Newly renovated, it looks beautiful...until you realize housekeeping is horrible. When checking in, Nicole was wonderful! Very professional, sweet and courteous. We were there the first weekend of January 2020, but got the flu so its taken a couple weeks to do this review.
Got into my room, a king suite and at first glance it was really nice, but after doing a small walk through (more thorough the next day), I realized housekeeping was slacking. The floors had not been vacuumed and tiny pieces of paper could be seen randomly through the room. The hairdryer had just been thrown on the shelf with no care. The remotes were not in the 'clean sleeves' which makes me think they were not actually cleaned. There was hair in the sink, the shower, and our bed. There was a dirty towel hanging on the back of the bathroom door (which I promptly called front desk, Nicole, and told her. She directed me to place the towel in hallway and she would pick it up, she did not and housekeeping took the towel in the morning and placed a clean towel on the floor in it's place since we had a 'DND' sign up, we left the towel since it had been on the floor). Upon further inspection, we realized the top of the cabinet had a thick layer of dust in one corner (the corner they couldn't reach). There was a toy soldier hidden behind the towels. The little sign on the sink was dirty and turned around so we couldn't read it. The air filters in the AC/heating unit had not been cleaned in some time. There was mold in the shower around the caulking and the fixtures. The worst thing though, cleanliness wise, was, I could see the handprints from the prior occupants on the headboard from their adult escapades.
The sheet for the queen bed did not fit, I suggest using a full sheet as I have found in personal use they have a better fit. The tv in the extra room did not work at all. Nicole expailed prior to going up though that it would not due to upgrading. I thought there was a leak in the window as well, when we woke up the amount of condensation looked as if rain was just flooding in, but only in the main room, the extra room didn't have a single bit of moisture even though it was warmer in that room.
Now Nicole had explained most the hotel had been renovated, except for the carpets. So seeing how bad the carpets were did not surprise me as much as the rest of the things did, BUT throughout the hallway with the carpet really needed to be vacuumed and cleaned.
The lobby outside the elevator (2nd floor), was disgusting and hadn't been swept or mopped the entire weekend we were there and seemed to get worse. You could actually tell it hadn't been mopped in awhile because what was obviously coffee spills were grey and no longer sticky. The elevator itself was nasty, spills and stains all over the floor.
The main lobby was clean and well kept, much better than the rest of the hotel. We did not eat there so no idea of the breakfast area or the food itself. Makayla was sweet when she checked us out, not as professional looking as Nicole, but I didn't care as long as she was polite and sweet, which she was.
I give 3 stars ONLY because of Nicole and the fact that you can tell the owner is trying to upgrade and make it look presentable. If it were not for that, I'd give 1 star due to the horrid housekeeping. I will probably be back in the future, I just hope these things will be addressed and I see a difference next time.
P.S. I love the soldier and hope that becomes a permanent fixture...
Read moreWhen we arrived it was approximately 2:30 p.m. Another guest was in front of me, the girl at the front desk went to check on his room to see if it was ready. She was gone for a good little bit. When she came back and finished checking him in and got to me, it was roughly 10 till. She told me my room wasn't quite ready yet, I told her that was fine, we were going to go grab some food. She said it'd be about 30 minutes. An hour and a half later, we showed back up an went to walk in the room only to find it still being cleaned. The HK stated he was almost finished and that we could come in the room, the front desk had sent him to another room. Everything in the room seemed fine. No desk chair, and I don't think the tub was cleaned because there was straight, brown hair all in the tub and on the shower wall, but my son had cut the shower on before I could get pictures. Yes, I cleaned it first and layed a towel down as well. No microwave in room, had to go to the breakfast area to use one, very inconvenient . Pool warm, not clear but okay, plus its 24 hours which is great and rare. Water in sink and shower wanted to backup for some reason. Around 5 the morning of departure, I woke up and saw that there was an attempt to charge my card, I had paid cash at checkin so I got up and walked down to lobby to see what was up. The lady at checkin never posted my payment. Issue resolved thanks to the girl doing the Audit shift (Hermine, I think, she was great, they both were actually very nice), but it definitely had me worried. Also, called about tv not working on night #1, girl said she had found another room and was going to check on it. Rode to Knoxville, expecting to hear something when I got back, someone was in room whole time and never received call. It was late , I was irritated and over it. Left early day #2, got back late, still TV issue not fixed, mentioned it to lady at desk . She said they were full and couldn't do anything about it. I work in a hotel, if I can't solve the issue from the phone, I go to the room, if nothing can be done, I move the guest, if I can't move the guest, I give a discount if they'll stay, if not, I refer to our sister property or help find accommodations elsewhere. All in all, just a bad experience, doesn't make them a bad hotel, just means there's room for...
Read moreWe travel quite often, so we know which chains are usually the better ones to stay at for our overnight trips. We decided last week to pack up and have our latest adventure take us through KY, TN, VA, West VA and return us back to our home state. Little did we think about spring break and the hotels being previously booked solid. With that said, we found ourselves in the Sevierville, TN area. We looked online and found a room at the Best Western Sevierville/Kodak Inn where the reviews were decent. We booked the room and headed that direction. Out of all the hotel stays we have made over the last four years, this one by far ranks a close tie for the worst ever.
First, we arrived after 4:30pm and were told we were getting a pet room (we didn't have a pet or request a pet room), then we were told the room wasn't cleaned yet and needed to wait an additional 45 minutes. (Strike #1). We arrived late so the room should have very well been cleaned by that time.
When we were finally able to get in, the room itself had a smell to it. Not fresh airy or clean, just a strong stale smell. (Strike #2) We turned on the air conditioning unit to get some circulation going. As we opened the door to go out and grab a bite to eat, the light shining on the floor from the hall showed where the floor had been not cleaned and was sticky. I thought there had been a sticky spot as I entered the room, but it was overshadowed by the smell and I didn't look down. (Strike #3)
After returning from dinner, we sat down to watch TV and noted a little bug like a gnat fly by. After swatting it, I thought that would be the last of it. Little did I realize the next morning, there were bugs all over the room - on the towels we used, the walls, and most noticeably after the sun rose, the bugs on the cooling unit and window sill of the room. (Strike #4)
From now on we intend to plan out our trips. My recommendation, find a hotel with a better standard of cleaning and extermination services to keep these things from happening. The other 3 hotels we stayed in for the remainder of our trip were excellent.
I have pictures, regretfully I couldn't post them to my Google review. I have, however, added them to my Yelp review to give potential hotel guests a real picture of what we...
