Our experience at Metro was a mixed bag. We arrived for our reservation and were sat promptly, but as there was a much larger reservation in the other room service was very slow and lacking.
After being served water and some bread, we were left sitting with the menus for 40 minutes before our waitress came over. She was interrupted mid speech by the owner/manager and called away from the table to the larger group. We waited another 10 minutes for her to come back (not her fault, she was young and being pulled in every direction).
I understand that this place is meant to replicate the slower pace of the French Bistrot, however, as someone who has sat in many such restaurants in France, I’ve never waited that long to have an order taken.
The food, for its part, was very good. Simple ingredients, well prepared. They did give us a complimentary sausage plate, I assume to make up for the wait. We also got a “patience is a virtue” sort of comment from the owner/manager which we thought was strange as we did not complain while we were there.
To boot, the larger group cheered as we left and said “and don’t come back”. Now, I don’t know if this group is reflective of the normal clientele, but it definitely left a weird impression.
Overall, I recommend checking in when you reserve a table if there are any events going on. I imagine the experience is better when they don’t have a group of 20+ to wait on. I would only return if I could be sure we wouldn’t be clear...
Read moreAn absolute TRUE GEM! I lovvvvve The Metro Bistrot! A quaint little hideaway, French Restaurant, right in Southbridge! The place is Very small and not what you'd imagine, but the quality of food is OUT OF THIS WORLD, AMAZING!! I love how you can see the chef right there, cooking in front of you at the main bar, hence smelling the wonderful food while you wait. Everything was so fresh! And you can bring your own own drink! The appetizers already had us drooling, waiting for our main courses. I had the soup of the day (amazing!) and my husband had the ratatouille (sooo good!!).
The main courses also did Not disappoint. I had the Fish course. I want to say it was seabass that night. Whatever it was, it was cooked perfecrly and paired so well with white rice and peas. My husband's veal dinner was very tasty too, accompanied with ratatouille, rice and peas. The one thing we did agree on though, was that the veal or veal sauce was a tad bit too salty. Other than that, the food was through the roof, really! We definitely plan to go back since it's right in our neighborhood and is actually high quality food. The atmosphere was very relaxing as well. Pricing makes sense with this kind of quality food. I'm surprised it's not...
Read moreThe Metro Bistrot is a small, quaint restaurant that transports you out of Southbridge and into France. There is beautiful lighting, artwork and a generally home-like feel to the space, which is amazing, considering its location in a nondescript strip mall! The food is absolutely delicious! I've been there twice and each time the flavors were exquisite and the dishes reasonably priced. The couple that own and run the restaurant are very friendly and personable. They go out of their way to welcome each patron and, sometimes spend considerable time at your table discussing the meal, France or whatever suits you. Dessert is not to be missed! Delicate and flavorful offerings leave you feeling satiated, but not bursting at the seams. The only negative comments I would make is that it was very cold in there and I wished I'd had a sweater. Also, they have a BYOB policy. It seems quaint, however when my friend and I visited we didn't want a whole bottle of wine, but would have enjoyed a glass. Overall, it is a local experience that should not be missed! A literal "hole in the wall" place with a...
