fireplace is in the main lobby with a cozy setting area. The staircase holds a nice size library for those who are fond of reading. The front and back porches have high back rockers to relax in the Autumn and Spring season weather. I won't be able to do any exploring over by the river but look forward to some outdoor fun our next visit. Oh, each morning a breakfast is served in the quaint dining hall. It is a decent breakfast, especially for free. The afternoon and evening light snacks like cookies, donuts, coffee and hot chocolate are available for each guest. A gym is being built in the back..that looks like an added bonus for travelers. There are a few well known hotel chains in town...normally this would be where we would stay. The hotels were sold out..so I happened upon this diamond in the rough. Whether the hotels have vacancy or not..we will definitely choose our...
Read moreAfter a 16 hour ride from the outer banks i was very tired, found this hotel and had two rooms left so we booked one. Everything was great on the phone and throughout check in minus the part where he told me breakfast "is a thing of the past" even though it is listed on the website. We decided to order some take out as we had not eaten in quite a while. My food arrived without any silverware. Being in a hotel i knew they had some, so i went to ask but no one was at the front desk so i went to the breakfast area looking for some. At this point i was verbally accosted by the front desk attendant who must have heard me looking. He told me "you dont get to just rummage through our things" implying i was trying to steal or something. I explained i was looking for some plastic silverware to eat my dinner. He then said "and that gives you the right to do whatever you want?", so i apologized and told him "ive been in a car for 16 hours, i just need some silverware to eat my dinner and go to sleep." Oh but that didnt stop him from telling me i how rude and inconsiderate i was. At that point he showed me the silverware which i grabbed a single fork and knife and went back to my room. The hotel itself was nice, clean, and eveything you want in a hotel. Need to work on your customer service considering its the...
