I left a Google review with photos, but here is my review:
We stayed in a Choice hotel the night prior that was exceptional, so there was no hesitation in booking this one. There should have been. If you're a single female and/or traveling alone, especially with kids, maybe choose somewhere else.
To start, the doors are NOT automatic. This may not seem like a big deal, but it makes it tricky with those who may be in wheelchairs, etc. When I arrived nobody was at the desk but two employees stared at me, then each other, then checked me in. There was a unique smell that we couldn't quite identify. The hallways parallel "The Shining," minus the fancy. The ceiling tiles were broken, stained, and shifted, there were probably six rooms left open between the front and our room (that were still open every time we walked past including when getting ready to leave). The room is dark.
There's no light in the "hallway" when you walk in and the blackout curtains let in the light. There is a window bench that was a nice feature, there was a switch to turn that light on near the "closet" that we discovered later.
The room does come equipped with a decently sized fridge, microwave, and a tv with a fuzzy picture.
The beds were decent, clean, and relatively comfortable. There were only three pillows per bed so that was an odd number.
At one point one of our keys deactivated; upon going to the desk a young man reset it but the second also didn't work. We walked back up and he pulled a card out of his pocket and said to try that. I asked if it was a master key and he said yes, but not to use it in other doors. He was the nicest staff member we encountered, but that wasn't the safest feeling.
Here's were I'm going to sound a bit more negative.
The bathroom was a joke. The sink is nice and updated, but is too large for the space. So large that even my child couldn't sit without her body being shoved against the legs of the sink. The toilet paper is across from the toilet, far enough that the same child couldn't reach it. The shower was dirty, the complimentary toiletries are outdated and low quality. The shelf is crooked.
There were drawers under the aforementioned window seat, but they had bug carcasses and the handle didn't stay situated and came out with ease.
The windows DO open so make sure they're locked when you arrive. If you do open the windows be aware that the screens are all torn with holes so you will likely get bugs.
The flip-latch was there with a loose screw, so it wiggled all over, which was fine since there was no connecting piece on the door to actually utilize the safety latch.
The fixtures didn't actually fit in the places they were placed.
Breakfast was not out when we left at 7:15 am so I can't speak on that, but you can see the photo of the coffee pot from the room - we opted not to drink out if that because we're unsure if it has been cleaned this year.
In the end, it was a let down. Super convenient location, great price, but that's where it ends. The photos speak...

Read moreFirst time back this season and the comments below remain the same.|REGARDING ROOM 278: Nice room ...small but comfortable and (as stated below) USB PORTS and power outlets in the light fixtures. The designer sink and faucet is a nice update ...BUT....there is a maintenance problem: the sink is cracked and the faucet nozzle has a build-up of calcium on it which is unsightly. (You need to soak it in vinegar for 20-30 minutes and scrub it off).|The wall thermostat remotely controls the HVAC unit under the window bench...a nice modern upgrade. (There was a problem with the thermostat but the nice gentleman on RECEPTION came up immediately and replaced the batteries.)|A few suggestions for improving the "curb appeal": (1) delineate the entrances off the road as they are very difficult to see...and there are ditches on either side, and (2) a continuous clean up of the front of the building is needed, especially around the "smoking area" and the trash cans.|The breakfast offerings are somewhat meagre but if you want the prices to stay lower ...it'll have to do.|But a good deal overall.|_|This motel has risen like a PHOENIX out of the fire of a quite varied past. I hope it keeps flying!!!!|This was an original MICROTEL back in the 2000's....then went to a strange and poorly managed MONROE HEIGHTS....and now, fortunately for travelers, it has come under management which is reviving it and returning it back to the QUALITY INNS/CHOICE HOTELS standards.|As this was my first return since the MICROTEL days (and especially after two years of non-travel during COVID) this was a very pleasant surprise.|A warm and friendly welcome by a nice young man (Rubin...???SORRY for the incorrect spelling!!!!) and a lovely chat after a long drive.|The room (274) was well kept...(albeit a tad small....but not a problem). Bedding was comfortable and the washroom was neat and clean. NICE TO SEE the thoughtful modern upgrades of extra power outlets and ESPECIALLY USB PORTS on the light fixtures. This shows management is really thinking about today's travelers.||JUST TWO POINTS OF CONTENTION WHICH NEED TO BE ADDRESSED....AND FIXED...ASAP :|1) tell clients that the TV has some sort of LOADING situation called" SOURCE WIZARD" which must load ...and does not turn on immediately. VERY CONFUSING as I have never seen this before.|2) The HOT and COLD water pipe feed lines in the sink HAVE BEEN REVERSED.......so the COLD is on the LEFT...and HOT is on the RIGHT!!!!! VERY CONFUSING!!!!!!!|Also....apparently the drain stopper is SPRING LOADED rather than having a open/close rod behind the faucet. THIS NEEDS TO BE EXPLAINED TO CUSTOMERS!!!!!||But a pleasant surprise which I hope maintains its upkeep....and value. I will be back (the gods willing...) next winter...
