I had to post a new review for this current stay. As usual, I gave my son a trip to Southbridge HCC for his birthday because he loves the pool and the rooms, and I would be lying if I said I didn't get anything out of the trip, as I spend most my time in the hot tub while he swims all day. There isn't much different to say from my last review, as the staff here are excellent and extremely kind, the room is beautiful and well kept, and the pool area rivals any hotel in the area, which is why we stay here 3 or 4 times a year, to get the kid out of the house and have a nice mini vacation. I also have to add, the rates here are incredibly affordable as well. As you can see, I have nothing but good things to say about the hotel itself, and it would easily be another 5 star review from me if it hadn't been for one hitch. Thus stay is the first one where we decided to try Shades lounge for dinner, and it was underwhelming. First off, it's disappointing that there is no room service option, as I am in a wheelchair. Or rolling walker at all times, but I overlooked that as I was able to send my son down to pick up our food. My major gripe was the food itself unfortunately. We ordered a burger with fries and a clam chowder. It was odd I had to pay extra for fries with the burger instead of the chips it typically comes with, but dinner was still just under 25 .so I wasn't too upset. I was. However, upset with the burger, which was burnt pretty badly, and for some reason, the fries were Luke warm at best. It's borderline criminal for a hotel food service to not be able to make a good burger!!! All the proper ingredients were there, and the bread was nice but to char a burger and send it out dry and burnt isn't a good look. The clam chowder was decent, normal by hotel standards, just a little small. I wish they offered a larger size, even if it cost more because we are starving now, 3 hours later. But to get off the negative, this hotel is honestly great in almost every aspect, I would just suggest getting your dinner elsewhere. I wish I could give 4 and a half stars because I don't believe the food warrants the loss of a whole star, but it won't let me. Thanks for another great stay Southbridge Hotel and...
Read moreTo start off with the positive, this hotel was clean, beautiful, the pool area was wonderful, and the bar is reasonably priced. It is a massive hotel and accommodated our guests for our wedding that weekend (as well as many other weddings). The rooms were a little dated but very clean! The only issues I had with this hotel was COMMUNICATION. It was so poor. I would call the sales department multiple times, email multiple times with no return call. I finally would get an email after 4 days. (The phone calls and emails were in regards to room blocks, ect). Some of my guests weren’t even put under our room block but other weddings room blocks?? Even though they said our names. also, we were told to book an “after party” for our wedding since the “bar closes at 10pm”. In order to book an after party you need to spend $500 on food. So of course we wanted our guests to gather for an “after party” after our wedding which ended at 1030pm so in order to “keep the bar open” we had to do this (so they said). We showed up off the busses from our wedding to find out that the hotel staff displayed the “after party” food we paid for and it was eaten by hotel guests who were NOT apart of the wedding party. Also, the bar was wide open, lots of people, open past the time they were supposed to “close”. This was so frustrating. At check out we paid our balance for the rooms we paid for and we thought the food for after party. I guess the food wasn’t included in that balance and my husband and I left for our honey moon out of country. We were harassed every day via email to fill out a credit card form to pay the balance. However, I responded to their first email that I cannot fill the form out until I return to the states (I’m not tech savvy and cannot fill the form out on my cell phone, it’s a pdf that needs to be downloaded and edited). We still got emails every day to pay remaining balance. It’s also frustrating because we expressed our concern that we didn’t even get to eat the food we paid for because it was set out for all the hotel guests….. no compensation or...
Read moreWe booked an impromptu one night stay to go swimming. The pool/pool room was really nice. The hot tub was out of commission on our stay so we cannot speak for that. There was a big community celebration occurring simultaneously while we were there. We were able to enjoy some live music while swimming but I believe there is also music playing inside of the pool room at other times. We liked that there were plenty of towels available and a container to put used towels before leaving - the staff restocked towels while we were swimming. The pool had several depths which made swimming enjoyable for my 15 yo and 9 yo. The area could use a few more tables/chairs for seating but it was a nice facility and closing at 9 PM seemed very early, especially since it was not a staffed area. There were some children with terrible behavior in the pool that escalated enough to where one child could have been injured - perhaps a hotel staff member could have handled this if they checked in occassionally. All in all it was fun and we swam for hours. The hotel room was outdated but comfortable. A few things to note - there are no microwaves and they do not provide body wash (only very small shampoo, conditioner and body lotion). We would just plan accordingly for our next visit and it wouldn't be a deterrent for us. We were able to enjoy the courtyard while there were fireworks and the facilities in general appeared really clean and well maintained. Our kids had a good time! I spoke with one woman checking us in who mentioned she had been there for 24 years. She was incredibly nice and I overheard her instruct younger staff to ensure that the hotel guests were separate and had different permissions than those attending the community event (i.e., swimming pool and fitness center). This was so appreciated because the pool could have been incredibly overcrowded...
