Booked this hotel sight unseen based on good reviews and the Wyndham name. MISTAKE! When we arrived we noticed signs "100% Non-Smoking" everywhere (but lighters for sale in lobby?) The moment we opened our room we were hit with the smell of stale smoke. Clearly the room had long been a smoking room as the smell permeated everything including upholstery. We immediately complained and were given a new room a few doors down. It was huge - even a king bed was dwarfed in it, but all the furniture was in bad shape. Lampshades were torn, office chair (only seating in the room) arms wrapped in black (electrical?) tape. Desk, nightstands and other furniture was chipped, especially at bottom corners. It was like all the random furniture that wasn't good enough for any out rooms was put here. Wi-Fi was really bad and cut out several times while trying to research other options for our stay. Calls would drop, too, inside the hotel.
The entire hotel was very shabby. When handed our key cards the front desk staff announced the room # out loud (a big no-no) and told us not to carry the key cards next to our phones, because cell phones deactivate them! The new key cards wouldn't open the replacement room and staff had to assist showing us the door handle must be all the way up or the card wouldn't be read to open the lock.
The website listed free breakfast. At check in the desk employee pointed to a corner of the lobby and said breakfast is there. The space housed a coffee pot, toaster and microwave and a rack for pastries and oatmeal packets. I don't think there was even a table.
We opted not to stay, but because we'd prepaid, had done on-line check-in AND had been there 42 minutes (yes 42 minutes was specifically cited) we were refused a refund. Most of that time spent getting a new room and then figuring out what to do next. Expedia via AARP intervened and eventually we were refunded one nights stay.
I think the hotel might have recently changed hands and the current owners were trying to upgrade, but at the moment it's really not worth it. Do yourself a favor, stay at the Wyndham Wingate quarter mile away. That's what we did, for $30 more it was a whole...

To start I’d like to mention how beautiful Pensilvania is, unfourntatly my stay at the super 8 was not so much.
Staying 2 days and 3 nights. Traveling from Canada to Mercer PA. On one of our nights at the hotel, my mother and I were resting in our room with the “ do not disturb sign”. After 11pm, we are awoken to a man and women standing in the room as we were sleeping. Woken very startled, I went down to the front desk to ask why a couple was standing in our room. Standing dumbfounded, the employees offered no apology or even the sincerest sign of remorse. All the manager could say is that the keys were mixed up and that I could stay else where, the employeee suggested another hotel down the street.
Absolutely stunned by the situation as someone had a room key that was not me or my mom, and the feeling of unsaftey I phoned the police. The police replied with that it was a busy weekend and they would be there in several hours.
Some of the most concerning parts of my stay was the resolution to the situation, only after I phoned the police was I invited to stay and reassured only if I used my deadbolt I could ensure no one would be in my room. Earlier in the travel I had misplaced my room key and requested another, one was issued with out ID. I had mentioned this to the manager as a resolution to improving service in the future and she replied that she recognized me that’s why another key was issued, I should also mention that I have sisters and cousins that look similar to me as well. Anyways if that is the case how did a man and women enter my room that did not look like me .... because they never checked for ID before handing out room keys. Meaning, anyone at anytime has access to your room - terrifying !!!
This resulting in my mother and I leaving the hotel after 12 in the morning, only with the option to find lodging and to travel late at night in an unfamiliar country.
Over all if I could rate...
Read moreMixed first impressions. The location is great if you’re going to the Grove City outlet mall. The hallway leading to the room on the second floor reeks of cigarette smoke. I absolutely hate the smell of cigarettes. The chemicals from cigarette smoke are in the fabrics and are passed to the people in that environment. I strongly believe that no hotel should be allowed to allow smoking anywhere in the facility.
With that being said, my room didn’t smell. The room and the rest of the decor of the hotel were definitely updated fairly recently. Our room was quite large with a lot of open space between the beds and the TV. It was quite nice.
One thing that would drive me nuts, if I were on the first floor, would be the sound of the stomping upstairs. The floors sounded thin and I feel bad for the people downstairs. I was constantly trying to avoid any making loud steps.
The bathroom was kind of small. There wasn’t much space for placing your own toiletries. The water pressure was acceptable.
After being here for a couple of hours, my eyes are burning, sort of like an irritation. It’s likely because of the cigarette smoke in the hallway.
Apparently they don’t keep ironing boards and irons in the rooms. I called the front desk and was told that as a confirmation. They did bring me one, which was nice of them. If you know you’ll need one, you will want to ask for it the night before.
The breakfast was basic and typical. They had thawed out frozen waffles, instant oatmeal, Frosted Flakes and Raisin Bran, apples, juice, coffee and some mini muffin cakes.
As we were out and about in the morning, the cigarette smoke was terrible. It made our clothes smell like it and our eyes...
